Bathroom Design Style–Traditional Or Modern?

by Conor Tomkins, Click Bathrooms

If you are currently in the process of remodelling your bathroom you will have to make an extremely difficult decision, Modern or Traditional?

This decision shouldn’t be made lightly, both modern and traditional bathroom styles can be made to look absolutely stunning so you don’t want to rush into it and wish you went the other way. There are many factors to take into consideration when choosing your style, personal taste, how the rest of your house is decorated and the space you have.

If you are one of those people that struggle with the amount of space in their bathrooms then I would stay away from the traditional style. Traditional Bathroom styles usually offer extremely extravagant and space consuming features such as roll top / freestanding baths. Obviously, a freestanding bath is going to take up a lot of room.

So if you are looking for something that is a little more space saving, you may want to go for a contemporary styled bathroom. Walk in shower enclosures are a common addition to any contemporary styled bathroom, mainly because they are frameless and have a sleek and chic appearance, but also because they are brilliant at saving space. A lot of people think that if you have a small bathroom then you will struggle to fit any type of bathroom furniture, this is no longer the case. Modern bathroom furniture is available in cloakroom ranges; although this furniture is smaller it still retains all the functionality and the chic style of standard sized bathroom furniture.

It seems like the more adventure type enjoy experimenting with contemporary style, many variations of colour and style can be used in a modern bathroom, giving you the opportunity to be creative and put a little bit of your personality into your own home, whether that is with a colourful feature wall or decorative tile design.

Traditional styles are for the more reserved and people who like to play it safe, don’t get me wrong traditional bathrooms can still looking stunning but don’t provide the impact of a modern style. Traditional bathrooms often feature more subtle and neutral colours such as creams and whites, allowing them to easily fit in with the style of the rest of your home.

To achieve a good bathroom style, you need to concentrate on the little things, such as faucets, taps and fittings, get these wrong and it could ruin the entire feel of your bathroom. Modern and Traditional bathroom taps are all finished in chrome to give them a high quality finish but that’s where the similarities end, modern taps feature striking shapes and edges whilst traditional taps offer flowing elegant designs which are insured by furniture from the Victorian era.

So before you make the decision between modern and traditional, you really need to think about your situation, the rest of your home and what you want to use your bathroom for. Making the wrong choice could cost you a lot of money to change in the future.
