J & A Master Bedroom:: The Finished Dresser!!

First, a disclaimer. The dresser turned out beautifully, and the flooring is gorgeous. Unfortunately, these photos are not.

Just when you thought my photos couldn’t get any worse, I went and dropped my camera. And when I do something, I do it up right.

The flooring guys had taken up all of the nice, cushy carpet, and only bare concrete was left. My camera first slammed onto the brick hearth of the fireplace, and then landed on the edge of the lens on the concrete. I thought that I had salvaged the camera, but ever since then, the pictures have been very grainy and washed out. I noticed it in the pictures of Gwen’s finished bathroom, but I just wrote it off to my poor picture-taking skills. But now with these pictures, there’s no denying that there’s a problem with the camera.

Anywho, I promise, I’ll purchase a new camera very soon, and gorgeous, colorful, beautifully-captured photos will be forthcoming. Yes, that’s right…I’ve already decided that I’m going to try something different with my new camera and actually read the owner’s manual and learn how to use the thing. 🙂

Until then, you’re stuck with these. So let’s get to it!

Here’s the dresser in its “before” state:

And here’s the “after”…documented in about 500 grainy and washed out pictures. 🙂

Do you remember that I had to order an entire additional double roll of wallpaper to finish up a tiny corner of the room? Well naturally, I had well over half of the double roll left, so I decided to put it to good use as drawer liners.

Isn’t that pretty? A nice little surprise when the drawers are opened.

Now I know you’ve caught glimpses of the new flooring in the photos above, but let me show you the drastic before and after difference.

The room started out with carpet that was a pinkish beige color.

And now…TADAAAA!!

And how do you like those gold chairs? Those were my fabulous Goodwill find a few days ago, and let me tell you…they stink to high heaven!! They have that 30-year-old musty cigarette smoke smell. Yeah…they’ll need some attention…SOON!

Anyway, back to the flooring. (And remember, these doors to the bathroom will eventually be black, as well all of the interior doors.)

But isn’t that flooring gorgeous!!?? It’s hard to believe that vinyl can be so pretty. This flooring is Mannington Adura vinyl plank flooring in Heirloom Cherry. It looks every bit as gorgeous as any laminate flooring I’ve seen, and it could even rival many real wood floors I’ve seen.

When I get my new fancy camera, I’ll take better pictures. I just know that some of you will want to know more about this product, and will want to be able to see better pictures. I love that it can be used anywhere–including bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms, where laminates and real wood floors aren’t practical. It’s also very durable, and the best thing is that it’s QUIET when you walk on it!!!

The room is coming along. On the agenda for today: headboard!

Have a great day!

  5. GORG! Can't wait to see the door black too! Are you leaving the trim around it white? I'm seriously thinking about doing this too, but haven't mustered up the courage. yet…

  6. We got a very similar floor product for our downstairs bathroom, and it was a breeze to install and it looks fantastic!

  7. Wow, you did a great job on the dresser. Way to go!

OH! and how about that floor? It's perfect.

  8. I've read your tutorial about painting furniture and I'm totally on board with using oil paint (hey, I've used it for actual paintings–how much harder could furniture be?).

Can you recommend a particular brand? Or can you tell me a brand to avoid?

  9. Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame

on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!

  10. I can see that you are an expert at your field! I am launching a website soon, and your

information will be very useful for me.. Thanks for all your help and wishing you all the

    success.

  11. Can you tell me what color of Adura Heirloom Cherry this floor is? Is it the Savannah or Olde Town color? Thanks, it's beautiful!

  12. Wow, you did a great job on the dresser. Way to go!

OH! and how about that floor? It's perfect.

  13. I’m curious how you like your vinyl plank flooring after 21 months? I had some in my old home and had mixed feelings about the durability. (It was in a very open room where light poured in across the floor and seemed to reveal every doggie toenail scuff. Also, I didn’t like that when it got small nicks (as any vinyl floor does as the years go on), the nicks didn’t seem to be as easy to conceal as in a laminate wood floor). Despite those issues the price and inital look is amazing, so I would still consider getting it again, but perhaps not in as dark or uniform a color as my old floors.

  14. Love the new look of the dresser. Did you brush or spray paint this dresser and with what brand and kind of paint?

  15. I’m heart-sick about your camera. I hope you can get it fixed. I LOVE the dresser makeover, especially the wallpaper lining. I just found a beautiful white wicker dresser at a thrift store for $20 and am in the process of refinishing it. I wanted to do something to the interior of the drawers, and wallpaper is the perfect solution! Thank you!

  16. Hi! I’m about to re-do a dresser and couldn’t find instructions on how to do this … any advice? I’ve done a few before so I’m not a complete novice, but I’m not sold on chalk paint as I always do before and after work, it really isn’t “paint and go” and the dry time is just horrible. Anyways, could you share what brands of primer/paint you normally use?
