15 Inspiring Dining Chair Makeovers

it's amazing what a little paint and fabric can do!

I’m still working on my own dining chair makeovers, so last night, I decided to take a look at some other before and after dining chair makeovers to see what other people have done.  It really is amazing what a difference paint and/or new fabric can make to update and brighten dining chairs that are looking a bit dull and worn.

Here are a few inspiring before and after dining chair transformations that I came across… (*please pin from original sources)

  7. We redid our chairs a little over a year ago and I love them! http://www.thebloominghydrangea.com/2011/09/dining-room.html
The great thing is, it’s so easy to change out the fabric that it won’t take much to have “new” chairs again. Love some of those chairs featured above! So fun to see how you can take a basic chair and make it your own. Good luck on your chairs Kristi!

  8. I love these ideas. Thanks for including my Queen Anne chairs – I had so much fun with them. I just found two chairs on the side of the road this morning, and now, I’m inspired to do even more projects! I love the look of the white chairs with a colorful fabric, so I’ll probably try that!

  9. Love all of these! We have two wingback chairs in our dining room that are desperately in need of some new fabric (I even already have it!) but I’ve got so many other projects going on I haven’t had time to do them! Hopefully I’ll tackle ‘em soon!

  10. I was just the benefactor of a table and 6 chairs along with a buffet and china cabinet. The possibilities!!!!! Thinking about some chalk paint. It seems easy and I’m feeling like I don’t want to spend forever on the project. It’s fairly nice mahogany furniture from I’m guessing the 40′s or 50′s. I know painting is a current trend. How do you evaluate whether it’s wise to paint or not?

    • Oh wow, Diane. That’s a very good question! I’ll freely admit that I’m the very opposite of one of those “you should never paint wood” people. I’ll paint things that most people wouldn’t dream of painting if I think it’ll improve the furniture. In other words, I’m no respecter of antiques. :) I know. It’s shameful.

But even with that said, as soon as I read “it’s fairly nice mahogany furniture from…the 40′s or 50′s”, my first thought was, “Oh my! You can’t paint that!” :) I guess I determine on a case-by-case basis. I’m also not a big fan of matching sets of furniture, so when I’m working with one, I like to keep some of the wood stained, and then paint some of the pieces for a more collected look.

      Not sure if that helps…LOL

  11. It’s amazing what paint and a little imagination can do. All of these are remarkable. I especially liked the dark to light transformations.
