Two Reasons You May Not See My Blog Posts Anymore

Hey everyone!  So, there have been some changes that I want to tell you about so that you can be really sure that you’ll still receive my posts from here on out.  I mean…if you want to, that is.  🙂

1.  Facebook stinks!

fb_icon_325x325The first major change happened on Facebook on April 1st.  And sadly, it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke, either.

As of April 1st, Facebook is now only showing my posts to a very tiny percent (as in, about 2 to 4 percent) of the people who have liked my page.  That’s right.  Even though you “liked” my page, indicating that you want to be kept informed about what’s going on, Facebook has decided that you don’t really need to see it.

Actually, what they’ve decided is that they would like for me and other page owners to pay them money in order for the people who have liked our pages to actually see our posts.  In order for me to continue reaching the same number of people I was reaching before April 1st, I would have to pay Facebook $200 per post.

Ummm…I won’t be paying that.  🙂

So that means that if you rely on your Facebook news feed to show you my posts, chances are that you’ll miss them now.  Boo, Facebook!  🙁

2.  Feedburner stinks!

feedburner_logoFor years now, I’ve used Feedburner to deliver my posts by email.  That means that if you’ve subscribed to my blog and have been receiving email notifications when I publish a new post each day, you’ve subscribed via Feedburner.  (If you look at the bottom right of the email, it should say something like “Email delivery powered by Google.”)

Well, I’m going to stop using Feedburner.  That means if you’ve been receiving these emails, they will stop coming.

Feedburner has become incredibly unreliable.  My number of subscribers varies drastically from day to day, sometimes by several thousand.  That means I have no idea if everyone who has subscribed is actually getting my emails.  Boo, Feedburner!  🙁

The Solution:

I’m switching to a new delivery system, which is actually one that I used to use, then I stopped, and now I’m bringing it back.  It’s one that I have to pay for (and one which I’ll gladly pay for), which means that it’ll always be accurate, delivery will be reliable, and no one can hold my posts for a ransom (I’m talkin’ to you, Facebook!).  😀

So I would love to invite you to sign up to receive emails on this new system.

And I’m going to try to make it worth your while.  Not only will you get new posts delivered to your inbox so you won’t miss any of my room makeovers and DIY projects, but I’m also going to include:

  • subscriber-only giveaways,
  • exclusive behind-the-scenes videos,
  • extra DIY tips, and
  • perhaps even a special DIY project only for subscribers every once in a while.

All you need to do is enter your first name and email address below:
(Please note that the automated email it sends out says that the email will be weekly. It won’t. It’ll be anytime I post a new blog post, just like the current email system. I’m trying to figure out how to edit that email.) 🙂

You’ll also see a similar sign up form at the bottom of each post from here on out. 🙂

So sorry for the inconvenience! Hopefully the transition will be quick and painless.

Psst…if you’d rather read my blog in a reader, you can follow my blog with Bloglovin.

  1. I have been using Bloglovin since google reader went away, and I have to say, I love it! I never miss a post, and if I fall a day or two behind, they’re all waiting for me to read without a zillion emails in my inbox (yes, I’m a blog junky, love reading blogs!!) I had noticed that some of my regular Facebook feeds seemed really sporadic so this explains a lot. I’m sorry FB has gotten greedy but I’m happy their are alternatives! Your blog is top on my list of favorites 🙂

  2. Kristi, thanks for keeping us abreast of the changes! I too use Bloglovin, and it works just fine and doesn’t clutter up my inbox. It’s like a DVR for blogs!

I use Facebook, too, but I’ve never liked or followed any blogs or businesses on Fb, because of ALL THE POSTS I’d have to scroll past in my feed to get to news from friends. The Facebook changes are clearly unfortunate from the perspective of bloggers and other small businesses, but it actually sounds to me like an improved user experience.

  3. Booo Facebook! I signed off a couple months ago. Thanks for the easy sign up for the new email delivery. Don’t wanna miss a thing!!

  4. I tried subscribing at the bottom of the post twice but each time got a message that it was an invalid email address – wrong format, I think it said. I tried again up in the body of the post and that worked. Just wanted to let you know. Look forward to your blog and would hate miss any of it. Thanks!

      1. Mary, the little form in the blog post should work. I’m having issues with the other one (the bigger one after the blog post), but I’m working on it now. 🙂

        1. I signed up about an hour ago and still have not received the confirmation e-mail…….What do I have to do now???

  5. Just wanted to let you know that I hate receiving emails but I do subscribe to your blog through Feedly. I really enjoy your blog, just not emails. I never followed you through Facebook for the same reason as Elizabeth. Keep up the good work!

