Make It Happen Monday:: The Checklist

Well, hello strangers! I kind of pulled a little disappearing act last week. I was up to my eyeballs in yards and yards of fabric and drapery lining, making some draperies (sadly) not for my home, but for someone else’s home. I shared a photo of the draperies over on the A2D Facebook page, and I’ll have a tutorial coming up this week.

After working really long hours for four days straight, I finally installed the draperies on Friday morning. Then I came home and took a four-hour nap. 🙂 And because Friday was our ten-year wedding anniversary, and because I had worked such long hours every day for two weeks, Matt encouraged me to take the weekend off. Completely. And let me tell you, I didn’t require much convincing. Ha!

So here it is, Monday morning, and I’m rested and ready to take on this condo again!

Here’s the deal. I’m probably as tired of talking about my little kitchen and breakfast room as you are of hearing about it, so I’ve decided I need a checklist, I need to get crackin’ on that list, and I need to get.it.finished so that I can move on to something else. Seriously, I’ve dragged this out long enough! And I’m so close to being done, but all of those small details — those finishing touches — just get me. So here it is, the master punch list for completion of my kitchen and breakfast room…

See what I mean? It doesn’t seem possible that I still have that much to do, but it’s all of the finishing touches. Uuggghh. But it’s time to get them done, and move on. I’m so tired of talking about my kitchen and breakfast room!

So how are your projects coming along? Did you make any progress last week? Have you been making any checklists lately so you can stay focused on the finish line? Tell me about it! And don’t forget, if you’ve written a post about the progress of your project, feel free to leave a link in the comments below!

  1. If I were you, I would breakdown the items even more: for example, separate prime and paint the pantry doors as two entries. You’ll feel a lot better when you can cross off items. It helps me a lot and I feel I have accomplished something even if the project isn’t completed.

  2. I have so many unfinished projects as well…I really need to do a checklist as well and stick to it…But, I did pull out a painting I started a year ago and my goal is to finish it this week…I’d say I’m off to a good start and so are you!!!

  3. I just love hearing you talk about how you’re rested and ready to go now! I’m feeling exhausted today, so this gives me a little hope that I’ll get through to the other side once again! Thanks for sharing, Kristi!

  4. Well…hmm. Today, September 24, I took down my 4th of July wreath that was hanging on my front door AND I made a fall wreath. Not to worry though, my front door is hidden from most people since I live in a bottom floor condo that requires me to follow the sidewalk around the back of the building.

    Man, I’m lazy.

  5. I get so inspired by looking at other blogs (like yours) that here is what I finally did and so far it is working. First I started my own blog (you’re already there). Initially I started with posting already completed projects. Then I went ahead and typed up the content for some of my unfinished projects and just put a PHOTO place holder in. I’ve set them up as drafts but with the completed blogs already scheduled , I can see approximately how much time I have left before I need more content. I have several drafts sitting in the queue so I can pick one to complete the pictures (and finish the final touches obviously) based on my energy level and amount of time to dedicate to it. For example, I had already painted and hung my chandelier, and realized it wasn’t complete about a month ago. So I went ahead and wrote up the blog and put in the place holder PHOTO for the final product. Then one day I said, that will only take me an hour to complete, so I did it that evening just to finalize the blog post. I just had to put the photo in and tweak the content slightly and it gave me such a sense of accomplishment. I already have the content for my plans for the dining room chandelier ready to go, so it really motivates me to get moving on that project now. It is already in my queue. It is like making a list but going ahead and writing about it get that procrastination point out of the way too. It feels like I am telling someone about something and then I can’t wait to show them.
