Space Saving Ideas For Your Bedroom

Guest post supplied by Tom Bailey

Space is often at a premium in our homes – and the reality is that unless we’re lucky enough to live in a huge mansion, we’re always going to be on the lookout to maximize the space available to us using a variety of tips and tricks.

The bedroom is a perfect example of a room that can become cluttered so easily; unless you’re particularly organized, clutter can pile up and become an eyesore before you know it. There are, however, a number of steps you can take to turn even the most claustrophobic bedroom into a serene spot without too much effort.

First and foremost, your choice of bed can have a huge impact on the amount of space that’s available in your master bedroom. And it’s not just down to the footprint of the bed; some examples come with in-built storage, which can be a real boost for the room. Divan sets are perfect for this, as many come with drawers as standard, meaning you can easily store away bed linen or clothes without any telltale signs.

If you would still prefer a traditional bed frame over a divan set, there are still steps you can take to help with storage space. Go for a frame with a high degree of floor clearance and invest in a number of plastic storage boxes to slide beneath the bed. With storage boxes, go for whatever offers the best value; it doesn’t matter if the boxes themselves aren’t to your taste aesthetically as they’ll be hidden out of sight.

If your room is big enough to take it, a storage chest can also be a great solution for the bedroom, combining practicality with a classic look. If your budget will stretch, a solid wood trunk can really be the making of a beautiful bedroom. On the more affordable side of things, bright plastic storage boxes make visually appealing toy chests for a children’s bedroom.

The same tips can obviously also apply for a spare bedroom but if space is tight to the extent that you can’t afford to designate a dedicated guest bedroom, sofa beds are a superb way to create a versatile room that can house overnight guests when needed. Again, if you can fit in bedroom furniture that looks good while also offering a storage solution then all the better.

  1. I have a storage chest like this one in my master bedroom. It’s got a covered sponge on the top, which is perfect for sitting. I think you could make a cushion seat for the one in the picture too.
The sofa is a great space saving idea for a bedroom because many of them come with storage underneath too – and turn out into a bed when you need them to.
