The Finished Entryway (Plus Updated Pictures Of Our Living Room And Music Room)
Matt and I have both been a bit under the weather over the last few days, but I finally have pictures of the finished entryway, plus some updated photos of our living room and music room. Let’s start with the entryway.
We don’t have an official entryway. Our front door opens into the large front room of the house. So I’ve tried to divide that large room into two areas to create more of an entryway, so I call this wall the entryway wall. Here’s what the entryway wall used to look like.

I actually really liked how the entryway looked. So redoing the entryway, in my mind, wasn’t necessarily me trying to improve something I didn’t like. I was just simply ready for a change. I had purchased this floral wall mural from Anthropologie when it went on sale at a discount I couldn’t pass up, and then I held onto it for over a year while trying to decide where to put it. After all other options disappeared one by one, the entryway wall was the clear option for the mural. So, while I really liked the previous iteration of the entryway, I was ready for a change.
Here is the new look of the entryway with the new wall mural as the star of the show.

I originally planned to use two lamps, but I planned after I had cut the holes in the mural for the wall sconces, and then I had serious doubt about whether I could patch those holes without them being an obvious patch job. But after repairing them with art pastels, I have to search to find them. So I opted not to cover up the dark pink flower on the right with a lamp since the patch over the hole blends in so well.

The mural is definitely the biggest and boldest change I made in this area, but the second is the new color for the console table. From the moment I repainted my green kitchen teal back in 2017 until just recently when I finished up our master bedroom suite, green hasn’t played a prominent role anywhere in our home. But over the last year, I’ve been slowly adding more and more green. I added quite a bit of green in our bedroom…

And I added a little bit in the bedroom suite foyer.

And I do have quite a bit of green in the studio, specifically in the back entry and the bathroom, but I also have the huge landscape design that has a lot of green in it,and is framed in green.

So it just felt right to add more green to the main areas of the house. I’ll probably eventually add more to the music room, living room, breakfast room, and possibly even the kitchen. But for now, I’ve started with the entryway.

The mural makes a big impact in the living room, and I absolutely love it. Ever since I installed the wall mural, I’ve spent more time in the living room just so I can stare at that mural. 😀

One change that I made, which I’ll probably undo, is that I added the bird pictures to the wall in the living room between the music room and the kitchen. I liked the idea much better in my mind than I do in reality. I think the issue might be the frames, though. While I loved those gold corners on the frames when they were on the entryway wall, I think those gold corners might be too much on this wall. I think I’d love the bird prints here if they were in plain white frames, so when I have time, I’ll probably try to remove the gold on the corners and see if I like it better. I have a feeling that I will.

Here are a few more pictures of the living room without commentary…

And now we’ll move on to the music room. The biggest change in here is that there used to be a cased opening from the music room to a hallway that led to the hallway guest bathroom and three bedrooms.

But now that cased opening has French doors on it and everything beyond those doors has been turned into our master bedroom suite.

But other than that, everything else is the same.

I really love this new view from the music room towards the entryway wall with the new mural.

But like I said earlier, I do think I need to find a way to add more green to the music room now. There’s green in my big pixel flower artwork, but I’d like a little more.

So that’s it for now! I’ll keep y’all updated on any changes I make as I find a way to add more green to the living room and music room. I don’t know why, but I’m really starting to love green more and more. It’s never been a main color in my decorating, but the more I add, the more I love it and the more I want. But for the immediate future, I’m finished making changes to these rooms. Although, I’m still uncertain about the teal front door. I really want to paint it white, or at least a color other than teal. I’m having a hard time making a decision on that, though. Now that you can see the whole area, y’all can let me know what you think I should do with the front door. I’d really like it to be something other than teal.

