Looking For Great, Inexpensive Decorator Fabric?
This weekend, I was searching for some bold fabric for a couple of different projects I’m working on. In my city, we really don’t have a plethora of fabric stores, so my first stop is generally JoAnn Fabrics.
I find myself less and less impressed with their selection of in-stock decorator fabrics–the ones on the long rolls. I could swear that I’ve seen some of those same prints in there for at least 10 years. In fact, I know for a fact that one of the fabrics that I see every time I go in there, I actually bought and used on pillows in 1995. Fifteen years ago!!!
They do have a pretty amazing selection of special order decorator fabrics, especially since they’ve picked up a few new lines lately. But I needed immediate gratification. I didn’t want to wait two weeks for fabric.
That’s when I noticed their pretty well stocked selection of Home Essentials. These are 100% cotton fabrics, and run about $9.99/yard (although right now, they’re on sale for $6.99/yard). They only come in 45″ width, but that’s fine for pillows and other small projects. Check out some of these great patterns:
This one reminds me of one of my favorite Robert Allen fabrics, but at a fraction of the price!! |
Aren’t those great?! It really does seem like they’re adding new ones pretty regularly, because every time I go in there lately, I see one that I hadn’t previously seen. Sadly, they don’t have all of them on their website. In fact, my favorite two are nowhere to be found on the JoAnn Fabrics website. But I took some pictures while I was there. I was trying to find a fabric that coordinates with the PB Teen striped duvet/sham that is going in this room.
I like that last one so much that I’m looking for a place to use it in my tiny condo. I’m thinking maybe in my office…maybe a Roman shade. Hmmm…we’ll see. I have way too many projects to finish in other rooms before I can even give my office another thought!!
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
Do you ever go to Frankly Fabric on Valley Mills? I stopped in there once and was surprised at the nice collection they had.
Definitely! That's generally my second stop for fabrics. I go to JoAnn first because they generally have sales or I have coupons.
Gorgeous – I wish I had your gift for decorating:-)
Since the closing of Hancock Fabrics (which I LOVED), we only have two options for fabric in town – Joann and a local shop that specializes in decorator fabrics. I always assumed the local spot was much higher-priced, but recently found a toile there priced at $8.95/yd that Joann sells for $16.95. (And then found the exact same thing online at Denver Fabrics for $6.95!) No wonder they can afford to print out those 40%-off coupons like toilet paper – they're charging 50% more than they need to to begin with!
I'm a blue girl, I like the second one as well.
Love them all, especially the brown and green.
Those are great. I don't think we have a Home Essentials out here, but from the looks of the fabrics, I wish we did 🙂
Does anyone know where to find fabric with really large patterns on it? Like, the kind you see on duvet covers and stuff?
One of my favorite sources for fabric online is fabric.com. The have many great fabrics with big patterns, and their prices are great.
The blue pattern in the first image would be my first pick.
All fabrics are very good. These are decent and simple fabrics. Design is natural and forever!
The blue pattern in the first image would be my first pick.
