Two Polls: Headboard Fabric and Foyer Mirror Placement
Based on some comments I’ve gotten in recent posts, I want to do two informal polls on two different decisions I’ve made recently. I won’t guarantee that that I’ll make my final decisions based on the poll results. After all, I need to decorate our house according to my own personal taste. But sometimes it helps me to see which way the majority thinks, and other times all it takes is one comment from one person stating their reasoning to sway me. So, no guarantees here, but I’m curious to get your input.
The first thing is the headboard fabric. I had originally wanted to use the bird fabric as the headboard.

I love the bird fabric but using it as a headboard made other decisions difficult. The most challenging was what to do with the bed base. I really don’t want a wood bed base because I already have two wood bedside tables. I prefer fabric on the base of the bed (either upholstered or a bedskirt), but that bird fabric next to the area rug just doesn’t cut it for me. It seems like my only option would be a wood base or a solid cream base (either upholstered or a bedskirt), and that just seems boring and out of place to me.
So I decided that I needed something that would ground the bed better, and then I could use the bird fabric as an accent. This made everything come together so much easier for me since I could use the teal fabric as a bedskirt also.

But a few people have said, “Please go back to the bird fabric for the headboard!” Okay, but it’s easy to make that one decision and upholster the headboard in bird fabric. But what isn’t quite so easy is putting the rest of the plan together. If I have a bird fabric headboard, what else goes with it? It’s easy to envision a bird fabric headboard. It’s all the rest that needs to go with it that I have a problem with.
Here’s a glimpse of all the fabrics that I have. So you tell me. If this were your room, which fabric would you use on the headboard? But then, if you choose the bird fabric, you’ll have to tell me how you’d finish out the bed because that bird fabric will not work as a bedskirt.

Okay, next up is the mirror in the foyer. A few people said it looks funny hanging over the wainscoting and chair rail. I really don’t mind it like this at all, although someone pointed out that I failed to get it centered on the wall. Ugh! Math is hard, y’all. 😀 If it stays here, I’ll definitely need to center it.

But the other option is that I could get a tall easel and put the mirror in the corner. I like this idea as well, but it will reflect my closet. As long as my closet is clean and everything is put away, that’s not a bad thing.

So give me your thoughts on those two things:
- Headboard fabric — Teal geometric or bird fabric? And if you would use the bird fabric, then you need to tell me how you would finish out the bed. It seems to me that my only option for a base would be a wood base because a bedskirt out of that bird fabric next to the area rug is not an option.
- Foyer mirror placement — Keep it on the wall (and center it)? Or buy a large easel and place it in the corner?

Headboard: teal geometric
Mirror: corner
Keep the mirror on the wall – definitely. Angled makes everything look too busy.
I much prefer the bird fabric for the headboard. Why not pick a solid color from that to make a bed skirt?
I completely agree with both of these!
I have too many allergies to ever upholster a headboard-a dust collector. That said, I prefer the teal.
Yes! I came here to say exactly that! 😀
Same. Although I personally would stick with the wooden legs for the bed; a skirt might make it too look too heavy or grounded (although we won’t really be able to tell until it’s in the space).
I 100% agree with this. Center the mirror, but definitely leave it on the wall. The bird fabric is too beautiful to relegate it to just pillows. It needs to be front and center!!!
I know you didn’t ask this but the minute you needed to paint your dresser I thought why didn’t you make the curtains in that same green? It would pop against the grass cloth and wouldn’t just blend in.
Yes, exactly this!
Another vote for this option (both the mirror and the headboard)
Agree with Winnie!
Teal geometric, I never liked the bird print for the headboard. I thought that it would limit you too much. I really like the mirror the way it is. Excited for the new bedroom, it’s so beautiful
This!
My thoughts too! Excited to see what YOU choose.
Exactly this!!! I too, felt the bird fabric was too limiting. I think a solid in the teal would ground the bed and look amazing. Love the mirror where you have it, just centered:)
What about using the velvet on the bed base?
I had the same thought. It would help bring the darkness of the teal grass cloth down to a lower level. It would also pop against the white backdrop.
Leave the mirror hanging, but obviously center it. It you move it to the corner how are you going to fix the holes in the grass cloth from the screws?
Headboard: Teal geometric fabric
Mirror: Centered on wall…you won’t have to move it to clean the floor
Definitely the teal geometric fabric on the headboard. I’ve always thought the bird fabric was a little distracting. The geometric fabric is more grounding for a main furniture piece.
I like the mirror where it is. I think the closest reflection takes away from the overall look and the mirror shape is lost in the busyness. Just my thoughts. Your rooms are always creative and beautiful. I wish I had your skills. And determination and tenacity. 😊
I agree with this!
The mirror in the corner is too busy with the closet refelction. Center it and leave it on the wall. Being raised off the surface gives it a shadow-box effect.
Definitely the teal geometric on the headboard and frame. I loved the bird fabric until you found the geometric and I was sold. I like the mirror on the wall. Feel that the extra depth gives it more standing. Very 3 dimensional. Good choices you made.
1. Teal – include bird fabric in other ways. Have you considered using the bird fabric curtains from Ballard?
2. Mirror on wall
I personally think you are right to make the bird fabric be more part of the bedding. I also love the mirror floating in front of the chair rail, and think you’ve handled it perfectly
Headboard: bird fabric. I feel like the teal geo clashes and pulls the eye too much, and is too similar to the bench fabric. For the base of the bed, I’d do a solid ivory from the bird fabric, welted in the bird fabric (+/- tufted with bird fabric buttons.)
I like the mirror on the wall.
I like Megan Terry’s idea. The bird fabric is so you and therefore, I think you may be sorry you did not use it in a bigger way. As another option, I think the green fabric you used on the bench would be beautiful as a bed skirt, and it works very well with the bird fabric. But don’t pay attention to me…Ilike most of my color in in the form of artwork everywhere!
Wood base and center the mirror.
I like the bird fabric for the pillows like in your 2nd plan.
How about an easel but centered on the wall instead of the corner? If that won’t work I vote leave it on the wall. I do not like it in the corner reflecting the closet.
Or what about cutting out a portion of the chair rail and trim so that the mirror is flat on the wall….not sure this would work….just a thought.
I’m the same…. It feels like such an afterthought on top of the existing trim… I don’t like the mirror in either spot as is.
Definitely teal fabric for the bed! The bird fabric has a bit too much yellow tinge in the cream background.
I vote for the teal headboard and skirt. You could use the bird fabric as pillows and cover the bench you’re considering for the end of the bed.
I also vote to leave the mirror on the wall. It reflects so much of the closet that I, personally, would find it annoying. Your closet is so pretty but do you really want it on both sides of the room?
Sorry. Clarifying that the mirror on the floor reflected too much of the closet. 🙄
I think the mirror should be above the chair rail. If it fits. It looks very odd to me. I like either fabric for headboard and a wood bed but I like my main pieces to match. Headboard and nightstands. I know you don’t. It’s not that much wood showing actually.
