DIY – Painted Glass Bottles With Polymer Clay Flowers
Well, looky here! I finally got my painted bottle project finished. 🙂 As you know from yesterday, my first attempt was a big ‘ole fat FAIL. But I tried again…this time with spray primer first…and it worked out beautifully.
After I painted them, I wanted to do some sort of something on them to make them look old…or textured…or both. So I ended up using white spray paint to lightly mist the bottles, and then I followed that with a light splatter effect.
It almost gives the look of stone, and it also gives the bottles a beautiful texture. There’s no way to fully capture the texture on camera, but I’ve left this next picture in full size (sorry to those of you on dial-up and other slow connections!!) so that you can click on the picture and zoom in to see a close up of the texture. It’s one of my favorite techniques to use to antique metals…although I generally don’t use white paint to antique metals. So doing this with white paint was a first for me, but I really like the effect.
And as you can see, I also added little polymer clay flowers to the bottles. I made this using the same method I used for the polymer clay flower artwork, but this time I made the three different sizes of flowers and then layered them on top of each other to create a much fuller flower. Then I gave each flower a light paint wash in the bottle color, followed by spray paint mist/splatter technique.
I love how my little bottles turned out. I’ve been holding on to them for years, waiting for inspiration to hit, so when I saw Shannon’s beautiful painted bottle, that was the inspiration I needed. It just took me a little longer to get to the finish line than it took her (with my initial DIY fail), and I added my own twist to it. 🙂

Craft WIN! Those are so super cute, LOVE the textured look. It has so much depth. And the flowers are super darling. I have never tried using clay. It looks fun 🙂
Pretty ~ Pretty !!!!
Love those bottles!
I really don’t understand how glass can look so much like stone. You definitely knew what you were doing here. It’s awesome. I loved it and will try it only if I had some pretty glass bottles. Pop over and see me sometime.
Well now, you made lemonade with lemons. The bottles look sooooo cool! Nice job!
Those are adorable!!!
Love the way these turned out!!
My first thought was…how did she attached those cute flowers? And I had to wait until the very last sentence to find out you hot glued them on! LOL!
All I can say is you are the master
Second attempt is awesome! And cool knowing how you got that textured-stone-feeling. I had to scroll back up to figure out those bottles had perfect places already there waiting for your flowers. If I hadn’t seen the whole thing I’d have guessed those were part of the original bottles.
What a great look …. so glad to see that the primer worked for you and that you kept at it 🙂 Great flowers too! really added to the look.
Hugs,
Bj
These are so cute! Good to know I am not the only one that keeps random bottles (and other stuff) that I am not exactly sure how to use…but know one day I will fin the perfect inspiration to make them something special!
They look awesome!! I’m going to remember the white spray paint 🙂
Your bottles turned out awesome!!! 🙂
It’s a good thing that you didn’t let the botched first attempt stop you because these turned out really stonking! Great job you have done here.
These are gorgeous!! I want to try this project with my daughter. She starts kindergarten in the fall and loves making things! I’ll be sure to come back here and have a second look at yours for inspiration 🙂 Great job!
