The Post Where I Reveal The True Depth Of My Crazy (that might lead to something kind of fun!)

I’ve had this idea, which I think would be kind of a fun little addition to my blog, for quite some time.  So today, I want to see what you think.  But in explaining how this idea all came about, I’ll also be revealing the true depth of my craziness.  I hope you’ll still like me at the end of this post.  🙂

Remember the other day when I wrote the post entitled The Post In Which I Reveal Too Much About Myself?  Well, as soon as I hit publish on that post, I told Matt, “Well, people who read my blog are going to know just how crazy I am after today’s post.”

He looked at me with a shocked look on his face and said, “Really?  You told them about your podcast?!”

Without hesitation, I said, “NO!!!  I didn’t tell them about my podcast!”

Seeming a bit disappointed, and a bit disinterested at that point, he said, “Oh.  Then what did you tell them?”

I responded, “Well, I told them about my incessant need to peel things, and my irrational fear of things living in the walls at night.  Why?  Do you think I should tell them about my podcast?  Do you think they’re ready?”

He looked at me, shook his head, and laughed under his breath.  Then said, “Kristi, no one is ready for that level of crazy.  I wasn’t ready for that level of crazy, and I’ve been married to you for almost twelve years!”

Well, today I’m going to see if he’s right.  😀

So let me back up to about three weeks ago.

It was about eight o’clock at night.  The day was winding down, and I had been working on some sort of project all day.  I was ready to put the project aside for the day, have some dinner with Matt, relax, watch a show, and settle in for the night.

My task was simple.  I was supposed to go to the Mexican restaurant down the street and get us some tacos, but on the way, I was supposed to stop at the store and get Matt some pretzels.  He had asked me several times, and had even reminded me as I was walking out the door.

“Okay!  I hear you!  I’ll get your pretzels!” I said as I walked out the door, a bit irritated that he had reminded me for the tenth time that day.

So when I got home, he was sitting at the dining table (which is currently in the music room — the original dining room) and the first thing out of his mouth was, “Did you get my pretzels?”

I didn’t even have to answer.  The look on my face told him exactly what he already knew.  Nope, I hadn’t gotten the pretzels, because I had forgotten.  “Sidetracked” should be my middle name, because I live in a perpetual state of being sidetracked.  With a sheepish little grin on my face, I walked past him and into the kitchen.

Somehow between the front door and the quarter mile down the road where the grocery store is located, right at the corner where I have to turn to go to the restaurant, I had forgotten his pretzels.

The reason for my forgetfulness wasn’t a mystery to me, but I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to reveal the reason to Matt.  But I decided to go for it.  I waited for the question that I knew would inevitably be the next thing out of his mouth.

“Kristi, how in the world could you forget my pretzels?!  I reminded you as you were walking out the door?!”

“I know.  I’m so sorry.  I’m just so tired, and my car goes in auto pilot to the Mexican restaurant,”  I said.  And then I paused for a second, readying myself for the next revelation.  “Plus, I was hosting my podcast show, and I was just very distracted.”

There was silence.  No response at all.

I peeked around the corner to see him sitting there just staring in my general direction, his face was completely expressionless.

Then, a tad bit offended that I got no response at my deep revelation, I said, “Are you kidding me?!  I just told you that I host a podcast show in my car, where I clearly have no actual recording equipment, and you have no response to that?!”

He let out a deep sigh, kind of cocked his head to the side and gave me a little eye roll as he laughed under his breath, then said, “Kristi, I have no idea what you’re talking about, but this is you we’re talking about.  I just assumed it was something crazy.  And I just wanted pretzels.”  Then he laughed under his breath and shook his head again.

I said, “Well, of course it’s crazy!  But I would think you’d still want to know about it.”

Then finally he said, “Okay, tell me about your podcast show.”

And that’s when I revealed to him that almost every time I get in my car, I host an imaginary podcast show where I talk to all of you about all things DIY, decorating, home improvement, and so on.  😀

When I finished explaining, I waited for his response.  He just looked at me, laughed, and said, “Yep, that sounds about right.”