Hi Kristi. My husband and I drove down to Waco from Arlington yesterday to see my aunt at Stilwell Retirement Center. On our way back home we drove by your house. So, if you noticed someone slowing driving by, it was us. We just wanted to see our favorite celebrities house. It’s very cool to follow you for so many years and see your home in person. My husband jokingly asked if I was going to go ask for your autograph. Such good work and yes, I am a fan girl, lol!
Ha! And I’ll bet your first thought was, “Is she ever going to put that shutter back up?!” 😀
Everything, as always, looks awesome. It’s a gorgeous place to live and enjoy. I personally like the gold on the picture frames, but that is just me looking at all the gold accents in the room and of course I love bird prints to begin with.
Cheers to feeling better!
Just a thought…. Have you considered putting 3 bird prints on each side of the doorway to the kitchen. All six together feel a little heavy and crowded to me.
Or taking 2 down and only using 4 in the area.
The wall to the right of the door is quite a bit narrower, so I don’t think I would like them “framing” the doorway to the kitchen. But I’ll figure something out. I might even bring the pinwheel artwork back in here and save the bird pictures for the dining room.
Maybe paint the lamps in the music room green. It would make the color flow from one room to the other w/o a large project involved. 🙂
I was thinking this too!
How about changing up the pillows and/or throw on the living room sofa for green ones?
That was my thought exactly!
Mine also! Throw pillows! And the birds centered vertically on the wall, they look too high in my opinion. I love the entryway and the non symmetry of the mural!! I also like the door as is.
Sorry y’all have been under the weather. The new entry looks great. I really like the baskets and plants with the mural. For the birds I think they hang way too high. I’d select just 4 and have the highest ones hung at eye level (and also remove the gold). Sometimes art needs a little more breathing room around it for it to work.
D, I think you’ve landed on the exact issue with the bird art.
They did well on the teal wall because they popped and it was a larger space.
But fewer prints and hung lower is a fabulous idea
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your new entryway. And I enjoyed seeing all the areas in one posting….absolutely beautiful.
I, too, am adding more green, in little things, to my decor….I link it to the joy and harmony I feel in looking at the outdoors which God has given us.
Hoping you and Matt feel all better soon.
Kristi ~
You’ve done a beautiful job on your home. I love all the colors everywhere. I like the teal door, it brings out the little bit of teal in your mural. The yellow pillows would also go beautiful with your flower pixel artwork on the settee in the music room. It’s really hard gauging how and where to hang pictures when you have to do it alone. I have that problem myself. I like the other ideas of playing with the bird pictures… hanging just 4, splitting them up on the two walls that was mentioned, removing the gold, etc. Play around with them and see what you like best. You’re such an inspiration.
Beautiful as always when you get finished with a project! LOVE it.
Just from the pictures, I think painting the front door white and painting the fireplace the same color at the entryway cabinet would make the whole area look more pulled together. The mass of the bird pictures does seem to overwhelm that spot. Maybe smaller frames?
Now that the door is the only teal in the room it makes less sense. However, I would live with it for a while , play with colors on your computer and don’t make any hurried decisions.
The problem I have with the beautiful bird prints is that they don’t pop like they used to on the teal wall. You’re right about the gold, it doesn’t look right now, but they do get lost in a white mat with a white frame on a white wall.
So I would use your mad computer skills and play with different frame colors.
I wish I could master your computer skills.
I would agree that the door needs to be white or something very low contrast. Kudos on removing one lamp! Also agree on the gold corners on the picture frames. Might I suggest that it’s also the number of frames in that location. Four might be more appropriate.
The space is looking good and looking forward to seeing a few more green touches in your home. Sometimes it’s as simple as a pillow cover.
Love how you blend in so many colors together, I have been following you for a few years already and you never stop amazing me on how creative and handy you are. What a blessing it must be to have such wonderful talents.
Hi Kristi, someone mentioned the cushions on the music room sofa and that’s exactly the first thing I also though of. Maybe if you would have cushion covers that would have some pink but also some green, it could start tying the color in… maybe add some green decorative objects among the pink ones in the teal end cabinets…
Also, I might be crazy, but I feel like a white door would be too boring for your colorful house. I was wondering if you have considered a darker pink like the flowers in the mural and the lamp? It would tie in with the pink curtains of the living room, and in the view from the music room it would tie with that sofa? Just a thought. I had originally thought it could be a way to add more green and paint the door dark green like the mural, but the entrance already has plenty of green, it’s the other rooms you want to tie in.
Just some thoughts, you are way better at this, whatever you choose will be perfect I have no doubt.
I was so expecting not to like the entryway with the painted cabinet but you adding the natural baskets satisfies the need for something neutral and organic on that wall. I really like the painted cabinet, you picked the perfect color. I was also glad to see one lamp go, it blocked those beautiful flowers. And the mural needs no words, it’s stunning. You adding the coat rack to the wall adjacent to the door for some reason makes this feel more like and entryway than the prior look. It really is beautiful!
I would live with the teal door for awhile. I like that it is the same color as the music room doorway to your outside room and the fireplace, it kind of ties things together. I also don’t feel like it is working against the mural, at least now in the pictures. IF you decide to paint it I would stick with your Polar Bear white and just let it fade into the woodwork. If you are looking for color … that’s a tough one. Pink with distract from the pink lamp and those beautiful pink flowers in the mural. You have enough green in that area. To my eye I don’t see any other options. But you continuely surprise me with eye for color and composition so if there is a “right” color, you will figure it out.
