Happy Monday to you! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Mine was filled with noise and dust, because I finally refinished the rest of my kitchen countertops…and re-sealed the countertops I had previously refinished. I’m feeling very motivated and energized in this Year of Completion (YOC) in my Tiny Little Condo (TLC)!!
If you’ll remember, before this weekend, my countertops were mismatched because I had only refinished the sink side.
Well, I don’t know that they turned out the color I wanted them, but at least now they match again, and I no longer have those pesky bleached spots.
|The frustrating thing is that now that they have all of the required coats of sealer on them, I think they look more like the original color! That’s not really what I wanted. I’m not sure how that happened since I used vastly different stain colors.|
|Oh well, at least they’re done. Now I just have to let them cure before I can use them.|
So now I have some touchups to do. Since I couldn’t find any painters tape, I got stain on the grout and caulk. It’s an easy fix. If you’ll remember, my grout is painted anyway! So some quick touchups will fix those spots.
And of course, the paint touchups will be a breeze.
So I’m thinking the color changed because of the sheen of the Waterlox that I used. When the countertop on the sink side just had one coat of rubbed-on Waterlox, it still had a very matte finish, and the color didn’t look so orange. The last coats I brushed on, which created a shinier finish, and it looks much more orange. So, I’m thinking I’ll just have to bite the bullet and purchase the matte finish Waterlox and do a final coat to get rid of the shiny sheen…and hopefully some of that orange color.
Oohhh…but I can think of a thousand things I’d rather spend that money on!!
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