If you take down the mirror what will you do about the screw holes in the wallpaper? If you like it, leave it.
Keep the mirror flat on the wall … It looks great there.
I’m not personally a huge fan of the upholstered bed header (and definitely not the upholstered bed frame), but I think the bird fabric is prettier with your walls. The teal is too matchy-matchy … Especially with the teal curtains. I think that bird fabric would be beautiful with a wood bed frame and would bring natural warmth into the room as well. Kinda ground everything … Birds, trees, wood … Perfection. 😁 But it be YOUR bedroom … Do whatever makes YOU happy. ☺️
You could paint the bench to match the dresser and upholster it with the bird fabric as well and put it at the foot of the bed.
I like the teal fabric for the headboard and base, but I don’t like the base so big. Can it be made with wood legs or upholstered legs?
I like the mirror on the wall. Also, keeping it on the wall eliminates the problem of hiding the screw holes.
For the headboard, I vote teal. It’s a good background and grounding fabric. You can easily change out the accessories when you want.
For the mirror, I’m not a fan of the mirror on the easel. Consideration has to be given to the reflection. I know you wanted full length, but what about hanging it horizontal above the chair rail?
I think your newest idea is the best on both the mirror and the headboard. I wanted to say the mirror was way wrong but didn’t want to hurt your feelings. The bird fabric is beautiful but too much for headboard. Maybe for your bench. I’ve always liked the idea, less is more.
Your home is beautiful. You do you. Just my ideas.💗💗💗
Here are my thoughts:
Do a wooden base for the bed painted the same color as the background of the bird fabric which is definitely my choice.
And I say NO to the easel.
I like the bird fabric as the headboard. Use the coral fabric as the bedskirt. That would look nice with the rug. I’d leave the mirror where it is as it is and use the “extra” space to deliberately hang something else. I admit that I’m not as stuck on symmetry as some are. I like the sometimes jolt of unexpected.
Headboard: I much prefer the bird fabric over the geometric. To me, the geometric is too jarring whether just on the headboard or also on the base of the bed, and takes away from the relative calmness of the room. If you use the bird fabric, could you use the orange fabric as a tailored bedskirt, perhaps with the orange/white trim (that you were thinking of using on the teal velvet curtains) around the bottom next to the rug? I like the teal curtains without the trim.
Mirror: I like the mirror on the wall, but centered, with the plant at the side. I had thought the mirror was off-center, but was hoping it was only because of the camera angle. I don’t care for the angled mirror, doesn’t seem right.
Mirror on the wall and the teal fabric! I also never really cared for the bird fabric on the headboard, and the corner mirror looks really busy. Go with your gut-they both look great as planned.
Have you thought of putting the mirror on the wall horizontally?
Mirror on wall. It does not look weird sticking out from the wall at all. I thought you said you have some art to put there, so it’s fine to be over a little to give that art some space on the left unless you plan to put it on both sides of the mirror. I do worry about the holes in the wallpaper, but they will be hidden even if you move it over a little. Personally, I wouldn’t put anything other than that mirror on the wall.
Teal for headboard. You won’t even see much of it once you put the pillows in place. If you want the bird fabric to shine, put that on the bed pillows.
I always try to give explanations for my comments. So I’ll do that here. I absolutely love the look of the wood bed base with the bird fabric headboard! I think it makes the space look more open and airy – especially with the dark teal grasscloth and draperies.. I am not sure why you don’t like finish of the bed base matching the nightstands. I like the look. You could use a slightly darker stain if you don’t want them matching. Perhaps even as dark as the blinds. A solid green bed skirt similar in color but not an exact match to the dresser could also work well. I love teal but think making the headboard and skirt in the teal fabric would be an overload of teal in the room and I don’t care for the geometric design of the fabric against the geometric design of the rug. I think mirror looks fine hung over the chair rail and away from the wall behind it, just centered. I don’t care for the mirror angled in the corner reflecting the closet.
I posted my comment before reading the rest of the comments. I didn’t elaborate on my choices and this one expresses my feelings exactly.
I wanted to say something about the mirror yesterday, but I’ve been trying not to comment in the negative-it’s your house-BUT since you asked I don’t like it on the wall where it is. My first thought was it’s too low! it just doesn’t look right, but I don’t think it will fit in the space even it you raise it up. It’s too big. (I do love it though) I wondered about hanging it horizontally on your long wall-you mentioned that wall yesterday too. I’m a fan of the bird fabric for the headboard-otherwise you have too much blue on that wall (is that even possible?-yes it is) You need some drama on that bed-more blue fabric is just safe.
The mirror seems too low to my eye (as a tall person at 5’11”), but Kristi has mentioned that she is around 5 foot tall (maybe 5’1″ or so, if I recall). I also think that this mirror is a “fit check” mirror to give a full-length reflection at her eye level as she comes out of the closet.
Have you done a mockup with the bird headboard and the accent pillows? You can’t get a real feel for the bird headboard without the mockup of the different fabrics. Try the green for the bed skirt, if only just to rule it out. Or even the orange.
I was all bird fabric until you switched it to the teal geometric—I’m a teal headboard fan—the colors you surrounded it with pulled everything together. I also loved the unique look of hanging the mirror away from the wall!! Bummer it’s not centered—I actually thought that was on purpose and there was a decorating surprise waiting for us!!
Headboard and bedskirt in the teal geometric pattern
Mirror- leave as is! Looks great!
Looking at photo of mirror on floor, looks like support for mirror is centered on wall so maybe the angle of the photo just made the mirror look different yesterday!
How about bird headboard and green skirt that matches the bench? Mirror- definitely leave where it is and if not being centered bothers you, hang something longish/thin vertically to the left. Training plant? Narrow art? Whatever you decide will look great!
Headboard – bird fabric. For bed skirt use bird fabric but add a solid color strip a few inches wide to the bottom which won’t clash with the rug
Mirror – if its to be there permanently why not cut away the portions of the moulding which but against the mirror allowing it to lie flat. Otherwise, the corner
Bird pattern on the headboard. Solid bed skirt fabric. To my eye and feeling, a geometric pattern seems rather business-like and rigid in a bedroom.
If the mirror is angled in the corner it will reflect real life, which is unlikely to be in perfect laundry/closet order. Who wants to constantly feel bothered by a messy view as you walk by it? The mirror is better on the wall if you center it, which will allow more breathing room for the lifeless plant. Ha Ha. (I like it.) Besides, cleaning around an easel is hard.
I have no doubt you will choose well. Have fun!
Maybe some people just haven’t seen this before, but I’ve often seen art or mirrors hung on a wall with a chair rail just the way you hung the mirror. I think it looks great.
As far as the headboard fabric, I’m in the “not a fan of the geometric print” camp. But I can understand your dilemma with the bird fabric. What about using it for curtains and pillows (and a throw?) and upholstering the bed frame with the velvet?
Oooh, now there’s an interesting idea! The orange drapery trim would look lovely with the bird curtains. I also like using the bird fabric for curtains because it nods to the idea of real birds just outside the window. I like either the teal geometric or the teal velvet for the headboard.
