What I Envision For 2027

For the last couple of years, I’ve had people repeatedly ask me, “What are you going to do when you finish your house? What will happen to the blog?” I haven’t really given it much thought because our house is far from finished. Well, it’s far from finished if I count the sunroom remodel that we want to do, expanding that room a bit and turning it into a TV room, guest bedroom, and guest bathroom.

But if I don’t count that room, the main part of our house actually is almost finished. I’m down to the last two rooms — the dining room and the storage room.

It’s hard to believe that after all of these years, those are the only two (relatively small) spaces left, and I’m doing everything I can to get them done by the end of the year.

So I have been giving a lot of thought to what next year will look like. I’ll be quite honest with you. I don’t feel comfortable at all jumping into the sunroom remodel. The economy (not just in the U.S., but the entire world) seems like it’s dangling on a cliff’s edge, so spending $80,000 on a remodel seems imprudent right now, to say the least. I’m going to need to see some rebound and some stability before I feel comfortable spending that kind of money building rooms that aren’t a necessity for us right now.

There are some big projects I want to get done, though. My workshop is the obvious one. We had that built two years ago, and it still sits there empty and without electricity. I’ve been using it as a glorified storage room since it was built, and I need to get it finished. It’s cute on the outside, but still in its original condition on the inside.

And I also want to spend a lot of time outside next year working on exterior projects. The first priority will be getting the steps built for our bedroom door.

And, of course, I want to do some landscaping as well. But those projects will have to wait until the spring and summer.

And one final big project I want to do is refinish the floors in the living room, music room, dining room, and pantry. I want all of our floors to match the light color of our bedroom suite.

But do you know what I really want to do? I want to spend a lot of time in my studio creating. Playing. Experimenting. And just having fun. I want to try out ideas that I’ve been collecting for years now. I want to do projects that have no purpose — projects that aren’t a means to an end, like finishing a particular room in our home. I just want to relax and go where my creativity takes me.

I’ve been saving creative ideas for years now. I have folders everywhere jam packed with things I want to try — sewing projects, building projects, craft projects, art projects. I have a folder on Instagram jam packed with ideas. I have a folder on Facebook. My phone is filled with photos of ideas that I’ve saved. I have a folder on my laptop filled with ideas.

I just want to have fun. No deadlines. No end goal hanging over my head. No stress of having to quickly finish an art project so that I can get a room finished. I just want the freedom of creating for the purpose of creating.

Here’s just a little glimpse at a tiny fraction of the things I have saved in my Instagram “Try This” folder…

So it’s very possible that 2027 may be the first year in a very long time that I don’t start off the year with a long “Master List of Home Goals”. I do have those few home projects and goals that I mentioned, but other than that, 2027 might just be a free-for-all creative extravaganza. The more I think about it, the more excited I get about the possibility.

    1. Oh, yes! I definitely want to do that! I keep taking pictures of real rocks and boulders when I’m out and about in town so I can use those as inspiration when I make my own. 😀

  1. Isn’t it crazy how many project ideas rest in our folders and how little (at least in comparison to that abundance) we realise? There are quite a few among your pictures that I have on Pinterest boards, too. So I really look forward to watching you using your inimical style and way to tackle DIY and learn how to do them :)!! In addition, all the things you plan to do like your workshop and outdoor projects are really interesting, too, so I’m looking forward to next year’s blog for sure!
