Beautiful, Colorful Chandeliers (and a Sneak Peek Of My Glass Chandelier)

My love of a colorful chandelier started with this picture:

That was the beginning of my obsession with bright, colorful chandeliers. I don’t know where I first spotted the photo, but I blogged about it two years ago. So as you can see, this is not a new obsession for me.

And I’m not picky either…it can be a spray-painted flea market find, or a gorgeous (and obscenely expensive) Murano glass chandelier. I find them all equally as exciting and beautiful.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite colorful chandelier from this group of six.

So about a year ago, I decided that I needed to find a chandelier to go above my dining table in my little condo. And even though my condo is tiny, I still wanted something colorful, maybe a bit oversized, and something that would make a definite statement.

After searching and searching, and coming up empty, I had almost given up. Then I spotted it….THE PERFECT chandelier. The only problem…it was an antique glass chandelier, and was priced at $1200. Needless to say, that was NOT going to happen.

But then a couple of months later, the same chandelier was marked down on clearance. The bargain price? $200.00! I still can’t believe I payed that much for a chandelier (yes, I’m incredibly cheap, and $20 is generally more my price range for a chandelier), but I just loved it so much. And I’ll love it sooooo much more once it’s painted. 🙂 Yes, I said PAINTED!!

I just heard a collective gasp among the antique lovers out there. The truth is, I don’t have a care in the world about antiques, or how valuable they are, or how they lose value when you paint or refinish them, blah, blah. I’m just not an “antiques” kind of person. What I DO know is that the shape of this chandelier was absolutely perfect in my mind, and I can see it now…GREEN! And while it’s not yet painted, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek of it.

My future colorful chandelier...I can't wait to paint it!
One arm broke off during the trip home with my new treasure.

Now you might wonder why my hand is in the photo. Well, that’s because I’m actually having to hold that one arm of the chandelier up. You see, somewhere between the store and my paint shed, the chandelier broke. Yep…that arm snapped right off. It’s not a problem. I’ll just use some Loctite Epoxy, it’ll be as good as new (or, as good as antique, I guess I should say).

I can’t wait until the weather warms up a bit so I can paint it. I’m going to use Rustoleum spray paint in Green Apple. It’s definitely going to be one colorful chandelier!

That color will pull out the green from my window treatment fabric:

And when it’s finished, it’ll hang right here:

Well, I’d better step away from the computer and get busy. So much to do!! I hope you have a great weekend.