  6. I don’t care about neither method ’cause I have your blog in a browser tab permanently opened and check every day. (Yes, I love you that much! <3 ) Impractical, I know.

That said, I thought facebook did that ages ago, and the solution was for us to go select "I want to see ALL posts" in every page separately. Same about our friends. Not that it works. Facebook sucks 😛 Always has.

    1. I keep your blog and three others on my iPad “reading list” to check on daily. Facebook seemed pretty intrusive from day one if you like your privacy. Watching the service evolve convinces me that’s the right move. And I often wonder how bloggers can blog, Facebook, Instagram, and tweet without collapsing from overwork. Just happy to have your blog to follow.

    2. You are right. After you “like” her page you the scroll down the like button to “follow posts” or something similar to that. It works

  7. I’ve known other bloggers to get fed up with Feedburner. And as for Facebook, it’s been wretched for months. :/

I get around it by visiting your website each day. No problem!

  8. I follow you on bloglovin…love it. Although I am signed up on the email too so I always get double notices. Is this new system better than bloglovin? And I just have to put “addi” into my search engine and it takes me right there, every day! lol….and wait, does that mean if I follow you only on bloglovin I won’t be able to be in the give aways????..

  9. $200 per post! That is obscene! Ihave been seeing similiar reports from other sites that I view. We should have known this would happen. Everyone should try to find better ways than facebook befofe tgey start charging all of us to be on it. I am ging to pick up your blog. As well! Don’t want to miss a.minute of my Mighty Texas Soap Opera Show starring Kristy!!!!

  10. All signed up and following. I, too, have a browser tab open to your blog most of the time. Love it. Thank you for the tutorials and all the inspiration.

  11. I don’t know if it is because I go to the pages tab to see bloggers and other pages, but I always see your post. Nevertheless, I subscribed. 🙂

FB not only ignores bloggers, non-profits, and others with FB pages, but they ignore the reader. ME!

  12. Well isnt this some bull!!! I really kind of like your page and have been watching to see how your kitchen comes out once you are done!! I am really disappointed in FB but I will be signing up as soon as possible!!! I will be waiting!!!

  13. I’m all signed up also! I am bummed though since I don’t check my email every day, but I do check my facebook every day. Oh well, I’ll adapt. My husband will be secretly sad though! You are the only one of my blogs he reads (although he won’t admit it, I’ve caught him too many times for denial, LOL!!). He’s tickled by your fearlessness when it comes to DIY!!

  14. Boo! Hiss! Not nice, Facebook! Now that I’ve got that out of my system, I want to let you know that I probably won’t sign up for your solution, which also sucks big time for me! Being a Canadian, any “contests” or “give-aways” will probably be invalid to Canadians (unless of course, you’re willing to fork out big bucks!). Will definitely miss your blog, as there just isn’t a similar Canadian web site/blog out there. Could you possibly post pictures to the “Pinterest” site, or will they be charging for that too? Sometimes, when decorating, I just need fresh ideas, or a picture to show my hubby and/or the experts in order to say, “See, THAT’s what I was talking about! I want to do something like that. Is it possible?”
Good luck in your future endeavors.

  15. I signed up for email notification, but I have your blog saved in my favorites and check it every day. I wouldn’t want to miss a thing. You are so entertaining! Love you.

  16. Kristi, I don’t use BlogLovin but I have added you to my NewsBlur feed so that I don’t miss a post.
Your blog is the highlight of my morning’s online reading, you’ve already inspired me to tackle a few projects myself now! Thank you!

  17. Been following you on Bloglovin ever since Google Reader went away and have not had any problems with your posts. Hopefully it counts how many of us there are for your statistics. I didn’t like it as well as Reader at first but now I like it better. Facebook changed my news feed even for friends to show me what it wants to not ask my friends posts. I think it is on its way out. And $200/post!!!?? Highway robbery. People will find your posts without the “help” of FB. Bully for you in not caving.

  18. All signed up to the new provider and just now got my confirmation email. Facebook will ultimately shoot itself in the foot when the only ones paying are large chain businesses. We see enough of that rubbish every time we turn on the tv.

I love following your adventures, Kristi. Don’t let the money grubbers drag you down. From what I see you have a massive group of fans and we all sit breathlessly waiting to see what you are getting up to next.

