Closing The Doors On Addicted 2 Decorating (and Life After Blogging)

Friends, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that I’ll be closing the doors on Addicted 2 Decorating at the end of this month.

Believe me, this wasn’t a decision I made lightly.  In fact, I’ve been contemplating it since the end of last year.

I have been blogging now for six years, and it’s been an amazing journey.  I’ve met so many wonderful people (both online and in person) as a result of blogging, and the entire journey has been so incredibly rewarding.

But the time has come.

When I first started blogging in 2007, I really had no idea what to expect.  In all honesty, I really didn’t know much about blogging at all.  I just knew that I had a passion that I wanted to share with people.

And the sharing has been so fun!!  I have loved (almost) every moment of creating fun projects, documenting the process, sharing sharing those ideas with you.  I’ve loved the interaction with readers, and getting glimpses into your lives.  And I’m so thankful for all of that.

But I think that every blogger, at one time or another, faces the question, “How long can I keep this up?  Will I be blogging until I’m 80?  Does this whole blogging thing have an expiration date?”

Sadly, it does.

While blogging has been so incredibly rewarding…and just downright fun…it has also been exhausting.  When I started blogging years ago, I certainly had no idea how much time and energy goes into blogging, especially for a DIY blogger like myself.  I work unbelievably long hours, sometimes until the wee early morning hours, on projects.  Then there’s the photographing, editing, writing, proofreading, etc.

One single post can represent hours…even days…of work.  And it’s exhausting.

So it’s time.  It’s time to close this chapter, and move on to what’s ahead.

Life after blogging…

It’s very scary stepping into the unknown like this, but I’m confident in my decision.

The fact is that my website and blog design business has really taken off, and I’d love to be able to focus on that right now.  And with us hopefully moving into a house in the next few months, we’re really trying to save up as much money as possible right now for the renovations we’ll be doing, so it just makes sense to put as much focus and energy as possible into my website design business.

I won’t disappear completely!

I’ll still be around the blogosphere.  You’ll still see my handiwork when I complete rooms.  It just won’t be here.  But keep an eye out, because I’ll be submitting my work to other blogs and websites that I’m sure you’re familiar with.

So thank you for everything!  Thank you for a wonderful six years of blogging!  Y’all have all made it so worthwhile.  And I hope you’ll stick with me through the end of this month as I wind things down.

Blessings to you all!!!

–Kristi L.

(Psssttt…April Fool’s!  😀  I’m not going anywhere!  At least not anytime soon!  😀  So did I get you?  Did I have you going there for a while?  Sorry!  I couldn’t resist!)

Speaking of April Fool’s pranks, this one from Google (who is well known for their annual pranks) is my absolute favorite this year.  They announced the closing of YouTube so that they could select the best YouTube video.  They estimate that the selection process will take 10 years, and the winner will be announced when they relaunch the site in 2023.  😀  Enjoy!

  1. I am sad but I certainly understand. You must be tired of entertaining us. 🙂 I have seen so many awesome things since I stumbled upon this blog. Thank you very much! Good luck!

  2. I’m sad to hear this, as I’ve always loved your posts and have re-created several ideas in my own home. Do you plan on archiving A2D after there are no new updates, so that your projects continue to be accessible? Either way, I wish you luck in whatever your new venture happens to be!

  3. Hey – no fair! 🙂

I panicked on how to capture info from your site before you closed – we are doing some renovations this summer, and I’ve gained a great of inspiration from various posts (especially the paneling in the bathroom).

Thank you for not leaving me hanging at the end of the post though!

  6. Of course, I didn’t read the last small print and told my husband I couldn’t believe you were going to stop blogging… I was worried something horrible had happened!! Prankster!! You totally had me… thank goodness I went back to your facebook post and saw it was your april fools joke. 🙂

  7. OMG! You are so bad! I fell for it hook, line and sinker!! So happy you’re not going anywhere!

  8. Good for you Kristi. It’s fabulous that you know what you want and you keep moving toward bigger and better things. It’s my belief that everything we are inspired to do in is ultimately taking us to what we really want out of life, even though some of the things that we thought we wanted get left in the dust.

You have been such an inspiration for me. I am privileged to have been part of your blogging journey.

    Onward and upward!

    1. OMG!!! You totally got me!! Well I am so glad that it was an April fools joke!
I love you blog.! You are really inspire me to do things. But I have to wait till I get a house. We rent now and hubby doesn’t want me to put that much in to this place. 🙁 but I am still going to do some just now all of it!
Glad to see you are not going anywhere !

