Bedroom And Foyer Grasscloth Wallpaper Progress (It’s So Good!!)
I continued working on the installation of the grasscloth wallpaper in the bedroom and foyer over the weekend, and while I didn’t get it finished, I’m absolutely thrilled with how it’s turning out. I’ve never (properly) installed grasscloth wallpaper before, so I’m trying to work diligently while also not getting into too much of a hurry so that I don’t make mistakes. So far, that has paid off. I won’t say that I’ve done the job perfectly, but I’m really excited about how it’s turning out.
On Friday, I shared that I was a little bit disappointed because one piece in particular was appearing darker than the rest.

That kind of took the wind out of my sails right at the outset of the project, but when I got back to work on Friday afternoon, I decided to ignore that, push forward, and do my best not to get distracted by the imperfections. After all, this is grasscloth wallpaper, and part of the beauty of grasscloth wallpaper is the imperfect and natural appearance of it.
I’m so glad that I made that decision not to obsess over the imperfections because the more I got done, the more beautiful everything started to look.

I can’t even express how much I love this deep, rich, beautiful teal. I’ve wanted grasscloth wallpaper for so long, and to have these gorgeous walls in this amazing color in our bedroom is an absolute dream.

There’s just something almost magical about grasscloth, in my opinion. It adds such gorgeous texture and depth that you can never achieve with a solid paint color.

I got three of the bedroom walls completely finished — the headboard wall, the exterior door wall, and the dresser wall.

And then I finished up my weekend work by starting on the wall with the bathroom door. I don’t know why, but the first piece that wraps around the bathroom door on the left side was the most challenging piece so far. It was only a narrow sliver of wallpaper, about five inches wide, on the left side of the trim. And getting that piece of wallpaper to bend and fold next to the trim without shifting and pulling away from the previous piece seemed almost impossible. I finally got it done, and that took all the patience I had for the day. So that’s where I stopped last night.

Once I get that next piece to the right of the doorway, the rest of that wall will be smooth sailing.

This one piece on this wall that had to be cut around the breaker box was also a bit of a challenge. The areas just around the breaker box didn’t want to lie flat, so it took a few tried. But once I got that piece on, the rest was easy.

And then this is as far as I got into the foyer. I had run out of patience to do any more challenging areas, so I needed to wait until I had rested and recharged before tackling that piece around the closet doorway.

But y’all. Seriously. Just look how gorgeous it is! Even with that one piece appearing darker, which I’m convinced is just because of the lighting, I couldn’t be happier with how this is turning out.

I’m not quite sure what to do with the breaker box cover. I might try to cover it with grasscloth or I might try to find a deep teal spray paint. Either way, it’ll be covered, so the breaker box won’t show in the finished room.

I’m so glad that I went with the decision to carry the grasscloth and wainscoting into the foyer. If you’ll remember, my original plan way back at the beginning was to separate the two areas and treat them differently. But this is going to be so much better, and it makes the whole room look and feel so much bigger and more open.

And I was so relieved to see that the wall that was so wavy, and that required so much mudding and sanding to get it somewhat smooth and flat, turned out looking great once the grasscloth was up.

I’m not sure if I can get this done today, but I’m sure going to try. Once I get that other piece around the bathroom door, the rest of that long bedroom wall will be pretty quick and easy. And then that just leaves the foyer.

The foyer isn’t very big, so while I have high hopes that I can get it done today, I’m also trying to be realistic. It’s a small area with a lot of doorways, and working around doorways will certainly slow me down. But I’m going to give it my best try. I’d LOVE to be able to show up tomorrow with finished wallpapered walls!!

I love it! The imperfections add character!
Lovely !
The grasscloth is beautiful. I love the deep, rich color. I consider the variations in color as part of the character of a natural fiber.
It looks perfectly imperfect! Beautiful!
Looks great! My mom put up grass cloth wallpaper in our basement years ago and I always loved it – gave a great texture and depth to the walls. I think that the first darker panel will fade into the rest of your room as you put your furniture in there and get the rest of the pieces placed in the room. It will be interesting to see how the look of that panel changes as you finish up the room.
The grasscloth is indeed gorgeous, Kristi! Well done!
Oh my, that is looking so wonderful! And I love the green color of the dresser against the grass cloth <3
Gorgeous!!!
Oh my! That grasscloth is stunning! Beautiful job. You are going to have the most gorgeous bedroom sanctuary!
That is stunning! The color is gorgeous.
Oh wow! I LOVE it!
It’s beautiful! And that green dresser is just perfect!
Have you taped out the dimensions for your bed, your recliner and the dresser on the floor to visualize how much room you will have to maneuver around everything once it is all in place? It appears that there are some pretty tight spots, but perhaps in real life it will be just fine.
Yes, i have. There’s plenty of room.
I hang a piece of art over my electrical box. Covers completely and easy to take down if you need to access it. It looks like you would have the room in that corner.
I was just about to recommend the same thing! That’d be the easiest way to disguise it. Our breaker box juts out from the wall like an inch and a half, so I was forced to make a custom chunky canvas frame artwork to hang over its depth.
I was thinking on that darker paper hang, didn’t you initially use a different glue? Could that have impacted the color hue?
Kristi, we have a breaker box (too expensive and difficult to move somewhere else) on the wall in our den by our entertainment area (TV, etc.).
I found a nice quilted table runner on Etsy to cover it and velcroed it on the box door. It looks like a nice wall hanging and I’ve gotten many compliments on it. People are always surprised to find out what it’s hiding. “Why I had no idea that was behind there! I just noticed the pretty wall hanging!”
It’s amaaaaaazing. Just drooling over here. Such a velvety depth of texture and color!!
It is beautiful, and I too love the dresser color with that grass cloth. Perfecto !
GORGEOUS!!!
Wow! This is going to be so beautiful!
Everything looks so good. Grasscloth is beautiful and you have done a beautiful job.
I just love grass cloth. And this looks fabulous!
I. AM. AMAZED. WOW. Wow. wow. It absolutely looks fabulous. Your taste and instincts were right on the money again. And the green on the dresser is just right. Gosh, I never thought much of grasscloth, but you’ve shown me a whole new wallcovering! And to think that you are doing it all yourself – SMH. Can’t say enough about it.
Love the grass cloth and the green dresser. You are going to have a beautiful bedroom suite. ❤️
You could do a painted strie’ for the electrical box cover. It’s all looking very chic!
Kristi, I love, love, love the grass cloth walls. Dreamy, luxurious, ……and all the good descriptive words you could think of. Great job!
