My New Living Room Rug Is Here (And It’s Amazing!)

My new living room rug arrived yesterday, and it’s even more beautiful and more perfect than I expected. I mean, this thing is gorgeous, especially considering the price!

I purchased this Safavieh purple and gray rug in an 8 x 10 size. I was nervous about the colors, and was pretty much expecting to be disappointed (as I usually am with area rugs I order online) and to have to send it back. But oh my goodness, this one is perfect!

Pictures simply don’t do it justice. It’s so pretty in person — colorful yet subdued with an antiqued, beautifully worn look to it. It has a very low pile, but it’s so soft and comfy underfoot.

Here’s a view of it with my kitchen…

This rug has so many gorgeous colors in it. Of course, the main colors are purple (which is a beautiful muted purple) and gray (which complements my Benjamin Moore Classic Gray walls amazingly well), but look at all of these other colors!

I mean, I feel like I’ve struck gold with this one. I’m so unbelievably hard to please when it comes to area rugs. Finding an area rug with actual color in it that I like for my house has been virtually impossible in the past (though shopping for area rugs for others seems easy to me for some reason).

Every colorful rug that I remember buying in the past has been returned, which is why I generally buy neutral and seagrass type rugs. Those go with everything. But I so wanted a colorful rug for my living room. I had little hope of finding one I liked, and even after ordering this one, I had convinced myself that I’d have to return it.

But I’m tickled pink with this one! This one definitely isn’t going back. I couldn’t have ended up with a better rug for my house if I had tried to design it myself.

Oh, and it looks amazing with my entryway artwork.

I was going to show you a picture with the rug and the entryway together, but my ugly sofa was sitting right there in between and just ruined everything. So that view will have to wait until I get new fabric on the sofa, or at least until it gets moved out for reupholstering.

I can’t wait to get this room put together! It’s amazing how motivating a beautiful new rug can be. 🙂

  1. JACKPOT! I love that it’s subdued, washed, antiqued. Doesn’t hit you in the face with a riot of colors, but yet they are there. I’m so excited for you to have found this and love it. It will sure be a motivator! YIPPEE!

  2. Are you sure there isn’t a new sofa out there calling your name? You could then use the fabric you bought to reupholster the sofa on some of the chairs you were planning to recover. But….that’s just me, I’m a “needs instant gratification” kind of gal. Can’t wait to see it all come together. The rug is a beautiful addition to all of your other finished work.

    1. I’ve actually been looking for a new sofa. I’d love some immediate gratification! 😀 But every sofa I find that I really love is either too big (mine needs to be 75″ or smaller) or it has several different fabric options and says it will take up to 12 weeks for delivery. But I’m totally open to purchasing a new sofa if I can find the right size, color, and style. And price. 😉

  3. Love, love,Love! It has ALL THE COLORS! LOL I have been wondering about your siding on the workshop. Do you have to treat it before winter? Perhaps your winters are mild, but I was just thinking about that. You are really so close to completing so many projects! And I am enjoying reading about what you avcomplish!

    1. The siding comes pre-primed. I’ve been told that it needs to be painting within 180 days of installation (six months, roughly), so I still have some time. But it is at the top of my list as soon as we get estimates. I’ve had a hard time getting people out to give me estimates. Fortunately, our winters aren’t harsh at all here. We’re in central Texas, so our “winter” doesn’t generally get here until January, and even then, we’ll have a few really cold days mixed in with some 50+ degree temps. 🙂

  4. What a find! So glad it passes the touch test as a quality item as well. Yes, the colors are perfect for your decorating plan and the feel of the piece is of a classic, antique design but modern colorway. Love it. Happy for you both!

  5. I have to be honest. It’s odd to me that you don’t post a picture of the whole room with whatever sofa is there, or whatever else is in there. Blogging is real life, not some perfect world. In the future I think you should just post the pic showing the rug and the artwork and the sofa that is yet to be covered, but if you aren’t willing to do that, then why even mention that you had the idea, but the sofa wasn’t good enough – just leave that detail out.

    1. I’m very aware that blogging is real life. 🙂 I think you’d be hard pressed to find “perfect world” photos on my blog. I’m the only blogger I know of who doesn’t do sponsored posts where it’s necessary to create some fantasy “perfect world” staged scenario that looks beautiful just for pictures, and who doesn’t fill their Instagram feed with perfectly staged pictures. Everything on my blog is real life, but that doesn’t mean I want to show all of it all the time. I mentioned it because I was excited about how good the rug looked with my artwork, and I wanted to say so in my post. And I knew that if I didn’t explain why there was a lack of picture showing the two together, I’d have at least one person, if not several people, ask for a picture. I’ve been blogging ten years, and I’ve learned to anticipate what people are going to ask, for the most part. 🙂

      1. I totally understand this! One day I took a photo to send a friend who’s been a houseguest here annually for many years, so she knows we “live” in our home. However, there was a box sitting in the background by the stairway, so I removed the box and shot it again.

        LOVE the rug!

    2. Emily S. ….Kristi is the MOST “inclusive of the process” bloggers ever. I have learned so much from this site and appreciate her many ups and downs, yes and nos. Stay tuned, you’ll feel as much of one of her family as the rest of us do!

  6. I have admired this rug for quite awhile since it keeps popping up in ads on my page. It is absolutely gorgeous & perfect for your home!

  7. That rug really could not be better! It looks amazing with your kitchen and it’s almost like you made the artwork to go with it! Yay! Can’t wait to see this room come together! What great inspiration!

  8. Great choice! Looks perfect! I’ve been looking at similar ones from Pottery Barn but I bet your rug was a better price. Your getting there girl! It’s all coming together. Love what you’ve done.

  9. The lack of photo’s not that big a deal. All I had to do was scroll up and down, a short distance, quickly, and I could see the two things (rug and artwork) almost together… and it’s perfect! The colors are very, very good together… I’m so glad it worked out for you!

  10. Love it! It’s perfect! I chuckle because I too am the queen of neutral rugs. Lately I have a fetish for this type of rug tho. The colors are gorgeous. I can see in my head the picture you posted of a room of a decorators who style you admired, it had a ton of color! This rug looks great with that coral/orange chair in your earlier post. Time for some boldness?🙃 It’s all going to come together beautifully!
I notice you still have to paint your base moulding, FYI- plastic cutting mats work great for that. I had to paint moulding with carpet and it worked great😀

  11. Online rug shopping tip for future reference: find the rug you like in the smallest size offered. Buy that to “test” the colors. Much easier and cheaper to return if you dislike it in real life.

  12. The rug looks absolutely perfect and it looks awesome with the color of your kitchen cabinetry in the background and your entryway artwork. Great choice and I’m so pleased for you, it’s the perfect rug.
