Easy DIY Headboard From Recycled Shutters & Door
Are you familiar with Fluff Your Stuff? If not, you should be! It is an interior design company located in Omaha, Nebraska. But I don’t live in Nebraska, you say. Regardless, you should at least check out their Facebook page for amazing ideas, tips, and tricks. They’re not stingy at all with their ideas and inspiration, and I love that!
Lorrie, the president of Fluff Your Stuff, sent over an easy headboard idea that I wanted to share with you.
If the bed is the focal point of the bedroom, then it just stands to reason that you need a headboard, right? But if you don’t have the money for some fancy schmancy headboard, and don’t have the time to make an elaborate diamond tufted headboard, and just want something quick, simple, and inexpensive, this is a fantastic idea.
Isn’t that a cute bedroom? It’s perfect for a young lady! (Or not so young. Heck, I’m continually drawn to colors and whimsical accents that are usually labeled for “children”.)
But what a simple idea for a headboard, right? And yet, it has such great impact in the room. And what a great way to recycle items! These things could easily be found at places like ReStore, if you don’t already have them tucked away in your garage. In fact, Lorrie said that the door was from her first house and has been a chalkboard and bulletin board in other incarnations before becoming a headboard.
The rest of the room is equally as fun and vibrant.
If you want more info on how to make this headboard, there are some great instructions over on the Habitat For Humanity website, although I’m pretty sure you could figure out how to do this without instructions. But just in case you’re feeling timid, the instructions are available.
And if you’d like more great low-cost decorating ideas like this, be sure to check out Fluff Your Stuff, and be sure to “like” their Facebook page!! I find myself being continually inspired by their projects.
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
Wow, Its so nice my friends,, I love a much the decorations.. But I am not so jealous coz I am decorating my bed like that yesterday, ehheheheh…

Love this idea! Do you think it's too feminine for a boys room — painted different colors, of course. My son's room is brown, orange and navy. Could I do something like this in those colors?
I don't think this is too feminine for a boy's room! There's nothing inherently feminine about a door, and there's nothing inherently feminine about a shutter. The only thing that would make it either feminine or masculine is the color (or colors).
That looks great. I especially love the bright colors!

WOW, thanks for turning me on to these gals…. I liked them on FB. I love this headboard idea. I have some shutters but they are from a 200 yr old farmhouse tho and WAY too big unless I used them horizontally. HMMMMMMMMM
Goes to show with enough creativity you can truly make anything beautiful. Awesome idea to use the shutter doors as a headboard. Awesome post.
This is a great idea. I love to recycle, and finding an old door and some shutters is easy. A little sanding, some painting, and I'm done!
Oh, I love the idea of a headboard-it is really simple and cute) thanks for the inspiration)))
