Small Condo Kitchen Design — Weighing My Options

I am absolutely in a quandary with my small condo kitchen design, but over the last two days, I think I may have made some headway with the decision-making process regarding my kitchen.

On Wednesday, I posted a photo of a fantastic living room, and the colors in that room are very similar to the ones I want to use in my little condo. That same day, I also came across this photo on the Architectural Digest website:

That kitchen is so luscious it almost makes my mouth water!! So now I’m inspired. The problem is that my little condo is…well…little. I mean, it’s TINY (only 834 square feet), and I don’t want it to look busy. I want peaceful and relaxing!

And I think that color, along with a beautiful warm wood butcherblock countertop will be just right in my tiny little condo kitchen.

So with the inspiration of these two photos, here’s what I’m thinking. I want to with my small condo kitchen design:

  • paint the bottom cabinets in my kitchen this beautiful aqua blue color (actually, mine would have a touch more green, I think),
  • paint the upper cabinets in cream,
  • add a butcher block countertop (which I think is my new favorite countertop),
  • add a backsplash in cream subway tiles, with a little accent of tiny blue (and maybe clear) glass tiles.

So I just need….ummm….nudging, I think. I really want to do this, but it’s so unlike anything I’ve done before that I’m a bit nervous to take the plunge. One thing that I am absolutely sure of, though, is that I’m no longer a fan of the whole white or brown cabinets with granite countertops. It just seems to be the only thing that’s done anymore, which means that none of those kitchens look special or unique anymore. So I’m certain that I want something different and out-of-the-ordinary.

The funny thing is that if this were a kitchen for a client, I would have had the decisions made long ago. Heck, the thing would have been finished a long time ago. I have absolutely no problem making decisions for others. Why is it that I can’t commit to anything in my own home??!!! It’s getting so frustrating! I’ve been living here for two years, and it still looks like a construction zone because I CAN’T COMMIT!

Oh my…it might be time for therapy. Well, if anyone has any thoughts on the proposed design, please share!!!
