2010 HGTV Green Home

Have you seen this year’s HGTV Green Home? I really look forward to seeing these homes each year–the Dream Home and the Green Home. I always save the photos to my inspiration files because they’re always full of great ideas.

Wanna take a look? Here are just a portion of the photos of the house. If you want to see about a hundred more, plus virtual tours of each room, you can click here to go to HGTV’s Green Home 2010 page.

I admit, I’m not too crazy about the exterior. It just seems a bit plain.

But who doesn’t love a wraparound porch?! And those red chairs? FANTASTIC!

The living room. I really like the whimsical coffee table.

Another view of the living room.

The kitchen (obviously).

Do you see that red CaesarStone quartz countertop?
You know I love almost anything that’s not granite!!
But red?! Well, that’s just icing on the cake.

Sitting room with a stunning ceiling and wall treatment.

Another view of the sitting room.

Dining room. It seems a bit plain to me. I definitely would
have added some fabric to those windows.

I’m pretty sure this is the nicest laundry room I’ve ever seen.

The hallway with its very unique demilune table. I like how the table
is attached to the wall, and doesn’t have legs. Unique indeed!

The hallway bathroom. I really like the use of such a bold
color in a small room. A very daring choice.

The kids bedroom. And if you’ve seen the plan for my kitchen/eating area,
then you know I love these colors!

Another view of the kids bedroom.

The kids bathroom. I like it, but it just seems to be missing
something–almost like it’s not finished. Any ideas?

I really love this view of the kids bathroom. Those big
chunky shelves are a perfect touch.

The master bedroom. The fabric on the chairs is fantastic!

And another view of the master bedroom.

Aannnddd…yet another view. Do you see those pendant
lights? Interesting, huh? What do you think?

Now I could spend hours in this master bathroom. It’s just
so peaceful and serene.

And just yesterday, I suggested to a client that she paint her
master bathroom vanity blue. Then I came home and found these
pictures. I was pretty excited to see that.

On thing I DON’T like about this bathroom is the layout. It appears from the pictures that in the photo directly above, the photographer is standing in the doorway to the separate little water closet. However, the entrance to the bathroom from the master bedroom is on the other side of the shower. That means you have to enter the bathroom, walk around the shower and the tub, just to get to the toilet. That may be fine most of the time, but think about if you were to wake up in the middle of the night to do your business, half asleep and groggy. I don’t know…it just seems like very poor planning in my opinion. Anywhooo…

The last room in the “tower”. Oh, what I would do to have
an office like this!! It reminds me of the incredible office
of Maryam of My Marrakesh. They styles are completely
different, but she, too, has a “tower” office with a spectacular
view. On second thought, I’d probably get nothing done in an
office like that. I’d just stare off into the distance and
daydream all day.

So, what did you think? Any ideas you would consider incorporating into your own home?

Aww! Thanks for posting the pics! I tend to like the HGTV green home better than the HGTV dream home. It seems more down to earth and practical. Lisa

Lisa, I'm agree with you! The Green Home is generally my favorite, too.

Shaleza, I wondered the same thing about the casters. It seemed a bit odd to me.

Each corner is designed to perfection…there is this concept of simplicity and elegance.Green homes are very good and healthy concept for the members in the home and the outside world as well.

The one bathroom with the pedestal sink and window above it is not practical for a kids bathroom. If you want to wash your face, you always like to look in a mirror…just seems weird to me. I love the way they incorporated some fun furniture and lighting throughout the rooms. The other bathroom has high ceilings and they stopped the decorating in the middle of the walls. I agree with you that the outside could have more color. Fun pictures to look at though

Susan, I think they list their sources on the HGTV website under the Green Home section. You'll have to wade through a ton of info to find it, but it should be there.

Maybe I'm just overlooking something. All I can find about them is that they are handmade and hand-painted by artisans in Mexico.:(

Susan, you're right. I looked as well, and that's all I found. I suppose those were custom made for the house. Sorry. :(