I’ve always thought that podcasts and radio shows about topics of decorating, DIY, and home improvement were kind of silly because those topics are so visual.  But interestingly, I almost never run out of things to say!  😀

So that’s got me to thinking lately, would this be something that y’all are interested in?  I could even take reader-submitted questions and answer them.  (I do get flooded with questions on an almost-daily basis, and I can’t keep up, so answering them in my car might be a good way to at least try to keep up!)  Of course, I couldn’t answer specific decorating questions that people submit with photos since it would just be audio (plus, that’s what this is for), but it could be other things that don’t require any visual aids.

So y’all can let me know if that’s something that sounds interesting to you.  I’ll keep on hosting my podcast either way, so you can let me know if you’d like the opportunity to actually hear to what I’m saying to all of you.  😀

You still like me, right?  My immense depth of crazy hasn’t driven you off, has it?

  1. Mmm. Podcast would be fine.

I do this sort of thing to my husband from time to time–no podcast, but other things, like the marathon. Hes’ learned to roll with it. ;).

  2. That idea sounds great and I was thinking that your poor brain must NEVER stop. I guess such awesome creativity does come at a price and spinning wheels (in the brain) must be your price. LOL

I would tune in to your podcast for sure.

    1. I agree with Cyndee – your brain never stops! I say go for it! You will be the “Kim Kommando” of the DIY world!

By the way, you have inspired me to crack open my sewing machine and make decent drapes for a guest room. If that goes well, I’ll eventually do all the windows in my house. I have already printed your instructions for sewing a Roman shade. I’m exicted! Thanks for you inspiration AND detailed instructions!

  3. Yes we still like you. Yes, we like that you’re crazy and YES!!!! do the podcast. Or even a YouTube channel. 🙂

  4. Hi Kristi, I love it! Please give it a try. I keep thinking about how much you put into a single post and then wondering how much more you could share in a podcast. This could be really awesome. 🙂

  5. I don’t think you’re as looney tunes as you think you are- I’ve totally done the same thing. Shoot, I talk to myself most of the day. I work from home too, so maybe that has something to do with it. Then again, the two of us could just be nuts 🙂

    1. well I think everyone has to be nuts to survive this world…it is crazy in itself!! so we are just a bowlful of nuts I think!! Kristi I don’t even know what a podcast is but I say go for it girl…cause you are a genius no doubt with all the wealth of information tried and proved…well most of the time…but we enjoy the ride of watching you try everything you do…even when it is your first time at something…you convey courage to us…and that is brightness in my day!!! I love your blog and look forward to it everyday…first thing I look for is the email telling me you have posted…so when I find out what a podcast is I am sure I will enjoy it as well…

  6. YES! I absolutely love podcasts, and would love to listen to an a2d podcast. Plus, do you have a cute Texas accent? That would be awesome. Do it!

    1. Somewhere along the way, I lost most of my Texas accent. I think it happened when I moved to Turkey, and had to really enunciate when speaking English to many of the Turks there (as I was learning Turkish). The only time I ever have a thick accent anymore is when I spend time with my sister. She has a very thick accent, and it rubs off on me when I’m around her. 😀

  7. Yes! I’d love it! if you could squeeze in some videos of your projects in your spare time, that would be amazing too – the Kristi YouTube channel would be fantastic! 🙂

  8. Yes! Do it! I LOVE your kind of crazy! You have a talent that so many of us appreciate. Incidentally, i love that you reveal your little idiosyncrasies to us. We all have them, and it is great that you are willing to share. So peel away, sister!

  9. Oh, you are crazy alright! But that is what we all LOVE about you! That crazy feeds your creative genius and allows us to see all the magic that you create. I, for one, am grateful for that crazy because it inspires me! So, keep on doing your podcasts in your car…and post them online for us to hear and enjoy and learn from. (And consider the YouTube channel idea that lots of people have been suggesting, too.)

  10. Kristi,
I have hosted an Oprah type talk show in my car for YEARS! I never run out of questions to ask my “guests”. However, this year we’ve been down to one car and my husband drives me back and forth to work. So the “set” of my show has moved to the shower. I say we all need a place to let the crazy out.
    Linda
p.s. I’m technology challenged but I’d try to listen to a podcast.

  11. I would vote “no” on the podcast. I’m a visual person. Audio just goes in one ear and out the other. I would never buy the pretzels if it wasn’t on a list.

  12. I found your blog a few months ago and love it! I look forward to reading it every day and wonder what surprises are in store. So you did surprise me with the idea of a podcast. I think its a wonderful idea and not crazy at all. The only thing that I think is crazy is how you find time to do all the things that you do! I am a quilter and regularly listen to quilting podcasts. That is very visual too, but it does work. So please go for it, I’ll definitely be listening!

