It’s Starting To Look Like An Actual Bedroom

I got the bedroom all cleaned up yesterday. With all of the tools put away, all of the trash bagged up and taken out, and the floor thoroughly cleaned, I was so excited to finally bring in the area rug, bedside tables, and headboard fabric.

The first thing I did when the rug was in place was breathe a huge sigh of relief. I had been nervous that the orange was going to be too muted orange or burnt orange and wouldn’t be able to hold its own against the bold colors in my walk-in closet and the bold colors that will go in the foyer.

Thankfully, there was nothing to worry about. The rug was way more vibrant that I remembered. Keep in mind that the upper wall color is a stand in for the grasscloth wallpaper.

The rug size is just perfect. It’s a 9′ x 12′, and the room is just under 15′ wide.

One thing I realized last night is that in my mind, I had been planning on putting two drapery panels on each one of the windows on the headboard wall. In fact, I purchased enough fabric to do two panels on each of those windows. But in my mock up, I only put one panel on each window.

I not only bought enough fabric for two panels per window, but I bought enough lining for two panels per window, and enough trim for two panels per window, and enough drapery rings for two panels per window. And when ordering that stuff, for some reason, I never thought to refer back to my mockup picture to see what, exactly, I had planned. 😀 Oh well. Since I have the extra fabric, I might go ahead and make the panels for these windows 1.5 widths so that they’ll be the same fullness as the panels that will go on the door.

I don’t have a whole lot of room in those corners for a lot of fabric, but I think it’ll work.

I did get the outlet covers on, but as you can see, I didn’t have time to paint them yet. 😀 Don’t worry. I won’t have striped outlet covers in the finished room.

Okay, so here is a wide angle view of the area rug, bedside tables, and headboard fabric. The wall color is looking a little bright. I’m hoping the grasscloth wallpaper will appear deeper in color.

And now I can hopefully pick out a color for the dresser. You can see that there are several browns, tans, and even a greige color in the rug.

And there are also some browns and tans in the headboard fabric.

I do like the idea of painting the dresser a tan or greige color from the rug or fabric, but part of me thinks that’s way too tame for me. Perhaps I need to get the headboard made first, and then even get the draperies made and installed, and then I’ll be able to see if that side of the room needs a color that’s tame or dramatic. It might be too soon to make that decision.

And I could also wait for my recliner to get here. I was hoping it would be here by now, but the latest it’s supposed to arrive is November 11.

Anyway, it’s fun to finally see some pretty stuff in here.

And Felicity seems to approve as well. 🙂

  1. This is looking great! What about using a stain for the dresser? Teal stain could be different enough, yet the same?

  2. I bet you were so happy to be able to bring in pieces that will be permanently part of your bedroom. I think waiting till more is finished before you decide on dresser paint color
It looks really nice so far. Felicity agrees.

  3. I think the dresser should be the same wood color as the night stands and bedframe. You have plenty of color already. It’s going to be so beautiful.

  4. I’m not sure which method is a priority or your mom will chime in, but maybe try different colors in that range. I know you didn’t want to repeat the many paint samples from the closet. But to see where it goes while you do the fabric part. Sherwin Williams does free consults on colors for exteriors, I don’t know if that extends to interiors. I was ready to repeat an old exterior color, I didn’t like. Mostly to not hold up the siding contractor. SW suggested colors for each street in our neighborhood, one was highlighter-like no, but a blue was unexpectedly perfect. Or maybe while out, see if there’s an opps paint and use that as a first try on some foam board to identify undertones to work with.

  5. It’s all starting to come together; I love it when a plan starts to do that. I am so happy that your number one critic was making her approval known. Everything looks great. You are wise to wait on a few things to see what will be needed with the dresser.
Cheers to you, Matt and the Fur Connoisseur’s!

  6. Looking at the picture of the bed and end tables and your dresser will be across from it, I think it would look great to match the color of the headboard.

  7. Why not use the extra fabric from the window panels on the bench in the foyer? That might tie the two rooms together.

  8. Oh my, I love the rug and the direction you are going! I love color, but mainly in accessories, artwork, and such, yet I still love what you do. Everyone should do what they love in their home, as to me my home is a haven, and I like my stuff! I have too much stuff and I like it! Every home should reflect the personality of the owner…so much more interesting!

    1. No. I can’t find anyone in the area to install grasscloth wallpaper. 😫 And I really don’t want to use anyone who would have to drive from Austin or Dallas. So I guess it’ll be up to me to install it.

  9. Oh my goodness! I simply love the fabric for your headboard – it’s very pretty. With any left over, could you use it on your bench in your foyer? It really is beautiful.

  10. LOL at least two of your outlet covers match the rug! Looks so perfect. What does Matt think of it? He must be so happy to see it almost finished. When do you start the wallpaper?

  11. Do you still have to clear coat or whatever is next to the floor, or can you use it as is? I am so glad you sanded the floor down to the light color. I love it. What color is griege? Haven’t heard that word before.

  12. I can’t remember if you were planning on putting drapery panels on the sides of the French doors in your foyer. Could the extra fabric be used for those?

    1. Great thought Paige! There may just be too much of it for the windows in the bedroom as they’re so close to the corners.

  13. LOVE. For the windows – how about a continuous rod across both windows and over the bed? Do a single panel for each window and then when the curtains are open you can put the panels behind the bed as a lovely backdrop. That removes all issues with wondering whether the stacked panels will fit in the corners without covering glass panes.

  14. I don’t think greige or tan would be the best option for the dresser in front of the white wainscoting and on top of the wood floor. I like the mossy green in the headboard fabric. It looks beautiful next to the teal and coral in the fabric and would be lovely against the grass cloth, wainscoting and wood floor.

  15. ha ha! long time follower and lover of all you do …
100% guaranteed if you paint anything greige you will be repainting it 🙂
do not be tempted, you will hate it 😉
def wait for chair and other elements then decide on colour.
    it’s looking amazing xx
