Updated Bedroom Curtains — This Was The Right Decision
I’m still working on the bedroom curtains, so unfortunately, I won’t be ending this year on the blog with this big project marked off of my “to do” list. But I did get one panel finished to the point that we can compare the original version and this new version and see the difference.
When I started making these draperies, I decided to wrap the trim around the edge of the leading edge of each panel. For some reason, I thought using the full width of the trim would be too much. But as I shared earlier this week, once the first panel was almost finished and I hung it up to pin the hem, I wasn’t really pleased with the look of the wrapped trim.

So yesterday, I did a whole lot of ripping out seams and removing trim. Then I basically started over. I only got one panel to the point that it was ready to hang, with the pleats finished, so that I can pin in the hem. And as soon as I stepped back to take a look, I breathed a sigh of relief. Being able to see the full width of the trim looks so much better to my eye. It has a much more polished and professional look to it.

And contrary to my original concern, I don’t think it’s too bold at all. It definitely helps that I coffee-dyed the trim to tone it down a bit. Had I kept it in its original brighter orange color, I think it might have been too bold. But with its new toned down colors, I love it.

So this is where I’m leaving things for this year. That doesn’t mean that I won’t work on the bedroom at all over the next two weeks. In fact, I fully plan to continue working on the bedroom over the next two weeks. The difference is that I won’t put any pressure on myself to get things done daily. If I want to take a whole day off to read and watch movies with Matt, that’s what I’ll do. But if I feel inspired to make an upholstered headboard, I’ll do that. And then I’ll meet y’all back here on Monday, January 5th, and we’ll pick up right where we left off.
I am a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get the bedroom suite completely finished by the end of this year. But at the same time, I’m very proud of the work that I did get accomplished. This was a huge project, so I’m not going to beat myself up for it taking a little longer than I had anticipated. Instead, I’m going to end this year looking back at how far I’ve come.
This room has come a long way! It went from this…

To this…

To this…

And of course, there were a thousand steps taken to get from Point A to Point B, and so many of you have followed every step of the way. So thank you for following along on this journey, for all of your input along the way, for commiserating with me on the failures, and for celebrating the victories with me. It’s been a fun year, and I look forward to picking up right where we left off in the New Year. I’ll be back tomorrow for one final post of 2025 as we take a final look at everything I accomplished this year, and we’ll see how I did on my 2025 Master List of Home Goals.

Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 and Happy New Year, have a wonderful vacation 💗
I hope that you and Matt enjoy your (well-deserved) vacation!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!
Thank you for all that you share and have a great holiday!
You’ve done a fabulous job, and I’ve loved watching your progress and enjoyed your amazing skills. Merry Christmas to you, Matt and the furbabies, and a Happy 2026!
YES!!! The drapery panel looks much better with the full width of trim stitched with a strip of teal velvet showing. The trim is beautiful and I like how the orange breaks up the teal velvet and grass cloth. I’m glad that you are happy with the results. I hope you don’t beat yourself up for not completing everything on your list for this year. Sometimes unanticipated problems crop up along the way. When I find myself in a quandary it’s best to step back for a minute and mull things over in my head before rushing into a decision even if it meas delaying the project. Have a wonderful holiday season!
Well, you were right again. I was okay with the trim being wrapped around the panel, but now that you’ve done it with the whole width, I see why YOU are the professional designer, lol. It does look so much nicer.
May you and Matt and your furry family have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to a prosperous and Happy New Year!
Enjoy the holidays you certainly have earned the rest. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family. Pet the cats, snuggle with Cooper, and get stuck in with some great movie watching with Matt.
Enjoy your holiday time off! I hope you and Matt will be able to get outdoors and do a bit of exploring around! Or just relaxing in some sunshine, if that’s your thing! I’m sure there are things in Waco to do that you haven’t done, or maybe haven’t done in a long while! Enjoy!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday! Looking forward to seeing more from you in the new year.
Look very classy. Perfect!
Another year to be proud of!
See you in the New Year, all the best to you and your family.
Have a wonderful and relaxing holiday season with Matt and family. I admire you and your work for so many reasons and appreciate your transparency and the realistic view of DIY you present, while you support your sweet husband through such a challenging illness. Prayers for you both!
The wide trim is perfect! Sorry you had to stitch rip but honestly, can you call yourself a craft sewer, drapery maker, quilter if you don’t have stock in a stitch ripper company? I know I do. 😉 Enjoy your well deserved break.
The full width of the trim is ! You have accomplished so much this year, and you certainly deserve a long, relaxing, and restful break. No worries, we will be here for you when you return. Many blessings for a wonderful Christmas break! See you in 2026!
Your bedroom looks amazing and you should pat yourself on the back for a job well done! Enjoy your Christmas holiday.
You are an inspiration to so many. I wish you, Matt, and your family a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Have a merry Christmas! You are a blessing!
Lovely! Great work on this room and applause to you! (Yes, the wide trim is fine, and the overall look is much better.) I am still so in love with that rich grasscloth, ahhhhh <3
I have followed you for many years and am always amazed at how much you accomplish. Please in the coming year remember this statement you made “The difference is that I won’t put any pressure on myself to get things done daily. If I want to take a whole day off to read and watch movies with Matt, that’s what I’ll do. But if I feel inspired to make an upholstered headboard, I’ll do that. coming year”. Give yourself grace to rest, enjoy life and spend quality time with family and friends.
This is amazifying (is that a word?)😁😁It turned out so much better than even I envisioned. Just beautiful Kristi. Have a good rest, and do whatever makes your heart sing while you’re enjoying the holidays with Matt and the rest of your family. Fur babies as well. 😄 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. See you on the 5th.
Merry Christmas and a Happy & Safe New Year.
The trim is now a complment to the drapery, I do have question though, why the white sheers? Too me they distract from the shade, the drape and the trim, could just be me, I am wondering. Anyway, you are an awesome DYIer and Interior designer. I love 98% of all you have done. That’s pretty good for this 74 year old set in her ways. haha
Have a wonderful bit of downtime and Happy Holidays to the fur babies and of course you, Kristi and Matt.
I like the full width of the trim as well. Things are shaping up and I can’t wait to see the finished room next year. I’m glad you’re giving yourself a 2 week staycation. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and Matt.
If I may ask, are your semi-sheers custom or off the shelf? If off the shelf, will you please provide a link?
Never mind, I found your link from almost 4 years ago and they’re still available. Here it is in case anyone else is interested.

Thank you for all the creativity, beauty and inspiration this year! Every time I think you can’t outdo your last project you prove me wrong! I go back to pour over your finished closet gallery often just to soak it all in. Have a wonderful restful break! Can’t wait for what’s next!
That punch of coral on the drapes really brings the carpet color up into the space so nicely! Excellent call!
Take as much time as you need to come back and be your best instead of feeling so worn out. Those of us that have followed for a long time will be here when you get back.
I hope you have a great Christmas and New Years and take the time to do some fun and/or relaxing things by yourself and with Matt.
Happy Holidays!
