Songs in white

Kristi’s post about 2009 color predictions made me think. Like her, I’m not a fan of purple. It’s absent from my wardrobe as well as my decor. What IS present is white – lots of it. So I thought I’d dig up some white rooms to share. Afterall, that’s one color you don’t have to watch the trends for. Cool, classy, comfortable, white can be many things easily.

But wait, I thought. How about white in the Indian context? ‘What?’ you say, ‘Isn’t India a riot of colors?’ Yes, it is. It’s a huge cauldron of a mixing pot. Anything, anything goes. Trust me, I’m Indian.

Amid the cacophony, though, there’s always the soothing presence of white in the background, lingering like calming music.

There’s white jasmine that adorns women’s hair, the homespun that Gandhi loved, the whitewashed humble dwellings, the marble interiors of great palaces.

So here it is: the White Collection. Rooms to dream about, rooms to dream in. I hope they inspire you!

Until next time,
Azra

Oh, I love white…especially when used with bold colors. These photos are gorgeous! It’s difficult to choose a favorite, but I’m leaning towards the last one. Thanks for the inspiration!

I thought the last one was sumptuous too, and I included it even though the rest of the collection is somewhat stark. I especially love the mirrors encrusted around the windows – a neat idea that could be used in so many different ways!

Anonymous – thank you! That’s an incredible blog! I can see some of the same pics there, but not all, and I can’t see the details of original links either…except slh.com, allposters.com and pro.corbis.com.
Thank you so much for letting me know though!

Beautiful photos!s It’s so good to see people using white again.s There’s something so beautiful and classic about white.s I remember early in this decade (2000-2002-ish) when shows like Trading Spaces became so popular, white became a taboo color to use in decorating.s Glad to see it’s back, and I love to see it used well in such gorgeous rooms.
