Inspiring Design:: Jean Alan

Last Updated on December 28, 2015 by Kristi Linauer

Today’s inspiring designs come from Chicago-based interior designer Jean Alan. Jean started out as a set designer in the film industry 30 years ago. Then in 1994, she started her interior design company with her daughter, Ruthie.

Together, they create rooms that span many different design styles, but my favorites are their more traditional/transitional rooms.

I really like this art wall.  It seems perfectly imperfect in its arrangement.

Don’t you just love a white kitchen with dark hardwood floors?!

What a beautiful (entry?) hall.  Love the wallpaper!!

Another beautiful use of wallpaper that isn’t too overpowering.

Love these soothing spa-like colors.

Are you feeling inspired?  You can see more of Jean’s designs on her website.

    You have great taste. Thanks for sharing her ideas. Hopefully in my next house I will be able to achieve some of those transitional looks.

    I know that wallpaper is making a big comeback, but for myself: NEVER AGAIN! They can promise it's strippable all they want – I won't be fooled again!

    I love the last one where the toilet tissue looks like it's an artistic sculptural display!

    More traditional than my taste,but gorgeous nonetheless.

    What I like best about the photos you post is that the designs can be traditional or modern. 🙂

    Ack! I love the chandi in the entry/hall photo! It would be perfect for my FR. I am sure it would cost as much as all of the furnishing in that room though. Thanks for the great inspiration pics!

    I love that white kitchen! I think I've told you before that we're getting ready to (possibly) purchase a real fixer upper type house and my plan if we get it is to paint the kitchen cabinets white!
