Chandelier Options For My Closet Island (And Of Course, My Favorite Costs $2300!)

I have expensive taste. It never fails that if I have several items to choose from, with all of the prices hidden from sight, I’ll almost always choose the most expensive item. It happens over and over and over again. That’s one reason I started DIYing many years (okay…decades) ago. I decided that if I couldn’t afford the things I wanted, maybe I could make them for a fraction of the price.

And that’s where I’ve found myself in my search for the perfect chandelier to go above the island in my future walk-in closet. I know y’all are probably going to get sick of this closet (if you haven’t already) before I even get started on it. But I’ve never had a decent walk-in closet before, and I would be embarrassed to tell you how much time of each day I spend dreaming about and planning this closet. But as anxious and excited as I am to make this closet a reality, I won’t start on it until I have all of the details worked out, especially in regards to how the cabinets and drawers will be arranged. I’m almost have it, but I’m not quite there yet.

While I’m still working out those details, these fun, decorative touches, like mirrors, wallpaper, and lights, are fun to think about as well. I’ve already shown you the modified floor plan, but just in case you missed it, this will be the layout of the closet/laundry area.

And a couple of days ago, I showed you my final wallpaper selection, as well as the mirror I bought to go on the section that will be wallpapered. If you look at the floor plan above, the wallpaper and mirror will go in the middle section on the right side of the closet area, where I’ll have drawers up to about 34 inches, a countertop on top, and then an open area with the wallpaper and mirror. You can see more details of this wallpaper in this post, but here’s a look at both.

So with those selections made, I wanted to purchase a really pretty chandelier or pendant light to go above the center island. I really had no idea what I wanted, so I was pretty open-minded about it when I started my search. I started out looking for a simple but pretty chandelier. The first one I saved to my “walk-in closet chandelier options” file was this one from Wayfair (affiliate link).

It’s simple, pretty, transitional in style, and brass. It’s definitely my style for a general use kind of chandelier. But this closet is mostly going to be mine. This is an area where I can kind of have a little fun and do something not so “general use“, if you know what I mean. So I started looking for something geared a little more towards my very specific taste. I wanted something eye-catching, fun, and maybe floral-inspired (because, if you know me at all, you know I’d drench my whole house in flowers, birds, and trees, if left to my own devises).

So with that goal in mind, the first one I considered was this Possini Flower Chandelier (affiliate link).

This light has been around for many years, and I’ve loved it since the first time I saw it. But the one thing that has held me back from buying it (and I’ve considered it for many different uses over the years) is that I’m pretty IKEA used to sell this light or a similar version of it. And I don’t really want my closet to look like IKEA. I don’t have anything against IKEA. I just don’t want it to be an overtly IKEA closet. I do love that light, though. I’d love to find a use for it eventually, but just not front and center in my walk-in closet.

Sticking with that eye-catching floral theme, I also considered this beaded chandelier from Wayfair (affiliate link). It’s not exactly floral, but it reminds me of vines with berries. And it’s sparkly, which I love. And best of all, the price was really good at just under $140. Also, the beads are glass and not plastic. There are lots of photos uploaded by customers in their reviews, and it’s so pretty in all of them.

That light is like a Sputnik (which I love) covered in vines and berries (which I love). It’s the best of both worlds all in one light. I came very close to clicking that “Add To Cart” button on that one.

And then the last one I had saved in my “walk-in closet chandelier options” file was this chandelier from Wayfair.

Three things held me back from this one. First, I think the gold is a little too gold. Second, I think it’s too big for my walk-in closet. The island will only be 24 inches wide, and this light is almost 24 inches wide. I think it might be a bit much for that space. I want something eye-catching and unique but not overpowering. I think this one would be better suited above a dining table. And third, I HATE that kind of ceiling canopy. It’s just a personal preference, but I can’t stand the way those canopies look.

And then it happened. I found THE PERFECT light that not only suits my taste, but goes so well with the mirror and the wallpaper and the whole vision I have for that room. It’s perfect in every way…except for the price. This light from Wayfair is $2300 (affiliate link). I mean…of course it is. Because why wouldn’t the most perfect chandelier ever created to suit my taste be ridiculously out of my price range?

