Gwen’s Bedroom:: Draperies (finally!)

I finally finished…and installed…Gwen’s draperies yesterday. I’m so pleased with how they turned out. The fabric that we selected is absolutely gorgeous–probably one of my favorites I’ve ever worked with. I love the subtle pattern. Take a look…

(that little table is going to be replaced with something else
…still looking for the perfect something)
(that little nightstand is getting a makeover
as well…hopefully soon)

This was my first time to make this particular type of draperies with the tabs on the back that take the place of drapery rings.

I really like the clean look of this style, but it wouldn’t work for draperies that are actually operational. But of course, these are stationary and serve a decorative purpose only.

I also got the decorative shower curtain finished and installed. However, unlike the bedroom draperies, the shower curtain was NOT behaving well. So a little discipline was in order.

Hopefully in a couple of days, it’ll decide to play nicely and I’ll get to show it to you.

I still have many little (but important) finishing touches to do in Gwen’s bedroom and bathroom. I’m hoping that in the next week or so, I’ll have it all finished up, and can show you the final “before” and “after”.

But for today, I need to head back to John and Alice’s house to finish up the board and batten walls in the master bedroom. Have a great day!!

  1. Loving the drapes, very sophisticated…and what my eye is really noticing are the mini chandeliers hung as the lighting for the nightstands!! LOVE! Janell

  2. Thank you, Janell! I've wanted to use chandeliers like that for so long, and have suggested it to several clients, but Gwen is the first one to ever say yes to the idea. I'm so glad she did…and she is too!!! I absolutely love those little chandeliers.

  3. I've been reading your blog for some time, but this is my first time commenting 🙂 I love your work, you are so talented. I'm very impressed with how the room is coming together. Any chance you might post instructions on how to make that tufted headboard? It is absolutely amazing!

  4. Love the way the hidden tab panels turned out! And you actually can do that style for functional drapes. The tabs just have to be made a little wider and longer to give them a little room to slide along the rod. I have six of them in my sunroom, 4 of which is made myself, and I open and close them all the time 🙂

  5. Amanda, I will definitely post directions!! I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out with these rooms that I'm doing "hands on". I think when I start doing 14-day rooms exclusively, it'll run a lot smoother. My plan is to have all of the DIY guides finished for the projects in a room by the time I finish the room so that when I post the final "before and after", I can also post links to all of the DIYs for the projects in the room. I hope that makes sense!!

Okay, that was the very long way of saying…

    It's coming. 😀

  6. Jennae, come to think of it, I used to have some as well. I didn't make them. I purchased them from Pier 1. But how do you keep them "orderly" at the top? That's what I had trouble with on these. Anytime I would move the drapery panel on the rod, the header would look all messed up, so I'd have to climb on the ladder and straighten it.

  7. I can't believe how talented you are at EVERYTHING… you have given me such inspiration to start doing more on my own. :o)
