Weekly Wrapup

Happy Saturday to you! I hope you’re having a fantastic weekend! I got up early this morning and headed to the farmers market…and just about froze. I’m sure you northerners would laugh. It was about 40 degrees with a cold wind, but that’s about all this Texas girl can take!

Anyway, here’s what happened around the blog this week, just in case you missed anything…

A Thank You

Have you noticed my sponsor over there —> on the right sidebar with the picture of the waste basket with the cute liner? That’s a company called Designer Liners. For the longest time now, I’ve wondered why no one (that I knew of) made cute liners for use in home offices, bathrooms, and other areas where the waste basket is often left out for everyone to see. Well, now they do!

They sent me a package of the red toile liners, and they’re even nicer in person than they are in the picture! I admit, I’m very picky when it comes to reds, but this red is really nice–not too light, not too dark. So if you need some cute waste basket liners for your home office, bathroom, or anywhere else, be sure to give them a visit!

I also got a nice little package in the mail from Rust-Oleum with this really nice wood box…

…telling me all about their new wood care line of products, which includes exterior and interior stains and polyurethanes. (I can only assume that the pretty wood box is stained and sealed with these products.) I don’t have a wood deck to try out the exterior stain, but they say that the Cool TouchTM Technology reduces the surface temperature by up to 20 degrees F.

Have any of you used these products yet? I’d love to know your thoughts! I admit that I’ve only ever used Minwax stains and polyurethane up to this point, but it’s mostly because that’s the brand that is available when I’m at the home improvement store. I’m actually quite excited about giving a new brand a try and seeing what the difference is.

There’s one thing I can already tell you that I prefer about the Rust-Oleum over the Minwax. Let me show you…

See the sample on the right? That’s a matte finish polyurethane! Matte finish!! Oh, how I love a nice matte finish, and until now, the lowest sheen I’ve been able to find is a satin. I’m incredibly excited about trying out this product! If you’ve already tried it, let me know what you think.

On A Personal Note

Matt and I are ecstatic! We’ve stuck to our new healthy eating plan for an entire 20 days!! I know I keep saying this, but that’s simply miraculous. We haven’t even been tempted to eat fast food one single time. And Dr. Pepper? Evidently that’s just a thing of the past for me, because not only do I not crave it, but I just don’t even give it a thought.

Our diet is about 85% fruits and veggies, which just a month ago would have made me turn my nose up and complain, but now the sight of all of this nutritious goodness just makes me happy.

We go through an unbelievable amount of produce each week, since we each eat one huge salad each day, and then we have a fresh juice drink in the evening. In addition to the fruits and veggies, we eat the yummiest eggs and the best tasting beef ever! (All grass-fed, no hormones, no antibiotics, that I buy at the farmers market.) Going from an almost 100% fast food diet with very little water and a ton of soda, to what we’re eating now, it goes without saying that we’re both feeling great! It’s amazing what REAL food can do for the body and the mind!

The improvement that we’ve seen in Matt since we changed our diet has been remarkable. He’s gaining strength in general, and has more energy throughout the day. Good things are happening, and I’m excited to share them with you as things progress.

Well, I’ve rambled on enough today, so I’ll leave it at that for now. This week seems like a blur to me, so I honestly can’t remember if I added new photos to the photo galleries. I’ll try to be more on top of that in the future. And don’t forget…there’s still plenty of time to link up your latest project in this week’s link party.

Have a fantastic (rest of the) weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday…hopefully with an update on my hallway and utility closet progress!

  3. Changing your eating habits are sometimes the simplest and yet the hardest thing to do for ourselves! We belong to a produce co-op, called Bountiful Baskets. They offer fresh fruits and veggies every other week for 20-40% less than grocery stores. It’s all volunteer, they offer organic as well as regular produce, & specialty produce like an Asian pack or Italian pack for minimal $.