  13. Kristi – all I have to say is that we are kindred spirits because I do the same thing! Whether is about DIY, or about my career/job or about my passion for writing…when I’m alone in my vehicle I just chatter away. And the great thing now with the hands-free device, I don’t look like a crazy person talking to themselves when people pass me, they just simply think I’m on the phone!
We should have a podcast interviewing each other! LOL

Keep up the good work, everything looks awesome!
    Dawn

  14. Well…..I am a follower, so whatever you do, I will follow you. I look for your new posts everyday and am so excited. I find myself telling my husband all you can do. I even told some strangers at the home depot about your blog. So, saying all that, whatever you want to tell about, I would listen. I think you could talk about anything and make it interesting.

    1. I agree with Alicia! I love your tips and encouragement. It gives me hope that maybe I can accomplish some of the changes I want to make. Audio from the pod casts and visual from the blog…. sounds like a winner to me!

  15. Girl, I LOVE your kind of crazy it’s just like mine! I was so excited to hear you had a pod cast that I was getting ready to start looking for it, until I read a little further. So my answer is YES, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, do a podcast!

  16. I love the idea. I don’t think it’s crazy at all. If I did then I would have to accept that all my own “out loud conversations explaining my new decorating ideas to no one else but the walls around me” is crazy. And that can NOT be possible!

I am sitting here feeling sorry for poor pretzel-less Matt….

  17. I was all excited when I started reading and thinking OMG….she has a podcast I could listen to!! Then the air left my sails when I realized you didn’t. Sooooooooo the answer to your question is HECK YA!!! Please do a podcast! I’d be a daily listener! 🙂

  18. Honey, you are not crazy! I have been doing this from the moment my car became my empty nest! I don’t know what a podcast is….I have just been solving decorating problems of homes, offices any places I visit. When I get back in my car by myself, off I go. Explaining exactly why they need to change things and where they can go to get the best deals etc. This is so funny. I also do free psychoanalysis of family and friends while in the car! The best part of doing all this talking is that there is no one to argue with you or interrupt you and you are always right!!!

  19. Your level of energy wears me out and now I find out the inside of your head is going just as fast. Yes, You might be a little bit crazy, but obviously that is what keeps all this activity happening. God bless you!

Podcast, yes, but focus on your driving. No one would be thrilled to hear you were injured in a car accident…or any where else for that matter.

Your posts are interesting…keep going. Just don’t forget the pretzels!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Other’s craziness gives me a deep satisfaction of which there are no words expressive enough to convey. So, keep the crazy goin, sister. Love it. Love you. ps. I talk to myself in my car all the time. I’m sure people think I’m having a wild conversation via Blue Tooth. Nope…it’s just me.

  21. You are amazing. You write with such style, I already imagine that you’re talking to us; I’d love to hear your voice. A word of advice, though. Buy Matt a case of pretzels now, while you have time, because you’re going to be an even busier lady. Good Luck!

  22. So PODCAST is sound only, right? Kristi, how about a You-Tube video presentation? Sometimes you just need to show examples of what you are talking about. AND, if its been a busy day and the last thing you want is to be in front of a camera you can have a table always present with a bowl of pretzels on it! Let there always be pretzels! Maybe Matt would be interested in videoing the KRISTI FILES. Yes, I would listen to a podcast!

    1. Yes! The Kristi Files on YouTube! Ha ha! Always with a bowl of pretzels in the background – I love it!

Kristi, I kept waiting for the crazy part…doesn’t everyone use their car as their stage..? I’ve given some of my best ever speeches while driving all alone with no one to interrupt or distract me. I’ve been reading you for so long now you actually popped into my head yesterday when I was at IKEA. I was struggling with some very heavy shelving units in the self-serve part of the store trying to get them off a shelf above my head (I too am only 5′ tall) and I was about to give up and look for an associate when this just popped into my head “If Kristi was here she could do it, I can too!” I got those suckers down, on the trolley, loaded into my van and carried into the house – felt great!

    2. I would love to do more videos!! They take so much time, and way more effort than a podcast, but I’ll see what I can do. 🙂 And yes, there shall always be a bowl of pretzels present. 😀

  23. Have you ever been looking in the mirror and pretended to be hosting a DIY tv show? I have been doing that for years:). Hope that confession makes you feel better. And yes, I am all in for your podcast!

