Miniature Pumpkin Topiaries

Do you know what I love about decorating?  There are so many different types of projects that can be done!  If I’m in the mood to sew, I can make window treatments, table runners, pillows, bedding.  If I’m in the mood to use power tools, I can build some shelves for my office.  If I want to paint, there are plenty of surfaces in my little condo that could use a fresh coat of paint.  If I want to tackle a really big job, I can reupholster something.

Do you know what I mean?  I love the variety.  And lately, I’ve been in a crafting mood.  I just want to sit down with my hot glue gun and Mod Podge and craft a bunch of small random little stuff.  So last night, I whipped up some cute little miniature pumpkin topiaries.

Aren’t those cute?!  The droopy one on the left is my favorite.  It’s about 8” tall.  The one on the right is about 10” tall.

As I was strolling through Michael’s the other day, I saw the bag of mini pumpkins on sale for 50% off, which made them $4.98 (I think there were six in the bag).  Then when I was in Hobby Lobby, I saw the little unfinished wood circles were 30% off.  They regular price was already incredibly cheap…50 cents each, I think.  I already had the unfinished wood candle cups from a previous project.  And I’ve always got spray primer in my stash.

So using my trusty hot glue gun, I just started stacking…

I wanted them different heights, so I used one candle cup for one topiary, and two candle cups for the other.  Then I glued on the pumpkins.

Seriously, this droopy one makes me smile.

After they were assembled, I gave them a coat of spray primer…

And when they were dry, I sanded some areas so that the orange would show through in areas.

Then I glued on some tiny berries, a bit of raffia, and some leftover leaves from this project, and they were done!

This was so quick, and so incredibly easy.  Wouldn’t these be cute decorations on a Thanksgiving table?  And considering that my out-of-pocket expense comes to about $2.95 for each of them, it makes me like them even more!

That droopy guy just makes me giggle.  I think in my mind, I imagine him animated…like a Veggie Tale.  I know.  I’m weird like that.