For the mirror, I like it hanging on the wall, but I would actually make it more off-center, moving it closer to the opening so that it is easier to check your full length appearance in it. That is the purpose of having it, isn’t it? Then I would use the open area of the wall to hang more of your colorful prints from the women in worship book. The plant could stay as well, but wouldn’t be overlapping the mirror and impeding your view. This would make that wall a beautiful gallery wall and tie the area together.
I also like this idea. Bird fabric for the curtains and the mirror on the wall as is.
Didn’t notice the mirror off center until it was mentioned. You could make it intentional by adding something like a narrow candle sconce there if you like asymmetry. Personally do not like the corner location. I find it super distracting and unfinished in a sloppy kind of way. I would love to see the lightness of the bird fabric against the wall but the teal is sweet and does simplify everything. Other wise as mentioned you could pull in a velvet color from that fabric. Maybe wrap your bed frame in a rattan (kitty approved lol) or something similar or paint the bed frame.
I love the bird fabric. Use the geometric on the headboard and sprinkle the bird fabric everywhere you can.
I think the mirror on the wall is fine. I like your potted plant, but not the location. I presume you’ll want to see a full reflection when auditioning outfits. Partially blocking the mirror doesn’t make sense to me. It will only improve minimally with a centered mirror.
I love both fabrics, but my problem with the geometric is teal walls, teal curtains, teal headboard…same, same, same. The bird fabric is a bright and happy contrast. However, I see your dilemma.
Bedskirts historically matched the bedding. If you’re going to make it a covered frame, it definitely should complement the headboard, but if it’s to be a removable skirt, it can be whatever your comforter/bedspread will be. As a permanent covering, how about curtain velvet, or even the geometric teal? It won’t MATCH, but should complement. Can you do a mockup showing the birds on the headboard and your other fabrics on the frame?
I actually like the birds on the headboard, and the green geometric you got for the bench on the frame. It’s a similar color saturation so not as distinctly different as the teal/birds option. The teal geometric could be a duvet cover and pillow on your chair. Or use the teal geo in your future dining room as curtains, and stick with the original color combos plus the green geometric.
I like the mirror on the wall. You live with shedders. Hair will waft behind the mirror and it will be a pain to move it to clean out hair every 17 minutes.
First I love the bird fabric but I see your vision. I think the teal is better and use the bird on the bench. Leave the mirror on the wall. The reflection of the closet is distracting. Go with your gut! You know what the endgame is supposed to look like! Ignore all the opinions you are the only one that has to live there! Everything you do turns out beautiful!
The mirror hanging over the wainscoting bothered me immediately when I read the post about it. But like you said, you have to decorate your house to your tastes and style. Personally I think it looks great in the corner but will it be in the way at all of the bathroom(storage room) doors opening when you need to get Matt’s stuff out? If the door has any possibility of banging into the mirror, I’d probably leave it on the wall just to keep it from getting broken or being a nuisance. Plus you’ve already put holes in the grasscloth. How much trouble would it be to conceal those holes if you take the mirror down?
I don’t have an opinion on the bed, but I’m going to throw a wrench on the mirror discussion. I don’t care for the mirror over the wainscoting, but I don’t like the corner angle showing your closet (it’s too busy for me, plus keeping it tidy). My suggestion is to swap the mirror and bench: mirror at an angle where the bench is, with the bench straight across from the doorway.
I like the bench idea Trish mentioned straight away from the entrance to the foyer. If the French doors open into the foyer though, they could get in the way of the mirror if switched with the bench.
I like that!
I don’t have an opinion on the upholstered bed but I personally love the mirror hanging! I like the dimension it gives going over the wainscotting.
I personally prefer the bird fabric for the headboard, just because it breaks up all the blue on the wall and keeps it looking light. For a bedskirt, what about using the dark blue velvet that you bought for the curtains? I feel like this will provide a little bit of the dark blue from the grasscloth closer to the floor, keeping everything balanced, while making a nice contrast with the carpet. The blue velvet is colorful without being too bright/distracting from the bedding and rug.
I like the mirror in the corner, mostly because then you could be getting ready in your closet and just walk to the doorway to check how something looks without having to fully leave the closet and stand in front of the mirror. This is obviously a very minor thing, but for me I’d like the convenience of that. Your closet is gorgeous so having it reflected from the corner would be lovely!
The mirror does not look good in the corner reflecting the closet and foyer walls. The mirror is much prettier as a statement piece upon entering the room.
The teal fabric seems to work for the headboard the best with your other items. It’s really coming together beautifully!
I prefer the bird fabric for the headboard because all the teal on that wall looks dark and heavy. I like the contrast. As for the base I would go wood without upholstery nor a bed skirt. I know that’s not what you want to hear but, in my opinion, the more you add to that part of the room the more unbalanced it looks. Also, the bird fabric will help to tie in the green dresser.
I like the mirror centered on the wall.
Just my thoughts. Your house!!!
Hi, I love the bird fabric BUT after you installed the teal grass cloth (which reads almost navy to my eye) the bird fabric isnt the best option (IMO). I do like the bird fabric but like you said, on accent pillow and the bench only where it isnt touching the walls. I say go for the teal since you obviously love that color!
I would center the mirror and not go for the corner – it reflects all that business of your closet and is distracting.
What if you used the coral fabric for a bed skirt and the bird fabric for the headboard?
Teal.
Wall.
I like the bird fabric as large pillows; the size of the print seems fitting for that, and the balance of light and dark is improved.
Your mirror is perfect when hung centered and seems “simpler.” An easel just sounds like another thing that makes cleaning more difficult and “complicates” that corner. It’s also much easier to get the right height.
I do like that you don’t get stuck on your ideas and are willing to look at other options. Just not this time!
Also, I’m not a fan of using the bird fabric in another place in the room; it seems to need the teal to ground it just it as you’ve done. For some reason putting it on a bench strikes me as amateur. And you’re not. The beauty of having an overall home color plan is that you can use it in another room.
I vote bird fabric for the headboard. Teal-on-teal-on teal is a lot for that wall and might detract from each element’s gorgeous texture. The geometric print is beautiful, but too strident for the headboard, IMHO. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, I like you the way you are, just center yourself! 🙂
My votes:
Headboard teal geometric with the birds as accent.
Leave the mirror where it is (centered).
1. Bird fabric on the headbord, green fabric for the bedskirt. I really like how these two fabrics complement each other, as shown in your picture.
2. Mirror on the wall, centered.
Thank you for engaging us in your wonderful journey to a magnificient home.
Teal and keep it!
I think you need the chair in the room before deciding on the bed and headboard because you may need to pull some of the chair color into your pillows if it doesn’t exactly match the rest of your teals. I prefer the mirror on the wall. It looks clean and polished there.
Have you considered using the green fabric for the headboard and bedskirt. Make pillows and cover the bench using the bird fabric.
Regarding the mirror, just center it in the wall.
