Decorating A Small Space

Decorating a small space can be incredibly challenging!  And I'm not just speaking in theory, but I'm actually speaking from personal experience.

About two years ago, my husband Matt and I moved from a house that was over 2000 square feet into a condo that is 834 square feet.  None of our furniture fit, so we ended up selling and giving all of it away.  Our "new" closets were tiny, so we had to rid ourselves of most of our wardrobes, only keeping those items that we really needed and wanted.  Our 42" television that fit perfectly in our house now seems like the hugest eyesore in our tiny condo living room.  Our queen-size bed fills up most of the floor space in our bedroom, leaving almost no space for any other furniture.  I've had to learn to use the stovetop as a countertop, as the kitcken is severely lacking in space.  I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture.  Actually, to call these issues "challenging" may actually be an understatement.  Sometimes, the words "infuriating" or "frustrating" seem more appropriate.

But I know that the situation is not hopeless.  People all over the world live in small places--some MUCH smaller than my own--and they manage to do it with tremendous organization and great style.  So, as I journey down this road of finding out how to live in a tiny space with my husband and my three furry children (a black lab, a calico, and a Siamese), I'll pass along things that I learn to you.  Together we'll learn how to make our small spaces organized and functional without sacrificing style.
