Jute-Wrapped Jar Vase

Do you like jute? Or hemp? I do. I love how these materials can add such a natural warmth to a project and to a room.

Well, if you like it too, I have the absolute easiest project EVER for you.

I needed some natural, warm accessories for J & A’s bedroom, and I needed them to be super-cheap. Well, it doesn’t get much cheaper than this.

Matt and I love salsa, and this is the kind I buy.

But here’s a glimpse into my crazy mind. I don’t buy this brand because I just really enjoy the flavor. I buy it because I love the jars it comes in. 🙂 Yep, I buy my food based on the shape and usefulness of the containers. Okay, not all of it, but some. And unfortunately, I’m NOT joking. :~D

So here’s what I did…I took just a couple of supplies, including jute (or you can use hemp), and my new favorite super-sticky adhesive…

I placed a strip of the adhesive on the jar, starting at the bottom edge, and ending about 2/3 of the way up.

And then I placed a strip of adhesive going around the bottom edge of the jar.

I trimmed the end of the jute so that I had a nice, neat end that wasn’t frayed. (Oh, and this is a “do as I say and not what I do” moment. Do NOT lay your jar on the table like that after you’ve removed the protective paper from the adhesive.) 🙂

And starting along the bottom edge of the jar, I started wrapping the jute, being sure that it was right up to the edge of the adhesive.

And after wrapping, and wrapping, and wrapping some more, I ended the jute at the very top of the vertical adhesive strip, and trimmed the excess jute.

And voila!

A cute little jute-wrapped jar that took all of about three minutes to make. Now it’s ready to be used as a vase for greenery or some pretty flowers, or even a candle.

So don’t throw away those great jars! There are so many things you can do with them.

By the way, I’m sure this is obvious, but you can wrap the jar as much or as little as you want. I actually decided (upon Matt’s suggestion) to wrap the jar all the way to the top.

This works great since I think I’ll be using these as vases. If I were going to use them as candle holders, I would have kept some of the glass showing.