I rarely put my two cents in, but my choices are teal geometric and easel for mirror. Whatever you choose will end up perfect!!
Definitely teal geometric for the headboard. And leave the mirror hung on the wall (but centered). Centering doesn’t look like a huge issue – just moving the hooks on the board you already have in place maybe.
Oh, but maybe you could find or make a solid coral piping and put it around the edge of the headboard…..
I vote for the bird fabric headboard (and I’m so not a bird lover). Comparing your two mock-ups, the bird fabric makes the room “pretty”, which is very Kristy. The geometric creates a totally different vibe, and while it’s not bad, I don’t love it and it doesn’t look like you. With that, for the bed/bed skirt maybe you could use the teal velvet, or the solid coral, OR my favorite would be stripes. I found some striped fabric that may be the right colors.

For the mirror, I love it on the wall, and spaced out for the wainscoting just as you have it. As another poster stated, the board you attached to the wall looks centered. Strange. Hopefully you can just move the screws for the mirror and leave the board in place. It’s perfect!
Geometric for head/foot board. Mirror on the wall, centered. Bird fabric elsewhere. 🤣 I love how it’s coming together.
I completely agree with Jen. BIRD FABRIC HEADBOARD, and ditch the teal geometric. I am personally not a fan of two different geometric patterns in two different colors in the such close proximity. If you must have a bedskirt instead of a wood base, STRIPES for the bedskirt.
1. Teal geometric
2. Add easel
Mirror hanging on wall is beautiful, especially with that plant beside it. And keeping the teal geometric head board and skirt idea is so pretty for this room.
Mirror on the wall
Birds for the headboard and either coral or green for bed skirt orrrr a stripped bed skirt
Mirror – on the wall and centered
Headboard – prefer the birds!
Hi Kristi! I much prefer the mirror on the wall. I also have a mirror coming off from the wall to go over a chair rail and it never bothered me and works really well. If it was an accent mirror it would be one thing, but because it will be your main closet mirror and you will actually look at yourself full length when you get dressed, angled would not be the way to go in my opinion. Also as someone mentioned, kind of busy with the closet reflection.
As for the bed, I agree that the bird print is restrictive. Absolutely gorgeous though so it deserves prominence, but maybe not in a full-bed-kind-of-way.
I would leave the mirror on the wall, as is. Looking straight on, it looks like a perfectly good location.
Putting the mirror on an easel instead would add a safety risk, in my book, especially with you big, enthusiastic dog Cooper and your husband passing by in his wheelchair. Safest to secure the mirror to the wall.
A standing mirror is better than on the wall. I love both you fabrics for the bed.
I like the mirror hanging centered on the wall. I thought the placement was centered over the outlet for some reason, lol. Then, you had something planned for the hall side of that wall. That would also move it away from the plant it the corner, which bothered me, lol. I was just waiting to see what you were going to do, like a TV drama…dun, dun, dun…lol. (sorry for all the lol’s, can’t figure out the setting to give me emojis, bah!)
As for the bird fabric, I agree that you would hide most of the headboard with how you dress your bed and if you wanted to make the birds more prominent, using the fabric on surfaces/decor more exposed makes sense. From your mock-up, maybe people aren’t seeing enough of the fabric, which I think you said would be on the bench at the foot and possibly a bed cover of some sort? That said, my vote would be, use the teal fabric on the headboard and use the bird fabric where it would be visually prominent, in light of the design issues you presented. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Headboard – Teal geometric. Everything comes together like it was meant to be. The bird fabric is beautiful but I believe best used in accent pieces.
Mirror – Easel in the corner. To my eye, the hanging option feels like a beautiful piece forced into a place it doesn’t work.
Bird fabric headboard with the coral fabric for the skirt. The bird fabric is open and not busy creating calm and not competing with the teal grasscloth walls. The coral fabric is calm and melts into the rug while complimenting the teal room. The geometric overpowers the room and the rug and makes your eyes look for a place to rest. So much teal takes the beauty of the teal grasscloth away.
Center the mirror
If you love the bird fabric, you could use it and paint the wooden bedframe a bright color, maybe teal? That solves the boring beige or wood factor. Mirror, a definite no on the easel. I’d leave it where it is, but I’m not a symmetry nut.
Re a bedskirt: wouldn’t it get in the way of your tending to Matt? Hoyer Lift, general care, etc. No bedskirt means nothing to interfere with your feet as you stand by his side of the bed. Teal bedskirt look is too heavy. So no bedskirt but either fabric for the headboard. Personally, I love the bird fabric – it is light and fresh and colorful. Teal fabric headboard seems too heavy and brings too much teal into the room. Bed legs stained to match the bedside tables provide balance and not too much wood look. Keep the mirror on the wall but center it. You’ve already screwed that piece of wood into the grass cloth so removing it means hole repairs. How do you repair grass cloth holes? The large plant on the floor next to the mirror is a nice touch.
Bird fabric on the headboard, green fabric as a bed skirt (not as an upholstered footboard). I think the teal fabric against the teal grass cloth is too much without as much contrast as is needed. I love the bird fabric! I don’t think the bed skirt has to be the same fabric as the headboard, and making a bed skirt would allow you to switch out accents as the years pass if you want something new. Put some pillows in the green along with one in the blue.
I like the mirror hanging and don’t have any problem with it crossing the wainscotting.
I vote bird fabric headboard, coral fabric for the base. I am not a fan of the geometric fabric as I see the room as traditional, and the geometric as modern – very conflicting in my brain! As for the mirror, it’s growing on me to be as it is, just centered. (Unless you can find a tall plant for the corner, or a plant stand for the plant you already have.) Not crazy about the plant being on the floor. I am not loving the mirror in the corner, reflecting the closet. Here is where my honesty comes in: Frankly, I don’t see the need for a mirror in the foyer at all. If it’s to see how your outfit looks, it should have been worked into the closet, or maybe in your roomy bathroom. As an accent, it should be horizontal above the chair rail, as more of an art piece. But as I always say, it is your home, so you should go with your feelings, not ours! Thanks for asking though!
OK, here are my two pennies worth. Bird fabric for the headboard and pull a color out of that fabric for a velvet for the bed base. Leave the mirror where it is at. No one on the face of the earth has ever said everything MUST be centered on a wall…art included. I think it looks great there, and as for the lights, I thought immediately nite-lite, you will understand this the older you get. Less is more. You are rounding third base and heading for home, don’t make this anymore complicated than it ought to be. You know you will be tweaking things along as you move into the room. I loved the bench at the base of the bed. You have a lot of dark with the teal drapes and that gorgeous grass cloth, don’t be afraid to use that bird material a little more. I agree, not next to the rug, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot have it incorporated into the coverlet, or a faux coverlet at the end of the bed, or even on the bench at the end of the bed, just throwing stuff out there to see what sticks. Tons of options, take it slow and this is a great time experiment and see what your heart truly desires. You’ve Got This!!!
Cheers to you, Matt and the Fur Inspection Team!!!
