2009 Interior Decorating Trends

Here we go again. Everywhere I look, I see lists of the 2009 interior decorating trends. Yes, chocolate brown and pinks and blues are out…sooooo last year! This year it’s all about purples, plums, lilacs, silvers, grays, etc. So if you want to be current and up to date, you need to throw away everything from last year, and start from scratch!!

Ugh!

Am I the only one who gets so incredibly frustrated every January when these lists make it into every shelter magazine and online interior decorating site there is? It just infuriates me. Let’s face it…these lists are nothing more than a way for product designers and retailers to play on our insecurities and our desires to be current (and to continue to line their pockets with our hard-earned money). After all, what will Susy Homemaker next door say when she walks into my home and sees…*gasp*…blue and chocolate brown??? Oh my! She’ll undoubtedly talk about me to the neighbors and laugh behind my back! Oh, I can’t let that happen! Must…redecorate…my…home…NOW!!

Again…ugh!

In my humble but accurate opinion, what’s “in” for 2009 is whatever the heck makes you smile and feel relaxed whenever you walk through the door of your home. And that could be a thousand different things to a thousand different people. I, for one, am NOT a purple kind of person…no matter what shade it is, or what kind of flowery name you call it. Nope…you will never see purple in my home, even if it is the color for 2009.

Be inspired (and a little rebellious), and happy decorating,

I’m with you. I don’t think colors can ever go out of style, it just matters how you use them. If you love it, it’s IN! I can’t imagine myself ever giving in to decorating lists. I just do what I love!

Momovthree, I’m the same way. I wish these lists would go away forever.

And wouldn’t we all be so bored if we opened up every single shelter magazine throughout the year and all we saw were the “2009 decorating trends” being used? I think we’d all grow very tired of purple, gray and silver in a hurry.

As a student doing interior design I am wondering if you could help. I need to design a room using a theme or trend, form the last century. I would prefer something newer, with brite colors. If you have advise or ideas thank you!
