Disappointment (and Shedding New Light)

Well, my weekend wasn’t good. I was sick. It’s so disappointing to have awesome projects lined up, a plan in place, and then not have the energy or strength to finish even one single thing.

Oh, it wasn’t a complete bust. I did manage to drag my saw…and myself…outside for a bit to make some headway on the upholstered back for my banquette. I also managed to glue and nail a few pieces of trim on to the banquette to finish it out, and then slap on a coat of primer. But nothing…absolutely nothing…is finished. So, I’m going to give myself one more evening to work on things before I show you my progress.

In the meantime, I wanted to show you the light fixture I finally decided on for my kitchen.

It’s certainly doesn’t have a vintage feel to it, like I had originally thought I might want, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one I wanted. It’s interesting on its own, but not so eye-catching that it’ll take attention away from my apple green chandelier that will hang about seven feet away.

It also coordinates nicely with a floor lamp that I bought about four years ago, and hope to use in the living room. I don’t have a picture of my floor lamp, but it looks almost identical to this one:

I actually did get the kitchen light installed this weekend, but it came at a price–a blood blister on my finger when I pinched it in some wire cutters, and then two pretty pathetic temper tantrums when I couldn’t get the mounting screws lined up with the two tiny holes in the fixture because my ladder wasn’t tall enough for me to see what I was doing.

I should know better than to attempt projects like that when I’m sick. I’m not the most patient person under normal circumstances, but when I’m sick and feeling exhausted and things don’t go smoothly, I turn into a big ‘ole baby, and my poor Matt has to deal with my pathetic attitudes. Thank goodness he’s an incredibly patient person, and praise God I don’t get sick often!! 🙂

I promise tomorrow I’ll show you the banquette…whether it’s finished or not. For now, here’s a little preview:

As you can see, I went with “Option 3”. :~)

Hope y’all have a great day!