I agree with other commenters, the bird wall looks too crowded to me, four pictures will balance out better and I would use different frames. The white frames (with or without gold corners) is too similar to the light gray wall.
I always love your reveals. This entryway may be one of my favorite areas of your house. It is truely stunning and makes such a visual impact.
The new look is beautiful, Kristi! I have a suggestion on the bird print frames- What about leaving the gold corner pieces, and painting the white frames with the same green paint you used on the console? It would bring the green into the living room, and give a highlight to the artwork. Also, swap out the yellow throw pillows on the couch for some green ones carrying the color around the room.
What about green lamp bases in the music room? Adds a little without a major reno. Love how it is all coming together.
Can you explain to me how you search for specific things for a room? I need a double (2 bulbs) pendant light to go over my sink for more light. I presently have 1 bulb (60 watt) maximum pendant and my old eyes need for light on the sink. I also will need single pendants over our bar area in the kitchen. Thanks for your time.
Honestly, Google is my BFF when it comes to trying to find specific items for my home. I wish I could do more local shopping, but it’s so time-consuming, and I don’t like to leave Matt alone for too long. So I do 95% of my shopping online. If I can’t find what I need via a Google search or on Amazon, I will sometimes use ChatGPT so that I can explain in more detail what I’m looking for and see if it can find links to products for me. But I very rarely have to do that because Google and Amazon almost always find what I’m looking for.
The new entry looks great. I really love the mural and the green sideboard. Like you I find myself bringing more green into my primarly blues with hints of pink palette. Something about it makes me feel like I’ve brought the outside in.
I would put the yellow pillows in the music room and the pink pillows in the living room. Add some green assorted things on the shelves or green cover on piano bench. l know my ideas and yours never mesh, so just my ideas.
Forgot to say l absolutely love you new entryway!!!
Front door could be a dark moody green.
I can see green pillows on the couch in the music room.
The entryway looks great! I also love the bird prints where you moved them. I would not change the teal front door. It ties all of your rooms together with the fireplace in the living room and the doors in the music room. I think it would look strange to paint it white. I think adding some pillows and accent pieces with green will help tie in the green to the other rooms.
I agree with 100% of this. You could get away with painting the front door a different color if you must but the teal doors throughout plus the teal fireplace are so cohesive.
Just a quick thought….might you consider changing the two yellow pillows on your living room couch to a more “mural friendly” choice? …perhaps it’s just the photo distorting their color… but they seem to just “stand out” and distract from that view of the mural.
Those yellow pillows have never been my favorite. But I’ve had such a hard time finding the right pillows (patterns, colors) for that sofa. I thought I found the perfect pillow covers on Etsy, so I ordered them, but the colors and pattern just didn’t do anything for me once I saw them in person. So I’m still on the lookout!
Have you tried the music room loveseat pillows on the living room couch? I think I think that would bring a pretty pop of pink to that part of the room.
Then maybe even the yellow pillows on the pink loveseat? worth a look. There is yellow in the art above so it might work. The music room accessories are all very tonal in the pink zone right now; bringing a few other colors in might be nice. Green on the bookcases in particular comes to mind.
I honestly would love the background of the music room walls to be the green with the stencil pattern on top. But I remember what it took to get to where it’s at now 😀 so probably not that.
Everything looks fantastic! I didn’t read through all the comments, but I did want to say maybe the pillows on the pink settee would be a good place to bring in some green.
Kristi, your entry is breathtaking. Not completely symmetrical works with one lamp gone. The flowers in the mural are center stage. I’d be sitting in the living room staring too.
The one thing that seems off when I look at the whole space: the two yellow pillows on the sofa for two reasons—the color just does nothing for that spot. In fact, it distracts the eye from appreciating the mural. Just too dominant. And, their scale is too large for the sofa. I would love to see a soft purple. Surely, not green.
I agree that the bird pictures need rethinking.
I would absolutely leave the teal door and teal fireplace alone. Before I even read about you wanting to change the color of the door, I was thinking to myself, “I love how the teal door and fireplace make the teal in the mural pop!” And, it also looks great with the teal sliding doors in the music room.
I would change the pillows on the couch to something that has teal/green/raspberry in them. Then, I would change out the baby pink drapes for raspberry colored drapes. In the music room, I would not change much. I would replace some of the pink accents on the shelves with green items. And, I would probably paint the glass paned doors teal – the ones that lead into your bedroom suite. I think it would look more consistent. Also, I would change the hardware on those doors to match the ones on the sliding teal doors. All in all, though…just gorgeous.
Lovely rooms and i really like the console table with only 1 lamp! Paint the front door green.
Absolutely love the change the mural brings! Music Room: bring green in with pillows for couch? Front Door, white. Living Room Frames: Before seeing the pink and violet, I initially thought paint frames green to match entryway table, but now I don’t know! Not sure this is much help!
How about a grey door to go with the grey in the mural? Maybe a grey fireplace??
You should post original photos as well – of what the house looked like when you bought it. That’s a huge difference!