  24. Go for it! I, unfortunately, won’t be able to listen as I am usually on the work computer (rarely have time to get online at home) with sound muted (: Would if I wouldn’t get fired! That said, I still think it’s a great idea!

  25. Sounds normal to me…..I host a cooking show in my kitchen all the time and the only viewers are my kitchen cabinets!

  26. K,
I don’t think that’s crazy at all. I’ve created my own podcast and even put it on iTunes. You can do it…it’s actually pretty easy. But I suspect your readers would love to see the video podcast. Good luck!

    Christine

  27. I’d love to hear what is swirling around in that creative, talented head of yours! I spend alot of time in my car for work. You’d be great entertainment for my drive.

  28. Kristi,

I listen to a home repair podcast On Sunday mornings. Don’t know why a DIY podcst wouldn’t work. I imagine you would have sponsors lining up.

  29. You made my day, I started to laugh out loud, because that is what happens at our house !I love your blog, it has really inspired me to get things fixed up in our own home and you have sooo much energy ! A podcast would be great !

  30. It is your particular brand of crazy that keeps me reading and looking forward to your blog every day. The problem I can see is once you get your kitchen done and don’t need to get Mexican so often will you have time in the car to broadcast? Lol.

  31. I don’t think you’re crazy. I think you have so many creative ideas that you have to constantly write, talk, photograph and DO them (plus maybe a little bit of ADHD). A podcast would seem like a natural extension of what you’re already doing. I think its a great idea and would also love to see some YouTube videos.

  32. I think it’s a great idea. I, however, don’t listen to any podcasts so I’ll probably miss it. I like the video idea.

  33. I watched your YouTube videos when I first found your blog. I enjoyed listening as well as watching. I think a Pod Cast could be interesting. (I do have to say that the only Pod Cast I have ever listened to were those of Marla Cilley AKA Flylady. Love her!) So you would definitely be next on my list. I think you would regret not trying it! Oh and I talk to myself in the car all of the time! And when aomeine looks at me ceazy I get embarrassed and say “I love you” to my husband who is not with me! Now that is crazy! Lol

  34. I’m not sure what a podcast is, exactly. I love your blog, though, and the photos. I’m gonna sound like a mother hen, now, and say I’m concerned about you being distracted behind the wheel. Be careful and keep posting – just shared your blog with my BFF who wants to paint a design like the one in your laundry room!

  35. It would be great as a you tube show. Kristi’s Addiction (that should get somebody listening – HA) OK, you need to do it, have a contest for a name for your show. Also YT would enable photos, and Matt’s extreme knowledge of different programs available for moving stuff around on the page would be awesome. Wait, you do that yourself, right? Holy cow, you’re the whole package!!

  36. OMG, Kristi…you are so CUTE! I love your crazy! And thank you for sharing. It makes the rest of us crazies feel “normal”. DO THE PODCAST. Seriously. Or a You Tube channel would be great, too. Just keep us posted…I wanna tune in to what ever you are doing!

  37. You’d be like the Dr. Laura of DIY!!! I think it’s an awesome idea – esp the part where you could answer questions and dilemmas (like Dr. Laura). If you were on now, I would be calling you!!! 🙂 Julia (seriously, it’s an awesome idea). x

  38. Sooooooo funny! I can totally relate! I have a post, this is not finished, about my craziness level! And loved the part about having too much to say cause I totally can relate to needing ideas for posts. I think I would have enough until the day I die! Love it!

  39. Funny,
You want to provide more info to us, and you’re wondering if we’ll still LIKE you?

    You’re so generous and giving.
    OF COURSE I’LL LISTEN!!!

  40. Before I had kids, I pretended I had my own cooking show every time I cooked. Why did I stop? Cause I talk enough to them all thru the day and by time supper rolls around I am tired of talking 🙂 So you podcast away!

  41. Craziness makes the heart grow fonder. Kristi, I follow way too many decorating sites, but you make yours speak to my heart.
    Podcast? Go for it!

