Here It Is…My Brilliant Idea

As I told you yesterday on the Addicted 2 Decorating Facebook Page, I’ve had a brilliant idea! But first, let me explain the dilemma I had.

As you know, I’ve built a banquette seat in my eating area.

I wanted to do an upholstered cushion for the seat, and then a diamond-tufted back to give it some pizazz. Then along comes my mom who reminds me that a bit of practicality is in order. She says that having fabric that close to my stove may not be the best idea because it could get really dirty…really quickly. So she suggested that I look for a vinyl that may work.

I really wanted a contrasting color, but after days of nonstop searching (okay, actually I spent 30 minutes at JoAnn Fabrics), I didn’t find any vinyl in a contrast color that would work. So I ended up with this:

Yep, just plain ‘ole white vinyl. Nothing special about it. I was disappointed, but I convinced myself that there was no other option, so I’d just have to rely on my gorgeous diamond-tufting to give visual interest. But still…white vinyl on white tile? To get an idea of what that might look like, I found a white diamond-tufted headboard online and placed it on my photo. Blah…

So then I thought that I could add some interest by adding a touch of color on the buttons and cording around the seat cushion.

Which might end up looking something like this…

It’s a little more interesting, but still, it’s white against white.

Then yesterday while I was having lunch with my mom as we do every Wednesday, she I came up with this fabulous idea! What if I build a wood border around the tufted back that is painted the cabinet color?! It would look something like this:

I love it! Of course, the color will match the cabinet color exactly, and my tufting will be more…umm…precise. (I can’t believe someone would sell a headboard with such sloppy tufting!) But anyway, you can get the idea.

I never cease to amaze myself with my brilliant ideas!

Oh…alright, alright…so maybe this wasn’t my idea. :~D

Even so, don’t you think a loving and caring mother should let me take all the credit?! But nooooooo…when I told her I would take all the credit myself and not mention that it was her idea, she snatched her drawing out of my hand, signed her name to it, and put a copyright symbol on it. lol…

Yep, that’s my mom for ya. She’s a hoot, and she keeps me laughing. She did assure me, however, that she would give me a copyright release to use the drawing on my blog. :~D

I haven’t done the paperwork yet, but I’m hoping she’ll cut me some slack since I am her daughter. 🙂

Now I’m excited about my upholstered seat again. Thanks, Mom, for the great idea!

  3. You two are so cute! Blue and white will look great, but maybe with a less traditional profile…? Loved your post.

  4. Azra, my mom and I were just talking about that. I just used the first white tufted headboard I could find online, but it's definitely too…well…just too much for this space.

I'm working on some different ideas right now. I'm still not sure exactly what it'll end up looking like, but certainly not so traditional.

  5. Following traditional design is very good because you still culture what our generation have.Continue to create more design like that so that it will last long.