  19. I’m so glad that I could sign up to continue seeing your projects and ideas! Thank you so much for letting me know. I can’t believe fb is doing this. Does this mean that you’re not going to have a fb page any more, just the other now?

  20. Please don’t over run your blog with contests and giveaways. I hate those things and I don’t need to be bought off to read your blog. I would rather read about what you are doing and have a few good laughs!

    Thanks!

    1. I promise…I won’t. 🙂 I personally hate to see blog posts taken up with giveaways and contests. I just like good, quality content. (You’ll notice that I don’t do giveaways much — maybe two per year.)

That’s why I’ll just keep them to the newsletter. It’ll be a separate page that people can click and enter, but it won’t be a whole blog post devoted to a giveaway. 🙂

  21. I love your opinion. Thanks for the easy sign up for the new email delivery. Do not want to miss a thing. I keep your blog and three others on my iPad “reading list” to check on daily. Just happy to have your blog to follow. Thank you for the tutorials and all the inspiration.

  22. i see your post by keep going to you blog. i have your blog in my favorites and i look until i see you have posted. i do not like to get email’s because we just use it for our church’s prayer lists.

  23. Kristi, My wife likes your blog and it appears you have a great following. However,
I find some of your comments appalling! It seems as if we Americans have developed an entitlement attitude that impacts everything in our lives! How can we be upset because a company (facebook or google) doesn’t GIVE us something for FREE?? We actually expect that business to support our businesses for nothing? It doesn’t make sense to me!

      1. Kristi, I assumed that he meant your commenters’ comments, not your own remarks on the subject. I came back to this post because I’ve been reading articles about this issue around the web (my brother owns a small business and promotes it on Facebook, so I’m particularly interested in this), and I was curious to see what people would have to say.

It is always nice, of course, to see that people support your blog and your work; I notice a lot of constructive suggestions here, and also a lot of Facebook-shaming, and I wonder what people expect of Facebook, what kind of platform they want it to be, and how they see it supporting itself financially.

Despite a somewhat aggressive title, this is one of the more fair and interesting short articles I found that takes the opposite position from that taken by most bloggers and blog-readers: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2014/03/24/facebook_brands_and_organic_reach_why_no_one_likes_your_self_promoting_posts.html

  24. Hi Kristi ! I absolutely love your blog, but just lurk in the background never commenting….
In regards to FB – what seems to work is : you have to actually check “get notifications” on your page and we will keep getting them ! I have been getting notifications of all the “Blogs” that I have followed/liked on FB without an issue so far…. (knock on wood).

So make sure you update your post to have everyone check their “get notifications” under the “Liked” button on your page (at least that is where I can see mine on the IPad).

Good luck, and keep up the awesome job ! You are one fearless, tireless and talented lady ! 🙂

  25. Like many of your followers, I was pushed off of Google Reader when they shut that down awhile back. I chose Digg Reader as my new reader (which I’ve grown to like) and many people chose a variety of alternatives.

I noticed that your RSS feed seems to go through FeedBurner as well, so I’m assuming that’s going away too. Will you be offering a new RSS feed URL or is it only going to work through BlogLovin’s reading interface?

I really prefer to keep all my blog reading in one place (Digg) and I’m sure I’m not the only one using a reader besides BlogLovin. I hope you’ll find a solution for the rest of us RSS users.

  26. One trick that many use now, is to write something about what you wrote on your blog post, and then mention tht the link is in the comments section. then just link in the first comment. It cannot be diverted that way.

  27. I signed up but when the confirmation email came and I clicked on the link it took me back to the instructions fir signing up! I hope I am confirmed!

  28. Well, that explains the A2D facebook ‘silence’ I’ve experienced these last few days! Since I hadn’t seen a fb post from you in a while, I just came to check the blog myself and found this post and all the ones since this one, that I’ve missed. Boo facebook, indeed!

  29. Hi Kristi, Just wanted to let you know that for some reason your posts aren’t showing up on my Bloglovin’ feed either:-( Last one I received was 3 days ago (“Remodeling Depression”). Huge bummer!

  30. Might want to repost this information on your website and on facebook. I am behind with my online activity and when I tried to open an email telling me why I may not be getting your newsletters, feedburner blocked it. I had to dig on facebook to find the link in order to find out that I needed to sign up again.

People who have been missing in action, like me, may need the info again.

    Thanks!
