Olioboard Challenge: 7 Days, 7 Bloggers, 7 Moodboards

Hello, hello!  As I told you a few days ago, I was invited by Olioboard to participate in a moodboard challenge with six other bloggers, and today’s my day!

The challenge was for all seven of us to create a moodboard in a coastal cottage style.  Each of us had a different room to design.  The room I chose was a bedroom.

So here’s what I came up with…

Greens and blues.  Are you shocked?  Ha!  Of course not!  As you know from my own little condo, I can’t seem to get enough of greens and blues.  There’s just something so soothing about that color combo (even if they’re of the teal and apple green variety like I have in my own home).

But for this room, since I was going for a coastal cottage look, I went with much softer colors that I’m normally drawn to for my own home.

My very first choice for the room was this wallpaper…

Oh my goodness, I love it!  The colors are perfect, and that adorable squirrel with the acorn in his paws makes me smile.  Okay, so I know the wallpaper reads more “woodsy” than “coastal”, but that’s okay.  I wasn’t going for a theme room, just an inspired room.

The next selections I made were the bed and the dressers that would serve double function as bedside tables.

Don’t those look pretty together?  I like the clean lines and sophisticated style of the bed paired with the warm and earthy dressers in the medium brown stain.  Gorgeous.

After those main selections, the rest kind of fell into place.  I wanted to add lots of natural elements and textures.  The lotus flower chandelier, made from hand cut capiz shells, is definitely a stunner.  At $649, it would certainly be a splurge, but I’m almost certain that an inexpensive DIY version could serve as a reasonable substitute.  (I imagine something made with vellum.)  Of course, for a beach-inspired room, woven baskets and glass items are must-haves, right?

And of course, for a bedroom, lots and lots of textiles are essential.  I tried to keep the colors fairly consistent, while incorporating lots of varied textures.  If I were actually decorating this room, I’d add even more texture if I could find it.

For the bedside lamps, I chose two similarly shaped lamps made out of different materials—glass and driftwood.

And finally, my cozy bedroom needed a comfy seating area.  Grounded with a floral rug, I added a chair similar in style to the upholstered bed, a soft blue ottoman, a rattan ottoman used as a side table, and a curled vine floor lamp.  At $699, that floor lamp would also be a splurge.  (Why is lighting so darn expensive?!)  But again, I think an inexpensive floor lamp dressed up with tall pieces of bamboo or birch could add the same effect to a room.

And that wraps it up!  That’s the tour of my coastal cottage bedroom.  What do you think?

I seriously love using Olioboard.  It’s so easy, it’s fun, and it’s quite addictive.  If you haven’t tried it out yet, you really need to!

  2. Love the colors & textures!  Trust me….here on the New England coast we have an (over)abundance of squirrels and the wallpaper is perfect! I prefer the glass table lamp…a family heirloom of my aunt's was a glass lamp almost like that only to get color they filled it with colored water and could change it to suit any decor. How cool is that?! Your choice of dresser is a dead ringer for what I grew up with on the coast and the rug makes me drool 🙂 Would love these colors for my living/dining rooms! Only suggestion is driftwood chandelier vs capiz shells…then again depends on what type of coast!  I think you nailed it all in all!

    Ciao!

  5. I'm sorry, what is this life of Reilly you live?-lol! JOKING-seriously, I KNOW it's hard work as well as a GIFTING…but…..WHAT FUN! 😀

I'm a sucker of the green/blue connection myself, even BEFORE it got way over popular yrs ago, and so yes…..I'm a sucker for all decor in those colors, no matter what genre realm, so…me loves 🙂

Especially the woodsey squirrel! As I live in the northwest in this little yellow cottage, so, cute inspiration w/the nut-and what a great match to the wood dresser (I've had to TWIST my arm over the yrs to STOP painting wood furniture 😉

And as for the olioboards….THANK YOU for sharing! I've seen similar blog sites trying to 'sell' the inspritation of these boards, but I didn't want their inspiration (as knowledgeable as it might have been-and don't allow that to make you grince in trepidation at their thoughts- I pray they DO find the business they need, YOU included, and blessings upon it)…but, I wanted my OWN try! So Thank you! Haven't had a chance to have fun on them yet, but will in the future.

And thanks for checking out my lime greeny/chartruesse painted door last week!

    Much love,