  42. You are not crazy! I laughed as I read about your “crazy” because I ride horses and that is mine. When I ride horses and no one is around, I am a clinician showing the ways of training that I acquired over the years. I sit up there, like I have it going on, helping others learn to be one with their horse! I even answers question from the clinic participants. We all need our passion that gives us the release of stress from life and

  43. Kristi, you’re not crazy at all! You’re funny and have a great sense of humor, among your many other attributes and talents. I’d absolutely listen to a podcast, and I’d also watch you on YouTube. In fact, I’ve thought for a while now you should host your own HGTV show, but so much of that stuff is fake, and you’re so real, it might not be the best avenue for your creative expression. A YouTube channel, however, you could do on your own in your own style. But, yes, I’d totally tune-in to a Kristi podcast!

By the way, I’m going to be wondering whether Matt got his preztels until you tell us if you went back out for them!

  44. Love it! Do the podcasts and coordinate it with some pictures we can see like a slide show on the side bar of your blog. If we can sit down at a computer, great, if not, we’ll just listen to the podcast. You do such a great job describing your work here, I’m sure it will be great in your own voice!

  45. I read this and was “Oh! First, a blog! Now maybe a podcast! Before we know it she will have her own show on HGTV!”. Seconds later….”OH! She’ll surely need a good CPA who loves decorating/DIY. Cause this is like the BIG TIME. And she won’t have time to manage all those piddly things called receipts.” And I’m clearly the logical choice since we’re practically neighbors, I mean I’m like 5 minutes from IKEA…and surely she goes to IKEA occasionally, right? Yes, that will be most excellent I say to myself….very convenient. And the pistons just keep misfiring with thoughts like “What if we took her company public?!?!” Ohhhhhh! The possibilities! Yeah, I’m gonna buy A LOT of Kristi Linauer stock , I think to myself. Wait, we should probably get her body insured too….cuz those hands are worth an absolute fortune!! Note to self: do benefit analysis of insuring whole body vs. specific body parts.

So there you go…just know you have a lot of company riding with you on the crazy train. 😉

      1. Ooooh it could be callled “Linauer Hour”… (sorry I misspelled your last name) but it rhymes- so that’s my point. 😉

  46. I was actually really relieved to read this. Every time I cook or bake anything I pretend I’m hosting a cooking show! Ha ha. Glad to know there are others with similar idiosyncrasies. I would definitely enjoy the podcast and encourage you to go for it! The you tube channel is a great idea also and you never know what new opportunities it could lead to…

  47. Janice-I host my own cooking show too. The camera is my kitchen window. Hmmm, could it be the crazies are the new normal? LOL.

  48. So what’s crazy about that? I’ve given speeches, taught a whole training session (including Q’s & A’s) and performed any number of plays while in the sanctity of my car. Where else can you get that much “alone” time? As a bonus, my car gives much better reviews than most of my audiences.

  49. hmmmmm well, I am old, and have no clue what you are talking about, but if you are doing something and can explain to me how to join, I would love it!!
I am so glad Matt got his pretzels….thought we were going to have an intervention here to stock him up :^)
    Blessings,
    J

  50. Oh my gosh girl….you had me snorting. That is over the top funny!!!
Poor Matt….did he get his pretzels that night?

BTW….I think your podcast would be fun and funny and fabulous. But….I dislike podcasts and video. Maybe that’s what I like about blogging….written words and photos make my heart sing.

  51. LOVE YOU EVEN MORE…!!!! You’re just as crazy as the rest of us…!!! It would be nice to hear your voice and all but we don’t need you to be so distracted while driving missy… keep that “crazy” for yourself…!!!!

  52. Another comment … I follow a few bloggers but today I looked right for yours… your are so funny. !!! I would love that too but would still want to see your stuff on your blog, wouldn’t want that to be compromised. I don’t have “ipod” but “YouTube” could be nice

  53. I like your kind of crazy – it’s a big part of what keeps me reading along.
I like some podcsts but not all. The content is often interesting but what turns me off some podcasts is how drawn out they can be with lots of pauses (often long pauses), umms, ahhhs and lots of waffling on with fillers. The ones that are well done are a delight; the rest can just be tedious and painful. I suspect the difference is planning what to say and then editing (which is the time consuming bit). I do like the idea of hearing you explain your ideas and answering questions and can see how much simpler this could be.

  54. OMMMMMMMMGGGGGGG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT CAN’T BE TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SAVE YOURSELF……………….SHE’S GONE OFF THE DEEP END………………….
    WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
