I’m Inspired!! (Above-The-Sink Artwork For My Kitchen)

One of the things on my “to do” list is to find and/or make artwork for the area above my kitchen sink. In fact, I’ve had two empty frames just sitting there for about three weeks now, hoping they would inspire creativity.

But after after three weeks…nothing. Zilch.

Then I came across something that made me realize that perhaps I’ve been living under a rock–the world of “Free Printables”.  Seriously, why am I just now delving into this world of “free printables”?  It wasn’t until about a week ago that I just happened upon a site called The Graphics Fairy that I truly understood what little gems these things are, and the wide range of projects that can be done with them.

Anyway, long story short, had I not spent an hour or so perusing The Graphics Fairy and discovering this world of “free printables”, I probably wouldn’t have paid any attention whatsoever when someone posted on Facebook just a couple of days ago a link to a “free printable” over on Simple As That, which is perfect for my kitchen!!

I love that! I love the colors. Love the quote. It’s perfect!!

Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with it. Just frame it? Decoupage it? Since I’ve had those two frames sitting there for three weeks now, I’m realizing that I might not want something framed above my sink. Whatever goes there needs to be easy to clean, because I’m a messy dish washer!!

So have you already discovered this world of “free printables”? Have you used any for projects around your home? What are your favorite sites for free printables?

  1. You know I have heard of these free printables, but I have not seen them myself. I will have to take a look.

  2. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Just found the images I had been looking for to finish a project I started forever ago. My husband will be shocked if I actually finish this project.

  3. Love it! I've recently found the free printables. We printed off subway art then framed it for our children's Sunday school teachers. They were cute, unique & affordable!

  4. Thanks for mentioning my site, I'm so glad you had fun checking out my images and printables!

  5. There are sooooo many free printables out there. I love this one with the rainbow colors….

  6. I love the free printable and I love the graphic fairy blog too! I always love what I see and then go crazy trying to figure out what to do with all of them. I like the idea of art above your sink, but I go a little crazy not having a window above my sink. What if you incorporated a mirror, made to look like a window, and then put the print on top? Does that make sense? That way you wouldn't feel like you were up against a wall and yet you wouldn't have to stare at yourself while doing dishes. Just a thought.

  7. I love the printable you hang above your kitchen sink, good you realized the best place where to hang it. The light actually gave more drama to it that highlighted more on the colorful quotes. love it! Just be careful, it might get wet of consistent washing.

  8. I have never heard of free printables before, thank you so much for linking them! Lately it seems everything is going to royalty or membership fees when it comes to graphics. :/

It might be interesting to decoupage the graphic, and then put up a [easy to clean] frame around it, or a decorative tile border to set it off a bit more.

  9. I think you should do it like you did the sign in your eating area. It is beautiful. You could do a great job on this, too. Definitely don't think you should print it and frame it under glass since it will be over the sink. If water splashes on it and runs down between the glass and frame, then the print will circle.

  10. Heading over to the Free Printables website right now! Another great idea from you!

  11. thank you so much for linking to my rainbow printable…so happy you love it as much as I do. 🙂 Rebecca

  13. I've been creating art for the wall decor business for many years and got tired of manufacturers telling me what to design. So I started my own company and website. You should check out prints of my artwork. They're inexpensive and might give you some inspiration. I'd also would love to hear what you've been looking for and can't find out there.

  14. Thank you. I have the same dilemma as you. I had never heard of the printables, I'll have to take a look!

  16. It's called Hallowed Hush.  It's a Behr color (from Home Depot), that I had color matched in Kelly Moore interior oil-based paint in a satin finish.
