Inspiring Design:: Brian Dittmar Design
This week’s inspiring designs come from San Francisco designer Brian Dittmar. Brian has appeared on HGTV, and his work has been featured in several publications. His talents also extend to graphic design.
Here is a sampling of some of Brian’s beautiful work…
That tile backsplash is a real showstopper!
What a beautiful, serene, relaxing bedroom! The headboard is stunning.
A beautiful traditional room. Doesn’t it look inviting?
Another room where the tile takes center stage.
Simply stunning. I absolutely love that bed with the tufted headboard!
There’s plenty more to see on the Brian Dittmar Design website.
So what do you think? Do one of those rooms inspire you? I wish I had a much bigger house, because I see many ideas I’d love to incorporate into my home, including a bathroom with a wall of gorgeous mosaic tile!
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
I love the wall color in the first bedroom photo. Almost the same color I'm using in part of my home.
The tile work in the kitchen and bathroom is so striking!!!

Hi,
this is not very related to this post, but as a long-time lover of your blog I have a burning question to ask 🙂
I love your kitchen cabinets, and you mentioned the other day that you use Zinsser oil-based primer, but what kind of paint do you use? I am getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets as well (white top cabinets, black bottom cabinets) and I'm nervous about chipping.
Supposedly a good primer makes all the difference, but I primed a dresser (with Kilz) before painting (with Behr latex Satin), and it chips every time I open and close the drawers 🙁
Please help!
Hi Krystal~
When I painted my kitchen cabinets, I did so before I learned about the wonderful, magical qualities of oil-based primer. 🙂 So I spent hours and hours sanding, then used latex Kilz.
Anyway, you asked about paint. I'm very partial to Kelly Moore interior oil-based paint in a satin finish. Not all of their colors are available in a satin finish, so I just use the lowest sheen available in the color I want. I generally choose Behr colors (Kelly Moore doesn't have a very good color selection), and have them color match in their paint.
If I were to do my cabinets over, I'd definitely start off with an oil-based primer (Zinsser cover stain, tinted the same color as my paint), and follow up with Kelly Moore interior oil-based paint. I also add paint conditioner to my paints–Floetrol for latex paint, and Penetrol for oil-based paints. You can get this at Home Depot and most paint stores. I use it according to the directions.
Those tiles in the kitchen are so beautiful!!
Oh yah, Kristi, I know you've been having trouble with video tutorials, but I'm still curious how you manage to paint with oil pants and not end up with tons of brush lines in the paint. 🙂 I ended up doing a coat, sanding it down to flat, doing another coat, sanding, etc. but I was never able to get all of the lines out. (Probably because I should be replacing my sandpaper in my orbital sander more often? I don't know, I'm just totally wingin' it!)
Hi Krystal,
I'm enjoying your blog and you're an inspiration…all the content! In my personal decorating I tend toward darker colors, but in my next life I might opt for the serenity of these photos. Fortunately I'm in the redesign business, so I get to have fun with my clients interiors. I just started a blog (taking a class) if you get the chance check it out. Thanks http://magicalmakeoverinteriors.wordpress.com/ not sure how to give you a button yet. 🙂