  9. oh for crying out loud! That’ll teach me to skim read – I didn’t even see the April Fools until I went back to find out when you were finishing!! lol Good joke (you rat!!!)

    xox

    1. Haha!! I thought for sure people would see right through it from the very beginning. 😀

Sorry!! After I was pranked, I thought I’d pass along a little prank of my own. 😀

  10. Good luck on your new chapter ! I sincerely hope that you will leave this site up so that I can continue to peruse your page. I only found it a couple of months ago and I have NOT yet explored all the twists and turns !

    Thanks so much !

    1. Charlotte, I’m not going anywhere. It was just a silly April Fool’s joke. (It says “April Fool’s!” under my name in the post. 😉

After I was pranked, I thought I’d pass along a little prank of my own. I honestly thought that people would see right through it immediately! 🙂

  11. Ba ha ha ha ha ha! Good one Kristi! You had me going. I was practically in tears because I love your blog so much. So much inspiration for me and your other readers. Whew!

    1. Oh my goodness, so sorry, Sue! 😀 I really though that people would read the title, and immediately say, “Yeah, nice try, Kristi! I’m not falling for that.” 🙂

    1. Haha! I’m surprised that so many people thought I was serious!

You couldn’t pry me away from my blog if you tried. Seriously, I probably WILL be blogging until I’m 80!! 😀

  12. You totally fooled me. As I was reading I was thinking “why is she doing this. She’s so good”. So glad it was a joke. I am so looking forward to your new house project. Move already kristie. We are with you. Cheers from Canada

    1. Haha! Just the THOUGHT of moving into a new house, and not sharing the journey and all of my projects with y’all makes me sad. 🙂 There’s no way I could stop blogging now!

And believe me, I’m so ready to move!!!! We’re still waiting on the current owners to get the house ready for sale. Last I heard, they were planning an estate sale to get the house cleared out. Haven’t heard the status of that in a couple of weeks. But I’m ready!!! 🙂

    1. Hehe!! I’m usually not a prankster, but after Google’s little joke on me (and so many others) last night, I thought I’d pass along a little prank of my own. 😀

  13. You totally got me on that one, and it would be completely understandable if you did make that change! Glad you’re not going anywhere. Your blog is amazing. Good luck on the new house!

  14. You are so bad!!! I’m glad it was a joke, but I can’t even imagine how exhausting blogging must be. Looking forward to following you to your new house and being inspired by your DIY projects:-)

  15. You got me too! I was getting all sad, and understanding… then you said April fool’s!! I’m so glad it was a joke on us!

  16. Oh my gosh. I wish you could have seen my face!!! I was so sad, I’m like are you kidding? I read your blog daily!!!

  17. At first I was shocked then it dawned on me that it could be an April Fool’s joke. I was praying as I finished reading the post and was relieved (to say the least) when I finally saw that it was actually a prank. You are soooo bad Kristi! I would miss you terribly if you quit blogging cause you are my favorite! 🙂

  18. I was sick thinking about losing your wonderful posts. You sure did get me! Thank God it was just a prank.

  19. Hi Kristi! I just thought I’d let you know that I absolutely love your blog! I stumbled upon it while looking for a blog to write about for one of my English classes. I was having a hard time coming up with something and my fiance mention that I should do something about decorating since I’m so addicted to it! I ended up using your blog for my paper, which was a rhetorical analysis and now I can’t stop coming and visiting your blog! It’s right up there with pinterest in my book!

  20. I never even gave it a thought that it was April Fool’s Day. Duh for me! : )
Great gag Kristi. I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

  21. OH MY GODDDD!!! HAHAHAHAHA!! In my mind I was mentally already preparing my response about how thankful I was for you and for inspiring me the past couple years and blah blah blah, then I caught that last line. I am howling with laughter at how much you got me! 🙂 I’m unsubscribing now. 😉

  22. You totally got me. And I was getting ready to fire off a very frustrated and sad email about it. So I’m so glad that you aren’t going anywhere!

  23. How funny! At first I thought it was an April Fool’s. I READ your April Fool’s. Then I started reading people’s comments and thought maybe I got it wrong and you really were leaving….so glad to know you’re not!!

  24. I was like, what???? I’m so glad this was a joke because you are so talented and I would hate to see you close this blog! That was a good one though!

  25. OH YOU!!! I TOTALLY fell for it! I was soooooo sad and then sooo glad ! Please don’t go anywhere! I love reading all your adventures!

  26. Whew, what a sigh of relief, I was about ready to cry! I was thinking you had gotten some really nasty comments (is it just me, or do commenters seem to be getting worse and worse?) and were pulling the plug. A bit selfishly I was wondering, “but how am I going to know about her other fabulous tools?” I am really liking that series of posts….

