Cottage Style Board and Batten Hallway On A Budget

Tricia at Simplicy In The South recently gave her hallway a makeover, taking it from a rather neglected 1980s look to a very light a bright cottage style hallway with board and batten walls.

Tricia added some cottage charm and character with gallery shelves, wainscoting, new lighting and oil rubbed bronze door hardware. She stayed on budget by using one sheet of MDF to make the boards and stiles for the board and batten treatment, and added texture to the walls above the board and batten using grasscloth. She and her husband built a set of picture ledges using pine boards, crown moulding, and a strip of lattice wood for the front ledge.  She also built a new decorative air return vent cover.

Tricia actually did the entire project herself, other than having her husband rip down the MDF sheet and help with the shelves so that she could take pictures.  (See there, ladies?  You can pick up those power tools and get things done!!)

  2. The makeover really seems to have brightened up the space! I love the high shelving and wall paneling. I think it makes the biggest difference!

  3. Trying to finish a vintage style area right now, still trying to locate a bright red table
