Repurposed Drawers

When I transformed this Craigslist dresser…

…into this t.v. stand for John & Alice’s family room…

…I was left with six drawers that weren’t being used.  I still have them, and I’m having a hard time throwing them away because I’m just certain that there are many creative ways in which they can be used.

So I turned to Google to give me some ideas.  Here are a few that I found.

My favorite idea is to turn the drawers into a planter.  I don’t really understand how this self-watering planter from Instructables works (because I haven’t read through the instructions yet), but I love the way it looks.

This chest by WIS Design is simply amazing.  I’d love to try my hand at making something like this if I had room for it, but unfortunately, my tiny condo lacks the space for a piece like this.

A very simple idea is to turn a drawer into a shelf, like this one from Trash 2 Treasure.  I think I would leave the feet off and hang it on a wall.  I could use just one, or hang them in a group.

This idea from DiggersList would be great if I had an outdoor space to call my own.  But condo living doesn’t come with outdoor space (a fact that I’m usually grateful for until I see a great idea like this)…

I love this idea for a table that I found on My Lovely Life.  What a pretty way to store bath salts and other bath items next to the tub!

Unfortunately, I have no need for under bed storage (since I built the base for my bed to include storage cubbies), but if I had a standard bed with space underneath, this would be a great way to use my extra drawers!  I found this on Pinterest.

Aren’t those some great ideas?!  I’m telling ya, there are some mighty creative people out there!

Looking through all of the ideas I found last night really helped get my creative juices flowin’.  I finally have an idea for mine, but you’ll have to wait a bit to see it.  I’ll give you a hint…it involves my two furry felines.

So if you had six extra drawers that were in good shape and had pretty little handles on them, what would you do with them?

  1. The under bed storage and the outdoor space for plants are my favorites. I think I would make a cat bed out of one of them, since my cats like drawers. Something about being able to curl up in their own space makes them purr.

  2. My guess is…  if you save them, you'll eventually find the PERFECT thing to do with them when the time is right and we'll all be amazed when we see it.

  3. Great ideas!  I also have loads of drawers sitting around.  I like the last two best, probably because they look the easiest~

  4. I am really itching for something like that by my stairs. I need something to hold baskets for each of the kids to take their stuff upstairs and not have it collect on the stairs. Love it. Stop by if you would like to link up any Tips you may have.

  6. LOVE the under bed storage. We need this under ALLLLLL of our beds!!! Too bad Craigslist in Wichita is severely over priced. I'll watch at yard sales, though! 🙂

  7. I LOVED LOVED LOVED your TV stand! I will most definitely remember it for future use. Very clever.

  8. Great ideas. I saved all of the drawers from my kitchen redo last year…15! I have a few ideas but have not done a thing…maybe I'll get moving now!

  9. I like the idea by NancyU of making a cat bed of out the drawer.  The cats do seem to like to cuddle in them.  Nice TV stand.