Bird fabric for headboard with the green geometric fabric for the bed skirt or frame. Mirror centered on wall.
Also, bird fabric on bench at foot of bed
I love the teal geometric fabric for the bed! The darker background pulls nicely from the wallpaper and curtains. Use the bird fabric as bedding somehow; duvet cover or throw.
For the mirror I think it should hang on the wall. I fear if it is on the easel and you need to get something out of the storage closet(current bathroom) that the door will swing back into the mirror and knock it down.
Teal Geo….EXACTLY as you have shown it with the combo of fabrics located as shown.
Mirror centered on the wall… (things off the floor make for very easy & SPEEDY cleaning)….
This!
Yes! This!
The mirror looks best on the wall. For the headboard, I’ve been thinking that with teal grasscloth wallpaper, teal velvet drapes and teal headboard fabric, that it was feeling too heavy. With the bird fabric it lightens up that end of the room. Having a wood base for the bed would be really classy and surely longer lasting than fabric which would get rubbed and worn from general wear and tear. Though not much of it would show due to a comforter hanging over the edge, wouldn’t it give a break visually to the eyes among all the patterns? Especially against the carpet. Once the main elements have been decided, then I think the other fabrics can be added as cushions, trim etc.
My decision would be:
Bed: Teal fabric for both skirt and headboard; bird fabric on cushions, a throw or the bench
Mirror: keep it on the wall, probably centered (for me a little higher seems better, but that is up to which height is actually perfect for you to see yourself in it 🙂 )
Headboard definitely bird fabric! Maybe just fancy wooden legs for bed and no skirt. Love the mirror where it is just center amd raise up a little bit. Everything is looking great!
I personally love the teal fabric for the bed but if want to go with the bird fabric you could pull a solid color from the fabric for the bottom of the bed, the orange or the cream. Mirror centered on the wall, I know you didn’t like the lights behind the mirror but I think they would really add a soft light at night to help navigate the area when turning on the overhead light would wake the one still sleeping. I’d love to see a picture of them on at night.
The green geometric fabric looks very nice with the bird fabric. You could use the geometric fabric for the bedskirt and the bird fabric on the headboard. Personally, I like the teal fabric for the bed, and would use the bird fabric for pillows or a duvet cover. a
If it was my bedroom I would use the bird fabric for the headboard and the wood base in a very similar tone as the nightstands. It gives it a cleaner look and doesn’t compete with your other prints. As far as your mirror, I’m just not a fan of it so others can give you their opinions.
I’d say bird fabric for the headboard (and curtains, even though you didn’t ask about that!). Mirror would look good either place.
Sooo, my opinion on the mirror is to leave it on the wall, overlapping the wainscoting. Do NOT cut out the wainscoting like some people are suggesting- that is madness. I know some people are bothered by the mirror overlapping the wainscoting, and that might have been a decorating no-no back in the day, but by today’s standards it’s bold, modern choice – I’ve even seen large paintings hung that way.
As for the headboard….if it were mine, I’d use the bird fabric and make the bedskirt a solid cream color (pulled from the bird fabric). Heck, I’d probably put bird fabric on the bedskirt if it were mine, but I’ve always been a bit of a maximalist, and not afraid to mix patterns. Still, for your purposes, I think the solid cream fabric would work best.
1 – Teal geometric, because I really like how the dark color in the pattern is almost tone on tone in a really interesting way with the grasscloth. Plus you’ve flowed so much better with decorating since you landed on combo.
If you were going to do the bird fabric, then the ivory base which I disagree that it’s boring but also I know you won’t do. 😀
2 – Keep it on the wall and center it. I disagreed with the comments yesterday,I think it looks way more high end the way you have it (centered). If you were going to prop it up, I definitely wouldn’t want it in the corner and I’d want the whole mirror to be way way bigger.
You were SO EXCITED by the bird headboard initially. It feels like you’re compromising on that. The contrast between the lighter headboard and the grasscloth feels really nice and makes a STATEMENT. The other fabric for the for the headboard seems to make it less of the focal point, it feels blah. I think the wood base the same tone as the nightstands in the first picture actually looks really cohesive without being “this is a bedroom set”. You don’t have a lot of other wood in the room.
I REALLY REALLY like the mirror in the corner, but the reflection being of the closet looks very visually cluttered. Can it be angled differently for a view of more of the front of the room and less of the side (closet?). I thought it looked just fine over the chair rail (though it did need centered 😉 . If the options are reflection of closet or hung on wall I’d go with hung on wall, no contest.
In looking at the photos again…you are a shoe girlie, does the mirror on the wall actually provide the right reflections you’re looking for? Checking shoes etc looks like it could be an issue. Does the placement in the corner provide too much going on in the background to check an outfit/see how a pair of pants fit/etc?
I agree 100% with using the teal fabric for headboard and bedskirt because it grounds the whole bed and provides a darker backdrop for the lighter bird fabric.
While not mainstream decorating, I find it attractive how the mirror connects the upper and lower parts of the wall. I personally like breaking up the continuous demarcation line and might do the same in my house now.
Bird fabric for headboard, green fabric you used on the bench for the redshirt. Center the mirror back on the wall. You have it looking beautiful!
Teal~ which I’m surprised I like it better

Teal geometric and center

My votes…1. Teal Geometric Fabric for the bed. I like it! It adds some personality to everything! I love the bird fabric, too. But, if you use it as the bed skirt AND the headboard, your room will start to look very “old English lady”. That doesn’t seem to be your style. (It is kind of my style…but, this isn’t my bedroom. lol.) I think you should make a duvet cover with the bird fabric and pillows. It will be gorgeous.
2. Regarding the mirror. Keep it on the wall. I don’t love it reflecting your closet. It looks great on the wall (to me). I wouldn’t put anything else with it. The mirror and the plant are enough. You want to be able to see your whole outfit at a glance. 🙂 Everything is looking gorgeous!
I can’t paste it, but I just did a mockup of bird fabric headboard, geometric skirt, geometric square pillows, striped bolster. Looks rad.
Actually, like really really good.
Mirror on the wall, center it up.
I think any idea you land on will be perfect for you and Matt 🙂
For me personally, the geometric fabric would be too busy for me in the bedroom on the bed. I want soft bedding and a calm and soothing headboard to the eye if it’s going to be upholstered. I’d lean into the bird fabric for the headboard if I had to choose but honestly, having the headboard matching the drapes would be my choice.
As for the mirror? I like it on the wall because imo, the shape of the mirror doesn’t lend itself to being in a corner with the curved frame 🙂
Hang the mirror higher. I don’t like it over the wainscoting at all.
The bed,,, what about solid coral with the bird print headboard ? I hate the printed fabric and that large striped pillow on the bed. It is ok on the chair but not that thing on the bed.
Bed base in wood…grounding and classic. You will never tire of it. Headboard, teal fabric and make a ‘throw’ from that fabric for the end of the bed. Limit bird fabric to euro shams and your kidney cushions on your chair. For a shared master bedroom, maybe too much bird fabric is too much femininity. And you still have art to work in there.