    1. Haha! I don’t think nasty comments would ever drive me away. Well, the mean ones started outnumbering the nice ones. Then I’d have to rethink things. 🙂

Not to worry…more tool posts ahead. 🙂

  27. OMG, I couldn’t believe what I was reading! Your site was one the first one I visited and I love everything you do!
I am so glad this is just a prank, completely forgot it was April fools day!

  28. I hate you! I cried! A2D is the first decorating blog I ever read, and the launching point to what has turned into a nice little budget decorating business for me. I had formulated like twenty arguments for my response. Hmph! Turkey!

    1. Oh no!!! So sorry!! I really, honestly didn’t think that anyone would believe it!! 🙂 Please don’t hate me. 🙂 I’ll woo you as best I can with lots of upcoming projects and room makeovers. 😉

  29. Lord have mercy, you totally had me fooled! I was thinking what a shame it was I had just found you and enjoy seeing all the things you have done. And then I thought how selfish of me to think only of myself when you had put your heart and soul into SO MUCH WORK…only to read….surprise!! Well, I’m thankful you were teasing so I can continue to be amazed, inspired and a wee bit envious of all your talent.

  30. OMG, I just about had heart failure. The first thing I do each morning is read your blog (before I even get dressed). I love all your colors (there’s too much gray in blogland). I would be devastated if you left so PLEASE PLEASE don’t even think about it!!!!!!! Can’t wait until you get your house so we can follow you.

  31. Although my name is April, I forgot it was April Fool’s Day! You had me, and I was so disappointed when I neared the end – I was thinking I need more of an explanation than this! Seriously, yours is the only blog I check faithfully and it would be ashamed if you stopped.

What a relief, you changed your mind there at the end! Haha

  32. You totally had me going! I was thinking…oh no, will we get to see the living room??? LOL I am surprised how many people didn’t read the FULL post and thought you were serious before commenting. LOL!!!

  33. I told my boyfriend in the middle of reading that post and he was most sympathetic cause he knows how much I love reading your blog… It’s the only one that I follow really faithfully since I found it. I was devastated by the thought that in a month’s time I cannot read your entertaining and inspiring blog anymore. I’m really glad you will provide us with lots more ideas of what to do to improve our interiors! Don’t do that again though, please, it really made me feel faint for a bit, like hearing that my favourite TV show is ending!!!

  34. you scared me that much!!! It was quite traumatic, till got to the end of the post. then I shout: “no , she is not leaving us!”.
listen, Kristi I really became addicted to your blog!!!!
thank you so much for your wonderful sharing

  35. Definitely had me going! You’re one of my favorite blogs. So VERY glad you’re not going anywhere! 🙂

  36. I know you’re not one for profanity (at least on your blog!), but I have to say, “You bitch!” I actually started to get teary eyed, reading this post!

    (glad you’re sticking around ;))

  37. I fell for it — hook, line and sinker — even after just being reminded it was April Fool’s Day. Honestly, I don’t see how you do all you do sometimes (the projects + the photos + the publishing), so the premise was entirely believable to me.

Anyhoo, glad it’s not true because you’re VERY GOOD at what you do!

  38. Wow ! I was so hurt -until I saw the April Fool’s comment..NEVER STOP BLOGGING ! This is one of the best ever blogs I’ve come across !

  39. You totally had me! My guess is it’s no “joke” how much time and energy is spent blogging. I’m sure it’s quite labor intensive, and there are many long nights. Apparently, you’re a better prankster than you think 🙂

  40. YES, you totally got me. I was shocked to hear it, followed by thrilled to realize it was just an April Fool’s!

  41. Lol, yep, I was thinking “but wait, you promised us a living room makeover”! 🙂 So glad it was just a April Fool’s day prank! 😀

  42. Thank goodness it was a prank ! Your site is one of two that I never miss and have gotten so many tips from. I’m much relieved you will still be here with us !

  43. I am so glad the announcement was an April Fool’s joke. As I read I was thinking on goodness I won’t have a “special” place to check out on week days. I have so enjoyed your blog and look forward to seeing what you are doing each day. Glad I can still anticipate seeing your progress each day.

  44. Andrea just said it perfectly. I was ready to cry when I read this email. Phew… so glad it’s a joke, BUT such a mean one. My poor heart can’t take it!! 😉

  45. You scared me for a minute! You’re one of my most favorite DIY bloggers and I was so sad that I wouldn’t get to see your posts anymore. Whew! Thanks goodness it was a joke…and I fell for it hook, line and sinker! 🙂

  46. Hilarious! You totally got me! I thought I had avoided the whole April Fools thing this year… no such luck. Glad to hear your not going though!!
    Krista @thehappyhousie

  47. Well, had me there! I was about to contact you for some guest posting, amongst other things! You are right about one thing, blogging can sure take it out of you, but your content is great!! So glad you’re not retiring!!

