2011 HGTV Dream Home (and Signing Off Until The New Year)

Hello all!! I hope each of you is winding down your hectic shopping and planning, and getting ready to settle in for some relaxing and peaceful family time.

I’ll be taking all of next week off from the blog. I have projects I’d like to finish up, movies I’d like to watch, relaxing I’d like to do, and planning for the new year I’d like to accomplish. I’m hoping to bring a new, more organized format to the blog in the new year so that you’ll know exactly what kind of posts to expect on each day. In fact, my overall goal for the new year is more organization, more structure, and better time management, so I thought, why not start with the blog?!

So since today is my last blog post of the 2010, I thought I’d leave you with something really fun…the 2011 HGTV Dream Home!! I look forward to the Dream Home each year. So let’s get started…

The home in its picturesque setting.  Simply gorgeous.

Mudroom.  Heck, this thing is bigger than my kitchen!!  🙂

Entryway.  It seems a bit plain to me.  Don’t you think?

Gathering Room.  This is beautiful.  I love the colors used.
Of course, I would add fabric to those windows, just because that’s what I do!

Annex.  I like the interesting little sculptural thingy hanging above the ottoman.

Kitchen.  Do you find this impressive?  It’s just okay for me.

Dining Room.  I can say unequivocally that I dislike this room.  It looks like a boring
conference room in a boring office building.  What an opportunity missed, in my opinion.

Master Bedroom.  I like the colors used here.

Master Bathroom.  LOVE the dramatic, tall gray drapery panels used at the entrance.

Guest Bedroom.  I prefer this over the master bedroom.

Guest Bathroom.  For such a grand house, this seems a bit like an afterthought.

Master Balcony.  Oh, how I’d love to have a balcony like this some day!!

Living Area.  I love this room.  Love the barn door, love the colors.

Ski Dorm.  Very fun!!  I could imagine some good times being had here.

Ski Dorm Bathroom.  Love the light fixtures, and the red/charcoal combo.

Car Barn.  Ummm…chandeliers.  Yes, chandeliers.

Laundry Room.  Oh, what I wouldn’t give for this room!!

Terrace.  Don’t you just want to jump right into that hot tub?

There are definitely some great ideas here, but I have to admit that overall, I’m less impressed with this house than I’ve ever been with an HGTV Dream Home.  The dining room especially was just such a huge let down.  So what do you think?

Well, that’s it for me in 2010.  I’ll meet you back here in 2011!!

  1. O my o my o my…. I look forward to it too and I ALWAYS enter…. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ONE… I blogged about last years cuz I just love all the great ideas.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

  2. Kristi, you'd do so much more with that space. Really underwhelming as it is, soul-less and corporate feeling. Even the nice bits are just BIG and sleek, no character. I hate the office chairs and I'm not sure about the black window frames either.
Happy holidays. Looking forward to another year of decorating magic.

  3. Not a fan of the dining room. Agree that it looks like an uninspired conference room. Who wants that look in their home. But the laundry room is incredible. And the view from the gathering room is well-worth winning not to mention the terrace. All that said, like the rest here, I'd love to win!

  4. I like all the things of regarding home except the dining area.Hope it could have been much better.Rather than that all things are perfect.Pics are awesome!!!

  5. so sad it is now signing off until new year but so excited to check for the fresh post about Dream Home for this coming year,i know that this would be a great post and really fresh.i wish for your new project to come up great!enjoy you holiday vacation and happy new year.it's time for a good and best break for you since you'd be working throughout the year.

  6. I think that the HGTV designers were on vacation and they let the janitors design this "Dream House"! It's really a disaster. It's more a nightmare house than anyone's dream. I understand that you have to prove that you can pay the taxes on it to be able to win it…

  7. Kristi,
that home would not reflect my picture of a dream home but Thank God, we do not all like the same style or our world would be very very boring.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and you will have a great time with your family.
I wish you a Happy New Year and I'm looking forward seeing you back in the blogger world in 2011.

  9. Actually, it's nice to see a home not overdone for a change! It looks like a place people actually live in and use…too often "show" homes look like altars to decorating. The best-decorated homes should look like they haven't been "decorated", don't you think?

We Architects are sometimes guilty of the same…creating homes that are monuments to ourselves rather than gifts to the owner.

I look forward to celebrating the subtle, the restrained, and the responsible in Architecture and decorating in 2011! Cheers!

  10. DH loves that house but I'd feel like I was running a hotel .. not so fun. It would be fun to be a guest in the ski dorm with the right people!