The mirror mounted horizontally. You will still have a full body view in your large space. Put the bench under the mirror with either fabric. The bench is a bit too long on the other wall. Under the mirror is more balanced. Put the plant on the other side of the door. Again, you still have art!
No bench at the end of the bed…less is more here….breathe!
Your whole Reno is impressive. Even more impressive is that you still ask opinions… do what you want with them. 😉
How about the bird fabric for the headboard and verticle striped bed skirt? Maybe a muted version of the colors, so it doesn’t compete with other elements in the room.
I also like the mirror on the wall.
Teal fabric, center mirror on wall is my vote.
Bird fabric for headboard and do a cream that matches the background for the rest of us. The teal fabric kind of gets lost.
Absolutely mount the mirror. An easel seems like an accident waiting to happen, either by a dog or a human.
I truly love the teal geometric with the bird fabric as an accent. Sorry, I have no opinion regarding the mirror. Whatever you decide, it will be absolutely beautiful. You do such amazing work and can “see” the end result so clearly.
Headboard: teal geometric
Mirror: wall
Please stick with the blue geo fabric on headboard and mirror on wall.
I think keep the teal fabric for the bed.
What about putting the mirror on the easel on the opposite wall, where the bench is and move the bench where the mirror is?
Teal geometric, center mirror on wall
Bed-when I saw you changed from the bird to the teal fabric I was disappointed, but now I can see your vision. I could go either way there.
Mirror-love it on the wall, no issues with it being over the wainscoting at all. Didn’t even notice it wasn’t centered.
Place the mirror on an easel, but then what to do where you drilled holes in the grasscloth and will whatever it is complement or detract from the mirror? Just a thought on that.
As for the headboard, you could cover it with the bird fabric and use either the blue or green patterned fabric for the lower wrap.
Such a dilemma, I am going to read the other comments to see if they have better ideas and are not as confusing as mine.
I like the geometric fabric plus the pillows in bird fabric, and I like the mirror on the wall.
Birds on the headboard and bench🩷
Mirror looks cool hung like it is.
What fun reading all of the opinions! You will surely have to keep a tally or a chart to keep track of all the ideas.
After reading all the comments, I think I might keep the teal fabric on the headboard and frame. I would consider using the bird fabric as a duvet cover and maybe a pillow on the recliner. The pillows on the bed could be striped or the green fabric. Whatever you decide, we
will be great!
I would keep the mirror on the wall where it is and possibly get a longish sconce for one side that is wider. It would probably be wise to do a mock up of a sconce before actually purchasing one. And lastly, I would move the plant to another location. I like the basket and plant, but it doesn’t look like it belongs where it is now. Maybe the plant needs to be taller in portion to the mirror. You are headed in the right direction for another amazing room in your house.
Teal on the bed and mirror centered on the wall.
I’m a huge fan of the bird fabric heading. I would like to see it on a bed with legs, rather than a solid base and I’d do a footboard that comes just a little above the mattress, also upholstered in bird fabric. Your side rails will also be upholstered but they won’t be sitting directly on the carpet. If you nix the footboard, you can still use an upholstered rail that wraps around both the sides and foot of the bed.
I think the mirror is fine if centered. Angled or leaning mirrors give a skewed perspective that I don’t appreciate when checking my clothes.
Mirror – on the wall. Headboard – bird fabric. Aside – I like the wood base for the bed, it makes the whole thing look lighter.
Disclaimer – I dislike fabric beds and bed skirts.
Love the teal for the headboard and base of the bed. And I really liked the mirror hanging on the wall. I think with it leaning it takes up too much space and will eventually be in the way.
1. ??
2. Definitely hanging on the wall. 100%. Having it floating like it is makes it look elevated, high end. I’ve actually seen art hung this way at high-end resorts. And honestly, I don’t mind it being off centered. I think it looks intentional. But that one solely depends on if it will bother you.
Thank you for inviting our opinion, Kristi. I love the bird fabric, but agree that it is problematic as the headboard fabric. Using the birds on large pillows on the bed, on the bench at the foot of the bed, and perhaps as a duvet, would brighten up what some have thought is “too much teal”. You obviously love teal, so I would not worry about using “too much”.
The mirror is great on the wall as is. Centered would be my preference, but not essential. Whatever you choose to do will look great!
I LOVE the bird fabric! Have you considered doing the headboard in the bird fabric and the skirt in the coral with a blue or green fabric finished edge?
And I love the easel idea! That would be very interesting in the corner. I may steal that idea… 🙂
Bird fabric on the headboard, teal geometric as the bed skirt.
Centre the mirror on the wall and lower it slightly, say 2 to 3 inches.
I prefer the bird fabric for the headboard. The geometric fabric + grasscloth + teal curtains + blue curtains is a lot of blue for me, and they don’t quite all go together, at least in the rendering. I also find the pattern busy against the carpet. Or if you did the geometric fabric for the headboard, I’d do a plain bedskirt or paint the bed frame green, blue, or maybe the branch brown from the bird fabric. Even if you did the bird fabric, that might still be a good thought.
Headboard: teal
Mirror: centered, hanging
What about the velvet of the curtains as a bed skirt with the bird patterned headboard? In my humble opinion, I think the mirror needs to be flat on the wall, not angled in the corner. It just bothered my eyes seeing it angled. Love watching the process from start to finish.
I vote for using the teal fabric on the headboard and bed skirt, and the bird fabric for pillows. I love that look. I also vote for leaving the mirror hanging, centered.
Keep the mirror on the wall. It will distort your image if you have it on an angle.
Absolutely teal geometric fabric for headboard and bed base.
Mirror on the wall.
Hello, I think you should go with the bird fabric on the head-board and teal fabric for the frame. Or wood frame. I love, love the wood accent and think it will be far enough away from the night stands that you will never notice. As for the mirror. Hanging is better, just center it. That’s my personal opinion.
teal headboard
mirror on the wall
I vote to keep the mirror on the wall, not in the corner.
The bed will be fabulous with either fabric on the headboard.
This room will be so beautiful!
I like the teal headboard with bird pillowcases, and I like the mirror on the wall, except I would have placed it off center towards the outer corner since it feels crowded closer to the inner corner (I do like the plant but it’s a bit crowded in the corner). I personally would want more room in front of mirror when checking my outfit of the day.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet – the teal geometric adds another element of texture to the room and helps balance – remember you will be adding orange lamps and a busier patterned orange rug, and possibly artwork above the bed.
I think the bird fabric is amazing, but as someone already mentioned, having it on the pillows & bench would allow it to be a feature and would not override those other design elements.
And forgot to mention that different ‘textures’ add excitement to a room – you would have the grasscloth, velvet and ikat ‘texture’ fabric all balancing and playing off each other with the result being a very cozy room.
headboard: teal; bird fabric background doesn’t work great adjacent to rug, imo.
mirror: on wall.
Unsolicited opinion: I don’t love the plant there. Seems like it gets in the way of the mirror for outfit checking and doesn’t really add to the space.
