Color Scheme--What Color(s) Do I Use With Black and White Bedding?

by Gina
(Franklin, TN US)

I just bought a black and white/cream toile comforter set and it's very classy and beautiful. The only problem is I don't know what to do with the rest of the room for curtains, a rug, and sheets. I can't decide if I should use pinks and oranges, aqua blue and light greens, and or mix all those colors together. Please help!! I'm not very creative!!

Answer:

I absolutely love your bedding! There are so many possibilities.

My preference with bold black and white graphic patterns is to use one other accent color, and stick with that strict color palette. That way, it keeps the bold black and white bedding as the main focal point. If you add too many colors, the room will begin to look busy, and the bedding will lose its impact.

The color that you use completely depends on what color you enjoy. But, for example, if you really like pink, then you could paint your walls a soft shade of pink. Then you could find some black fabric for window treatments and add a three-inch band of pink fabric on the leading edge of each drapery panel. Another idea is to add a band of pink fabric on the bottom (or top) of the draperies.

Then continue to bring in pink throughout the room. A pink pillow on the bed, a pink throw, a small bouquet of pink peonies on the nightstand, etc.

If you're not sure that you would enjoy that much pink, then choose a color that you really enjoy. It could be almost anything...red, green, aqua, robin's egg blue...really, almost anything. And also feel free to vary the SHADES of the color you choose. You could use a soft pink on the walls, a darker pink pillow, a medium pink for the accent on window treatments, etc.

Happy decorating!

by: Anonymous

i LOVE this bedding, i have the same one, and i am currently redoing my room in black white and purple. my walls are purple, and my sheets are purple, my funritnure is all white, and i have done the same thing with accenting by using balck and white pictures. The only problem i have now is a carpet color.... i can either do it in an all purple rug or custom black and white wide stripes. im afraid if i do the purple i will ahve too much purple with the carpet and the walls, and im afraid ill have too many patterns going on if i use black and white stripes... Help!!! any suggestions?!

Pictures I used

I took a couple black and white photography clases in high school, so I framed some of those, and then I just went to local flea markets or searched around online for some Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn black and white photographs. You can find them almost anywhere.

What I did
by: Anonymous

I've got the same sort of bedding and I chose to paint my walls a sort of olive/hunter green, and my main colors are white, black, olive/hunter green, and tan. It all looks extremely classy and elegant, and I accented the walls by putting black and white photos around.

consider a duvet to save money
by: Anonymous

i went to bellahomefashions.com and got a very similiar king size duvet cover and shams for $60. I got a black dust ruffle for like $12 at walmart and hot pink sheets to go with on ebay. The pink looks great with the black and cream bedding. also got a hot pink chandalier throw pillow and white/black lamp with fleur de lis pattern at target.com. A duvet cover is an inexpensive way to redo a room , and it's great if you love your old comforter but know that it's seen better days! P.S. Here's a tip: never shop online without first googling coupon codes for website you're buying from. You save alot of money that way, anywhere from percentages off to free shipping.

i love this bedding

I am a fourteen year old girl and I love this bedding. I'm looking for something just like it. I'm redoing my room and I'm using the colors black, white, and red. I plan on painting two of my walls red, although, the red wont show all that much because I'm putting large black and white photos all over the walls in black wood frames and my other two walls will be black but my closet is white as well as my windows so it wont be all that much black either. all of my furniture is white but I dont know if the walls will be too much. I know I have to pick a deep red and not a "stripper red" (as my mother calls it) but let me know if you have any suggestions.

The bedding is available again on several web sites. I also have been able to find it at Dillards. It must be a seasonal thing or they have had a lot of requests for it and have brought it back.

The black and white comforter that you are asking about on "Addicted 2 Decorating" is made by Rose Tree and it is their Symphony collection. It has been put on coloseout and I can't find it anywhere. Dillard's was the store in Knoxville, Tn that sold it but they closed it out a few months ago.

Go to Target!
by: Anonymous

My daughter just bought something similar from Target. It has the same design on the comforter. However, the bedskirt is white with 1 row of black dots on the bottom. It's really cute and soft. It comes in a black and white tote bag that matches the bed and it comes with 2 pillow covers and the bedskirt. It was $59.99 for a queen set. Everything is accented with a little hot pink band going around the edges. Not too noticeable but very cute.