    Christine

  48. Here I was relaxing on vacation when I decided to see if you had started on the LR makeover……..”what, she’s quitting?” I even said something to my daughter-in-law sitting across from me about my disappointment and started telling her about the great bathroom makeover……THEN I READ THE REST! It’s a good thing Kristi or i would have been a little ticked……I LOVE your blog…..and now my dauther-in-law is swooning over your makeovers……it was fun to show her all your previous posts and ooh and ahh over your darling condo. She will be peaking in to see your projects too! I will forgive you as long as you keep posting such great stuff! Happy April fools day!

  49. Well, I thought immediately that it had to be an April Fool’s joke, then as I read, I started having second thoughts, then third thoughts. My stomach was flipping, then flopping. This reminds me of those stories where people fake their deaths, then attend the wake to see what people are saying about them. I’m so glad A2D isn’t really dead! 😀

  50. Ugh! I totally fell for this. I was all sad & thinking I gotta tell her thank you for the inspiration & wish her well on her new house. That was dirty, but glad I read to the end–and glad it was a joke after all!

  51. My heart was heavy as I read your post because I so enjoy your blog! I was completely sucked in! I am SO glad you aren’t really going anywhere…

    Happy blogging!

  52. Okay that was wrong on so many levels! My heart nearly stopped and I swear I heard NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in a really loud voice in my head! Except is was not in my head but me yelling no to the computer! Shame on you! But, it really was a good “Gotcha” for April’s fools day! But, don’t do that again! No, really… don’t do that again!

  53. Oh yes, you totally had me!! I actually felt my stomach drop! Worried that you were okay, your husband was okay. Then read you would still have your other site, I was happy about that. And that we’d still see you on submission sites. Ok, I understand and can live with that. I certainly don’t comment all the time, or get to read all your posts. I was happy you were going forward in a direction that would make you happy….
And then came the end…I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!! I’m glad you’re not going anywhere. 🙂

  54. LOL..
with so many bloggers quiting I really believed you!
Google? no thanks.. after their real prank on Easter Sunday I have little if any respect for them .

  55. So glad it was a April Fool’s joke. You would have really left a blank spot in the blogging world.

  56. my oldest dd cld me to say usually sites like G post pics reflecting the Holy day ( holiday)
but this year they posted that it was about cesar chavez’s birthday .
not that his b-day wasn’t worth reporting.. but come on.. yet another slap in the face of Christians.. & they know it. with that being said .. we refer to Sunday as Resurrection Sunday.. rather then easter anyway.. so fat chance That would have made it anyway :-)LOL

  57. I figured that it was an April Fools joke. But truely, you can see how many lives you touch. And it’s only the icing on the cake. Think of how many people don’t take the time to reply. What you do is valuable. You take us places that we didn’t think were possible. You give us hope and confidence that we can ‘get er done’. So I guess you’re stuck with us. Each and every one of us. And that’s NO April Fools joke. 🙂

  58. I was sooooo disappointed to think I wouldn’t see what you had decided to do with ur living room….so glad I read the entire post to find out you were pranking us!!! LOL

  59. You are a stinker!!! I rarely comment but I knew I had to reply to this because I have learned so much from you. And then I got to the end, lol. Now do I boost your ego and tell you how much I appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this, hmmmmmm. Yes you do deserve to hear that because it is/was a really good prank.
I became disabled in 2004 after having been S/E most of my life. I loved working and need something that I can do from home in a flexible time schedule. Thanks to your articles so filled with information about blogging and 6 months of research I have decided to go for it and start a blog. (Smiles, I don’t do anything fast anymore.) It was you that has given me the courage to go for. Thank you Kristi from the bottom of my heart. You are an awesome person who has a heart of gold, it shows through your writing.
Speaking of I do need to take some writing courses, lol
Bless you and happy April Fool’s!
    Sincerely, Kat

  60. OMG! You’re the first person that has gotten all day. I was so sad and panicky. I’ve just found your blog a few months ago and I was thinking…..What??? We’re not going to get to see the step-by-step renovations when they get a new house. I enjoy your blog and look forward to each new post. 🙂

  61. I was expecting it to be a joke until you made such a convincing argument for quitting! You stinker! Now, I know how my kids feel when I prank them-show no mercy!HA!

