Free & Easy Paint Chip Artwork

I’ve abandoned the whole “pet artwork” idea for above the pet station.  After seeing the custom pet watercolor portraits by Rachelle Levingston, my little computer “artwork” just wasn’t cutting it.  And since there’s no way I can spend $900 on pet portraits, I needed to come up with something else.

My grand idea?  Paint chip artwork.  It was easy, it was free, and best of all, it’s done.

Even though it was something that a kindergartener could do, I quite like how they turned out.  They’re colorful (which I obviously love), and graphic against the white background.

I used a total of 16 paint chip cards from the original Behr paint (at Home Depot).  These are the cards that have three or four colors per card.  I also picked up one the cute little leaf-shaped paint chips from the new(ish) line of paint—the Behr Premium Plus Ultra.  (I’m calling it a leaf shape, but I really have no idea what it’s supposed to be.  Obviously I used it as a flower petal.)

The leaf-shaped paint chip was too big for my project, so I trimmed off about 1/2” on each side, doing my best to maintain the shape, and then used that as a template to cut out the rest of the leaves (which I used as petals).

After cutting out 12 petals for each flower, I glued them to a piece of cardstock with a glue stick, and popped them into four frames that I’ve had for years, and that was it!  Free, easy, and done.

I love being able to cross things off my “to do” list.  One down, 9274 to go.

  7. This is fantabulous! I have paint chips sitting in mounds because I participated in many consumer projects hosted by major supply companies of paint. I never wanted to just toss them. So this is a wonderful Idea. Now I know who is getting what for gifts this year. Thanks

  8. Hi! I love what you’ve done with the paint chips. The flowers are so pretty. Could you please tell me the finished size of the flower and the frame size you used. Also, do the paint colors show on the flowers or did you use other paint swatches to trace and cut? Thanks in advance for your help.