1. Bird fabric headboard, paint the base the green of the dresser or use the geometric green or teal fabric for a skirt. The skirt doesn’t need to exactly match the headboard.
2. Hang it centered on the wall. It’s fine.
I love the bird fabric against the wall. What about using a solid teal or orange on the bed frame, pulling one of those colours from the bird fabric? For the mirror, against the wall. It keeps your closet more private, and the foyer more elegant.
I really love the bird fabric headboard as you have it shown in your mockup with the taller headboard. It is so charming and brings a lightness that the teal geometric does not. It serves as furniture and as artwork. In one mockup you have a striped bolster pillow on the bed. A striped fabric like with, with plenty of white/cream would look great as the bed skirt or as a padded base. You could even use the striped fabric as trim on pillow shams.
I prefer the mirror on the wall. It looks too cluttered on the floor, especially with the reflection of the closet.
You didn’t ask about this today, but regarding your long wall, I suggest living with it blank for a while. Let it sink in. You may decide it is perfect as is or you may come across the perfect artwork or spark to create your own.
Is the orange as a bed skirt too much? With the birds as headboard?
Bird fabric for the headboard, bed skirt same fabric as comforter. Green fabric as accent pillows and to cover the bench at the foot of the bed, or a folded throw if not having the bench. Keep mirror centered on the wall to maintain serenity in foyer.
Bird fabric, green fabric for bed skirt; mirror on wall, I don’t love it there, but I also wouldn’t always want to see into the relative busyness of the closet evertime I walked into the bedroom either.
The mirror should stay on the wall. I think it looks good and it has a function to see yourself after you get dressed. The reflection of the closet is a no go. I think the beautiful bird fabric and wood frame as originally planned looks best. Not having a bed skirt or upholstered base will also keep the room feeling larger – especially with the upholstered chair. That combo reminds me of the connection to nature in your master bath.
Bird fabric for headboard and make your bedspread long enough to hit the floor covering the wood!
Teal fabric for the bed. It seems to ground the room a bit more. Make the two larger pillows out of the bird fabric. Make the smallest rectangular pillow out of the green fabric of the bench or the striped fabric.
I like the mirror on the wall.
Teal Geometric for sure with the birds as an accent.
Mirror looks great on the wall. Keep it as is and center.
The geometric clashes too much with the rug and you already have enough teal on that wall with the grass cloth and drapes. I like the bird fabric headboard with an upholstered bed frame or bed skirt in a beige with welting in either orange or teal. I also like the orange for a bed skirt as long as it is the same orange that’s in the rug. Keep the mirror on the wall and center it if possible or if you don’t want to put more holes in the wallpaper, set a tall plant next to the mirror to camouflage the difference in spacing.
I vote for the beautiful bird print for the headboard and a solid color bed skirt. As for the mirror, I would leave it on the wall.
The bird fabric is gorgeous. How about doing the drapes in that with toned-down orange trim. You could use the blue velvet on the headboard and go with a wood bed base painted to match the headboard. Then you could use the blue geometric for euro shams and the orange, green and bird fabrics for accent pillows.
Teal geometric headboard
Mirror on the wall as is or centered
Maybe rethink the stripped pillows
Love the second photo. Teal geometric on bedhead and bed skirt. The bird cushions look fabulous and tie it all together.
Is the mirror too big to hang horizontally? If not then I would find somewhere else to hang it as I think it is too big to hang on the wall . To put on a stand and reflect your wardrobe, let’s face it you won’t always be able to keep it tidy. I think the mirror needs to reflect something interesting or beautiful so I would consider how to make this happen. Just my thoughts Kristi. You have done the most amazing job of your robe. It is a masterpiece.
1. The mirror. I vote for the easel. Or mount it above the chair rail and up to the ceiling if it will fit.
2. I love the bird fabric but you’re right about the rug/bird fabric clashing. Is there a common brown or green that you could use to upholster the bed frame with. I don’t like bedskirts as a rule. They always seem to look sloppy. A bed frame like you have pictured would look very nice done in a soft brown leather with or without nailhead trim. You could probably get by with “faux leather” depending on looks and price.
What would you think about maybe a natural jute or burlap fabric? Personally I hate the feel of burlap but it’s not like you’d be rubbing your hands over it every day.
This would solve the too-much-wood issue without changing or introducing another color, just texture.
I like the mirror on the wall. It seems it would be easier to clean around. I don’t know if this is possible but is there such a thing as a slipcover for headboards? If so, you would have different options. If you get tired of one fabric, you would be able to switch it up. I love duvets with shams because I am able to change them on a whim. You are so talented and persistent! It is your home and I know whatever you choose, it will be beautiful!
I’m in the bird fabric on the headboard camp as well as the “please raise the mirror or put in the corner” gang. I don’t mind the change in the headboard as much as the mirror dangling over the wainscoting. I didn’t realize that it reflects the closet so yes, that’s out. But I’d hang it on the wall above the chair rail. That might not work for you as you’re shorter than I am. But we’re all different and it’s your home.
Geometric fabric and mirror on easel.
One more thought. Not sure if anyone mentioned this option, but how would it work to hang the mirror horizontally above the chair rail?
The stripe on the pillow on your bed would look fabulous as a headboard and dust ruffle. It brings in the rug and wall colors without fighting with anything else.
Don’t put the mirror in the corner; the reflection of your closet is problematic and makes a jumbled statement. Have you tried mounting it resting on the chair rail? So it almost touches the ceiling? Or maybe getting a mirror you could hang horizontally above the chair rail?
Teal headboard, beautiful bird pillows. Mirror on wall. Centered or cut trim so mirror is flush. Not corner.
I agree with a few others. The bird fabric for the curtains and the teal velvet for headboard and foot board. So luxurious! And use a contrasting (coral?) piping on the bed to emphasize the interesting shape. Mimic the headboard shape at the bottom except keep a straight line at the top instead of the middle arch. I know the velvet isn’t wide enough without seams but maybe put seams in every 8-10″ to give it a faux “channeled” look? You could even use a thin batting to give it that effect.
Eliminate the bench since the upholstered bed would be the star. Use the stripe for the large pillows. And the geometric teal or the green for the bolster pillow? What color are you using for the bedding? How does that play in? That’s a large part of the look I think! A very soft and subtle coral? Then change the lamps to green to pull in the curtains and dresser. Sorry–very wordy for a yes or no question…. 😉
You’re getting so close to completing this room, good job! Either headboard fabric will be pretty. However, having the base of the bed upholstered seem so heavy, almost monolithic, in the room. A bedskirt wouldn’t be so heavy looking, but just using the bed the way it is seems very nice to me. You’ll figure out what’s best.
Shades vs blinds and shutters.
Give the reason please
It’s just a matter of personal preference. I don’t like blinds or shutters. 🙂
Definitely the bird fabric for the headboard – the blue was lost against the grass cloth walls. I like the bird fabric the best and it makes the biggest impact on the headboard. I think everything in the first photo is perfect – wooden bed frame, etc.