But once I laid eyes on the most perfect chandelier for my walk-in closet, nothing else would do. I’ve searched. I really did try to find something else that looks similar in my price range. Nothing of the sort exists. But now that I’ve seen this one, I know I won’t be satisfied with anything else.

So, does that mean I’ll be spending $2300 on a chandelier? Of course not. 😀 I think y’all know me better than that, and I think y’all know what this means. There is a DIY chandelier for my walk-in closet in my future. This is the vision. This is the goal. Now I just have to figure out how to get that look on a budget. I’m already devising a plan, and I won’t stop until I have something similar that fits my budget.

The good news is that I’m pretty sure I can create something similar on a reasonable budget, and I’m almost 100% certain I can do it in far less time than it took me to make the tiered light for my studio.

That one was a doozy. I thought I’d never get that one finished, and in fact, I almost gave up about halfway through. I don’t want to ever do that again.

But I think I can make a flower chandelier in much less time. And I think it’ll be the perfect addition to this vision I have for this room.

Update: I should note that this won’t be the only light in the room. I’ll also be adding plenty of recessed lights and/or lighting on the cabinets.

  1. Kristy, I’d be worried about shadows and brightness of the light fixture, because it looks like it could cast a lot of shadows, and in my closet I like a bright light so that I can clearly see color differences in choosing my clothes. Whatever you decide, I’m sure it will be beautiful.

  2. Have you considered a vintage find? Some of the best lighting (in my opinion) is vintage. They are usually extremely well made, and you aren’t going to see a million of them!

    1. Agreed!
Cheaper, and just ginger it up to add your particular flair and chosen colour, and you will have a original light fitting made exactly to your taste.
      Sorted!

    2. I just don’t know where to find good vintage lighting in Waco. I see other people with their amazing vintage finds, but I almost feel like you have to live in (or go to) a big city to find the really good stuff. But if (when) I make this one, I’ll be starting with a used chandelier, probably one I find at ReStore or somewhere like that.

      1. I love the shape of the floral light; but was thinking maybe a touch of silver on it would be pretty.

That said, there is a good architectural salvage place in Fort Worth that I go to sometimes which carries many vintage fixtures.

  3. The chandelier you like best is 34″ high. If you have 8 ft. ceilings and an island of 30-35″ high you really don’t have enough space to have a chandelier that high. The other thing that I immediately thought of is how much dust that chandelier would collect. I like the first chandelier best, and I’m not one who usually chooses clean contemporary lines. I think it would allow your wallpaper and gorgeous mirror to be the stars of the closet.

  4. The moment I saw this, I thought of your testing spoon lamp and thought: Kristi can do that! So I’m curious how you are going to proceed, because this for once is a project where I have ideas about how to do it (thanks to watching your spoon projects so far :)). I’m looking forward to the process!

    1. My mind was going towards using air-dry clay for the flowers. But those flower petals are shaped like tasting spoons! And I have plenty of those left over! Wow, that would be so much easier.

  5. Go to TEMU site and search on chandeliers, you will find several similar to what you posted at about 1/3 of the cost. You may even find one you can DIY modify to be exactly what you need.

I know that many folks on this site would say don’t buy directly from China, but look at many of the US sites and you will find exact product and it is made in China, just exported to US middleman.

    1. My issue with TEMU isn’t the “made in China” part, since it seems like almost all of our goods are made in China these days. My issue is that I’ve heard too many stories from people who ordered something, and what they actually received was completely different. I have no personal experience ordering from there, but from what I’ve heard, they do not provide quality goods, and their product listings are very misleading and outright deceptive at times.

      1. Temu is trash Between my daughter and myself the things we’ve ordered from clothing, furniture, and home goods all of it is a you get what you pay for. I ordered three chairs, one recliner, and two club chairs, all three over six months, I sat in one of the club chairs one day and no more than got my bottom in it, and bang the whole left side broke, don’t anyone order from them, please.

        1. Sorry you got bad products. I have had the opposite experience, but my items have not been furniture or such, mostly household items such as filters for ice maker, etc.

