My Bright Idea For A ReStore Chandelier

Just a few more details on John & Alice’s master bathroom, and I’ll finally be done. Phew! That room was a doozy!

I decided that I want to add a chandelier, and since John & Alice don’t use the little heater that’s in the tub area, there’s room for a chandelier.

So I headed to ReStore to see what I could find. They had several, but only one that was the right size and shape. Oh, and it was only $25!!

Yes, it’s the ubituitous brass chandelier. These things are everywhere. I was definitely planning on painting it, but that just didn’t seem like enough. I wanted to do something really unique, so I rummaged around in my craft stash to see if anything stirred the creative juices.

I found some…

JUTE! Oh, how I love jute!

So I had the bright idea that after I paint the chandelier, I would wrap the arms of the chandelier with jute, like this…

Can you picture it? I thought I could, but I just wasn’t quite sure. Then I had a thought. Certainly I’m not the first person in the world to think of this idea! There are surely others. So I asked Google. Sure enough…there were others.

Jamie Young Udaipur Woven Jute 4-Light Chandelier, Lamps Plus, $379.91
Pottery Barn, discontinued (I think).  Was around $299.
Vintage chandelier from 1st Dibs.  No price listed…so it’s probably incredibly expesive.

I like ’em!  I have vision for it now.  What I DON’T have vision for is this ugly thing from Anthropologie.  Wow…sometimes they get it right, and sometimes they really, really don’t.  (Okay, I know at least one of you is going to love this thing.  It’s okay.  You’re allowed to be wrong.  I’ll still let you read my blog.)  😀

Dock Glow Chandelier from Anthropologie, discontinued (thank goodness!)

So I think I’m gonna go for it.  I’m pretty excited to see how it turns out.  Hopefully I’ll wind up with something very similar to one of these relatively expensive chandeliers at a fraction of the price.

Before I go, I just had to share these two pictures with you. This is my cat, Peeve. She is precious, and she’s so incredibly curious. She loves to watch me work on projects, wash dishes, cook, or anything else. She’s my little shadow.

She makes me smile.

Alrighty, so stay tuned to see how the chandelier turns out!

UPDATE:  I ended up spray painting the brass light with Rust-Oleum primer and spray paint in a pretty green color, and then I wrapped the arms in jute like I showed above.  I secured the jute with hot glue.  Here’s how it turned out:

  2. I have a feeling that you aren't going to cover up as much of the chandelier as the pictures show, and I think that will look so much better. Can't wait to see the finished product!