Also, I like the mirror hanging – it fills the wall space and I think it’s cool how it extends through the wainscoting. An easel might be not so practical in the hall.
I Like the added colors from the reflection so Easel in the corner. Bird fabric and perhaps a tiny green checked material for skirt? Or solid green like the dresser color.
Teal for the bed. It gives you more options for accessories. I would use the bird fabric on the chair. But not the entire chair. I would use it on the seat cushion and the back cushion. Then upholster the rest of the chairman, sides, wrapped around including the bottom strip below the seat cushion. You could use the teal from the bed or another colour pulled from the bird fabric that would compliment the birds, bed and rug.
As for the mirror, I am unsure. Would the mirror fit if you turned it the other way?
Here are my thoughts:
I love the bird fabric and I would finish out the bed frame with either that green geometric fabric in the picture of a similar green. I don’t necessarily think the headboard and finish on the bed frame need to match. And I thought about finishing the bed in green before I saw the picture with all the finishes. Honestly, I think the teal fabric makes that side of the room too dark and too much teal. I know you said it gives you a moody vibe but to me it just feels dark and teal, even with lighter throw pillows and accents. I trust your instincts and I might change my mind when I see the final product, but right now I am just not feeling it.
I like the mirror where it is, centered of course (grin). And since you have screwed in the teal painted board to move the mirror out a little bit, what will you do with the holes in the grass cloth? Also, who, certainly not me, keeps their closet clean all the time? Walking in a seeing my messy closet reflected in the mirror would drive me nuts. I’d have to stop what I was doing and straighten up the closet because seeing a neat closet in the mirror would make me smile.
I’m replying to myself … LOL. I have gone back and read all the comments and man are there a lot of them. Kristi – the bottom line is that this is your and Matts bedroom and as long as you love it then it is perfect. Don’t lose any sleep over this, go with your gut and what makes your heart sing.
I vote the bird fabric for the headboard and a wood base for the bed. I love the cleaner, simpler look of that. If I were allowed to throw another fabric into the mix, I would say the bird fabric headboard and an orange ticking stripe bed skirt. I do like the geometric pattern fabric you have for the headboard. It looks very “you”, but I would have to see it next to the chair before I could vote for it. I think it could very easily not jive.
I like the mirror centered on the wall, rather than leaning in the corner.
You are so crazy talented. It will all come together just beautifully, as it always does!
I always love everything you do, but the mirror over the wainscoting, for me, is very distracting and takes away from the beauty of the wainscoting. Like another reader put it, “you turned right and I turned left”. It either needs to be above the wainscoting or somewhere else.
I know whatever you choose, it will be beautiful as always. I love the way your bedroom is coming together!
Teal geo (use the pretty bird print on your other bench at the foot of your bed) & large easel. The mirror is beautiful but to me, it looks odd hanging over the wainscotting. If your closet is messy (which I doubt it ever would be), who’s gonna be in your master suite to see it besides you & Matt?!
Now the big question is: if you use the easel, how will you repair the grass cloth where the board was mounted for the mirror? Staying tuned…..
I love both headboard fabrics. If you decide on bird headboard, how about the other headboard fabric for bed skirt. Like you, I do not like the wooden bed base.
The mirror — how about in easel on wall where now mounted. Not in the corner.
Based on your photo of the fabrics, I think the bird fabric looks fine with the rug. Notice I say ‘based on your photo’ because real life and photos aren’t the same. I prefer the bird fabric for covering the headboard and rather than a skirt, I’d like to see an upholstered footboard. You can paint narrow rails or a platform the background color of the fabric. The teal print is very nice but the amount of teal in the mockup makes the room look monotone.
As for the foyer mirror. I prefer it hanging on the wall. If it wasn’t centered then yes, center it.
My suggestions:
1) Use the bird fabric on the headboard and make some cording with the geometric blue print to edge it. Use the rest of the geometric blue for your bed frame/skirt. Now you have tied the two pieces together.
2) Leave the mirror but center it on the wall. If how it looks doesn’t bother you, then don’t worry about it. Do not have it reflect your closet. It will create visual chaos and take away from the simple elegance of the room.
It seems like you would be happier w/the teal headboard and bed surround covered the same. I love the bird fabric as accents: the pillows on the bed, the bench at the footboard, maybe a long narrow pillow on the chair and whatever other accents in this fabric.
I love the mirror, but it seems too big for the foyer, because I think it looks strange hanging over the wainscoting, and is it too long to center and hang above the wainscoting? Also, is it too wide to hang horizontally (my preference)? I don’t like it standing; it needs to be a floor mirror if so. It looks too large to me in this position. How about putting it horizontally on the long wall in the bedroom and put something else or another mirror on the foyer wall.
Trust me, I’m no expert, but could you use some of the bird fabric ti make a welt on the headboard? And/or a bit of trim on the bed skirt?
Also, I like the mirror on the wall. Centered or not. The reflection is distracting.
I knew this post would draw a LOT of comments! I counted votes for teal and bird and skipped comments without a choice or another option such as velvet. I counted 71 each for teal and bird! I may have missed some votes. A few said you wouldn’t see much of the bird fabric on the headboard with pillows in front of it. How high do you think the headboard will be? From the mock up I’m guessing at least 60 inches high and if that’s correct there would be plenty of headboard showing behind pillows. It will be fun to see what you decide.
Good morning,
Have you considered putting the bench on the mirror wall and the mirror on the bench wall? Just a thought.
I would use the blue star fabric for the headboard and center the mirror. That fabric blends just enough and commands just enough attention, and then the bird pillows show up more than if they were on a headboard themselves. As to the mirror, you say all the time that you don’t like to clean, or at least get distracted by other things (don’t we all?). You’d hate always having your closet on view!
Use the bird fabric on the headboard. It is classy. Could you make the bed ruffle out of velvet to match the drapes. Or match the chair.
Leave the mirror on the wall, maybe not even center it.
Easy peasy. The geometric material simply adds too much “pattern” in the room. The bedroom should be restful and quiet. That material screams. Save it for use in your family room once it is built. Please don’t junk up your bedroom.
I might be too late with my reponse, but:
1, bird fabric for the headboard and a solid color from that fabric for the rest of the bed
2, not angled in the corner. While I really like that mirror, I would just do a smaller mirror there above the trim.
Teal and easel! Love how this room is shaping up!😍
Definitely bird headboard! I was so sorry when you said you had decided against it. Personally I’d go for a wood base on the bed jut to avoid dust and pet hair
If not a wood bed frame, what about a padded linen frame with turned wood legs? I know you don’t love neutral, but there are so many colors going on, I personally think a little neutral here and there is needed and would add elegance. And linen would blend well with the light background of the bird fabric.
I really like the bird fabric, use it for the bed! Stain the wood base, it’ll be beautiful! I just wouldn’t use that orange border on the draperies next to the headboard. The velvet is gorgeous as is!
For the mirror, I love where it is, just centered 🙂 It’ll be much easier to keep the floor clean with it off the floor.