          1. I agree. I buy craft items, a few shirts, and some odds and ends. I definitely would not order furniture or anything that would be hard to return. I have had no problems, especially since you can return one item in each order, and usually you can just throw it out if it is crap or broken on delivery. I read every description carefully, and reviews just in case too. If something comes totally wrong, I just send pictures and they refund…sometimes sending the label for a return. I’ve heard people complain about not getting their order…has never happened, and they are very accurate as well, as I check/count everything. I won’t order for much longer, but I haven’t had any problems either.

  6. Hi……this type of situation is sooooo me too…find the perfect thing only to be out of my budget. And like you said, prices hidden too!!!!! One of the (many) reasons I love following you is you will find a way to have what u want by diying it!!! I try to do the same, sometimes successful, sometimes not so much!!!! Keep those diy projects coming for those of us that are tastes dont match our budget….lol.

  7. I think you should reconsider DIYing the chandelier. IMHO, doing a white chandelier will distract from the contrast of the mirror/wallpaper setup. I think you’d be far better off with the Shugar Crystal Beaded Chandelier from Wayfair.

  8. I have the same problem I always pick out the priciest one. My hubs used to say he didn’t know why I married a poor guy (which he wasn’t, just not wealthy) with my expensive taste. I was a bargain hunter though I would look near and far shop to shop to either find that item or one so close but affordable. It is a real heartbreaker that we women are not born wealthy and beautiful.Hahaha

  9. It really *is* the perfect light compliment for your other decor elements going into the walk-in closet! I’ve no doubt you’re going to make something equally stunning.

My fav is the Dandelion Puff Ball light! I’m over the moon about it, and so wish I had somewhere to place it.

  10. I’m sorry to take a step backwards, but I’m still concerned about the separation of the laundry area from your closet. Will you still have a way to close off the laundry area and provide extra ventilation?

You may want to scour thrift and antique stores for chandeliers. There are some amazing light fixtures out there without spending $$$$.

  11. I love the glass bead one from wayfair……so pretty! There is also something about it that feels like it would be related to the other lights you have used.

  12. Didn’t you buy something similar for your bathroom? The wall sconces I mean, there was two expensive ones and then you found some cheap ones? Or am I remembering wrong?

  13. I love the Flora lights in both white and gold but like you, they speak to my champagne tastes and not my beer budget. I look forward to seeing the light you make.

  14. Sorry, but that chandy doesn’t look like $2300 to me. I like the Sputnik looking one with the glass beading much better. I think the one you covet reminds me of some chandeliers from the ’70’s, that were painted in pastel colors, not that that’s a bad thing, just not worth that kind of moolah! I personally would go more simple, so as not to take away from the mirror and wallpaper. I think a light that just creates a glow in the center of the island counter (like a jewelry store does) would be stunning, like a spotlight! (LED Counter Light,Commercial Lighting Jewelry Store,LED Focus Spotlight)

  15. A lot of those are pretty but boy I wouldn’t want to dust them!
Hope you find a less expensive alternative to your dream one.

    1. That looks like the same light in a smaller version. I love it! But it’s still way more than what I’d pay for a light for a walk-in closet. I love the light, but that’s still way out of my price range.

  16. Please take a look at Danika Herrick on insta. She has a highlight called star light that shows her taking a sputnik style chandy and turning it into a work of art. I think you could easily do flowers instead of stars…Stray Dog might provide you with good inspo as well. Loving the journey!

  17. I came back to look at this today, after reading your 5.4.25 post about lighting.
The chandelier you chose and are going to remake into this type is simply brilliant in design and will be lovely.
I love what you’re doing with the closet, with your house, your home.
I am not obsessed with closets, but they’re my fave organization project every single time. In my defense, as a child my sister and I shared a room with no closet for about 5 years (there was an extra closet across the hall in our parents’ room for our use) and apparently it permanently affected my brain! So I am rather avidly following these posts (altho I read your blog daily the closet build posts are like a magnet!).
We recently downsized into a trad ranch style home with 1940s closets. I have too many clothes and shoes and purses (even after dozens of trips to rehome stuff). We put together 5 open hanging/shelf units from wayfair and arranged them with 2 chests of drawers, 2 stacked drawers that go inside a closet (rather than sitting out in the room the way I’m using them), a standing chest for jewelry and a small chair. It looks so good and I’m very happy with the space. But yours? Oh, my!♡