  62. You are so mean!! Totally got me. I’ve been sooo good at remembering to not believe anything all day, but you really had me going. I’m SO GLAD this is just a mean joke! 😉

  64. Well Kristi, what a joke! You had me -hook, line & sinker, well done (even if it was cruel!!) anyway I would just have joined your website so no real worries. Good April Fool ! Mary

  65. Omg, you DID have me there!!
I’m so glad all it’s just a prank, I only recently discovered your blog and I’m AMAZED with how much good stuff you have here, and how beautiful things you create! Would have been such a loss to, well, lose you 🙂 You’re a wonderful source of inspiration and ideas – and definitely a very good designer! – thank you for allowing and sharing these ideas with the world! xoxo

  66. OMG! I was totally believing this and couldn’t get my computer to read the rest of your post, I was like “No Way”! You had me till the end, LOL! Glad you’re not going anywhere 🙂

  67. I have three words, “you little #&@%! don’t scare me iike that again!
    Glad it’s only a Prank!!!!!!

  68. I just found your blog and LOVE it. I can sew but cannot draw a lick and my decorating ability lacks. But you show me rooms and ideas that are do-able and inspiring. Got me with the April’s Fool. Ha Ha. Glad your here to stay.

    joke.

  70. Kristi! Aaaaaaaagh! When I got to your PS I made such a loud noise I startled my son! You REALLY got me. I was ready to respect your decision but regret not seeing you sell that condo for a bundle and get your house (fee simple with the right to exclude, baby!) and do mazing things with the house and yard. Whew!!! As long as you are there I’m with you!

  71. Really, don’t. I’ve sent a lot of my friends to your blog and just thinking about how they, and I, would be missing you, was, well, heartbreaking! I was reading along understanding totally why you would want to take a rest, thinking how much I would miss seeing the living room makeover. I’m glad I read to the end.

  72. AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW OMG!!!!!

I read your post with tears in eyes and in the end… AHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA I’m just LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for not stop 🙂

    Kisses from Brazil o/

  73. Geez, you about gave me heart failure until I got to the “April Fool” part of the post! What a relief since I am looking forward to many more wonderful projects from you.

  74. Seriously! I almost had a heart attack!!!! You totally had me. I was like “What?” “No way, what about the new house?” LOL. I’m so glad you aren’t going anywhere!!!!! I couldn’t pull this on my blog, since it’s brand new and I have no followers. 🙂

  75. Woman you got me!!!!!!! >_< I seriously thought you were going away from my "world of bloggers" lol That was good though. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

  76. OMG you totally got me!!!! You little stinker! It was very heart felt and I was sad that you are leaving since I just found you about a half year ago and have loved all of your posts. I am glad to hear that you were just pulling a fast one on us and you’ll still continue to be here:)

  77. During reading I was thinking, now that I’ve found her she’s closing down, how sad.
I was hoping it was a prank all through reading it and luckily my instincts were right!
So glad you’re staying around and I appreciate all your hard work and letting some of that creative inspiration spill over onto the internet!
    Cheers, Siggie

  78. Well, 2 days later and you still have us fooled. Even read the sad news to my husband! I had only recently rediscovered you and was floored when I saw your location. I too am a Wacoan. So, do you have a local fan club? If not, let’s get one started so we lucky enough to live near you can bask in your glow!

  79. Kristi, My heart sank when I read your post. I had just discovered your blog a few months ago and have garnered so much information and inspiration here and on your technical blog. I was oh, so happy to see it was an April Fool’s prank!

Thank you for all you do. And, yes, I do realize how many hours go into projects, photographing, editing and posting, because I also blog. It’s a craft blog. I certainly was not going to fault you for moving on, but am so happy you are staying put for now! Happy Spring!

  82. OMG! I got so scared when I saw that post at first and was hoping you’d put together a book of all your projects and instructions! I love what you do, sooooo glad you’re not going anywhere!

  83. Good Heavens! You sure did have me! I do greatly appreciate your talent and energy – I’m still loving my new blog look. I need more time to organize it!

  84. I thought, oh my goodness!, of course she decides to “retire” after I just signed up to follow her! You got me! I don’t think I want to be associated with your blog anymore!…how do I unsubscribe???

After April Fool’s Day April Fools!
    Heeeeeheeeeehehe!

I would like to think I am just that clever to be the only one that replied like this! I am sure I’m not, but I am not going to read any other coments to maintain my self proclaimed cleverness!

Glad to see you are sticking around!

    😉
    Peace, Love, and Craftiness,

BTW…bathroom make over turned out beautifully. thanks for the inspiration!
