A Pink Wallpapered Walk-In Closet? Yes, Please!
Yesterday, I finally got to work on the floor in the hallway and bedroom. I’m so glad to finally be working on these rooms, and now that my whole plan is in place for the bedroom, everything has been ordered, and I just need to get the work done, I’m hoping it’ll be smooth sailing to the finish line.
In the meantime, I’m dreaming about my closet and laundry room combo. It’s no secret that of all the rooms on our house, that’s the one I’m the most excited about. I know it probably sounds crazy, but it’s true. I’ve never in my life had a large, organized walk-in closet, and I can’t stop thinking about it, dreaming about it, and planning it. And the best thing? Matt said he has no problem with the painting it PINK! 😀
If you’ll remember, when we bought this house, Matt said I could do pretty much anything I wanted to do to the house. He only had one rule. No pink walls.
I’ve definitely gotten as close to that line as I can without going over it. I put pink curtains in the living room…
I put darker pinkish raspberry curtains in the breakfast room/sitting room…
And I put a settee in a similar color under a huge pink flower in the music room…
In our bathroom, I found a wallpaper mural with just enough pink in it to make me happy while not technically having “pink walls”.
And of course, my studio is loaded with pink cabinets. Technically, this is my room, so if I had wanted to drench the whole thing in pink from top to bottom, he wouldn’t have cared. But I just stuck with the cabinets.
So to date, I’ve stuck with our agreement. We have no pink walls anywhere in our house. There’s plenty of pink elsewhere, but no pink walls. As a side note, Matt is partially color blind, so he can’t even see light pink. When I mentioned something to him about our pink living room curtains, he looked shocked and said, “Those are PINK?” He saw them as light gray. 😀 So pink has to be pretty saturated for him to even see it as pink. He hates hot pink, and I’m okay with that. Hot pink isn’t my favorite, either.
Anyway, all that to say that I very casually floated the idea of painting the closet pink, and he was totally fine with it! He said he’d never be in there anyway, so he didn’t care if it was pink. I could drench the whole thing in pink if I wanted to, and he’d be fine with it.
Oh my goodness. THIS IS MY CHANCE, y’all! 😀 This is it!
Okay, I’m just joking, kind of. I don’t know that I want a Barbie closet, but it really did get my wheels turning. My washer and dryer and navy blue (and this is my current and very gorgeous laundry room in the corner of the sunroom, i.e., the room that will be torn down completely)…
So now I’m leaning towards a combination of pink (or maybe a pinkish coral with a touch of orange in it since our bedroom will have orange in it) on the closet components and walls, the blue washer and dryer, and a wallpaper on the ceiling to pull it all together.
I was looking for pink closet inspiration, and while there’s not a lot out there (imagine that! 😀 ), I did find a few. I don’t know that I’d want mind quite this saturated, but I do love this color. It has that slight touch of orange in it that makes it lean almost coral…
I’ve never used wallpaper on the ceiling before, and this is probably the only chance I’ll ever get. And since closets generally have so much of the walls covered with clothes and other stored items, the ceiling is the perfect place to bring in some multi-colored pattern.

I also need to find a fun pendant light to hang over my tiny little center island cabinets. There’s a ceiling fan in there right now, which is an absolute must for a bedroom in central Texas. But I don’t need a ceiling fan in a closet/laundry area. So it’ll be fun to choose a little piece of “jewelry” for my closet.
I do love this, too. I really like the stark contrast of the white cabinets with the pink ceiling. But y’all know me by now. You know I’m just not a white cabinet kind of person.

Anyway, it’s fun to dream about, and I can’t wait to get started! Finally being able to work on the closet/laundry area combo will be my reward for staying focused and getting the bedroom done. But at least for now, I can do some dreaming and planning. I need to see if I can find the perfect pink/navy blue or coral/navy blue wallpaper to bring this plan all together for the ceiling.
UPDATE:
Y’all! Look at this one!!!
That combo of the light, bright, floral wallpaper on the ceiling, and the light pink on the closet components and walls is so pretty! I might want a bit more saturation to the pink (or coral), but not much. Just a touch more would do it for me. Here’s another view of that amazing closet.
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
I am so excited for you, with the approximately 10 million colors out there in our world, I do expect you to have some fun with this closet. And thanks for the wallpaper on the ceiling mention…I had wanted some wallpaper in our closet, but with all the cabinetry, I had nowhere to put it except behind all the clothes…viola, Kristi to the rescue, now we’re cooking with peanut oil.
I cannot wait to see what color combinations you come up with. Go get ’em girlie.
Cheers!
I also kept trying to find space on the walls for wallpaper, but I don’t want to find fabulous wallpaper and then cover up most of it with hanging clothes and drawers. But there’s always that fifth wall that most of us tend to forget.
Since you are thinking about pink for your closet, I think you should check out this video of a pink and green – all over – house, with a cute pink kitchen. It is a masterclass in pink. Can I fit pink some more times in this pink comment? Pink! Pink! Pink!
Ha! I’m subscribed to Design Daddy. How did I miss the PINK HOUSE?? 😆 So many ideas I want to copy, but now I especially want rose quartz countertops. I need $40,000 so I can have rose quartz countertops!! 😭 Those are so beautiful!!
This might be too hot pink for you but it’s the first one that came to mind when I read the headline: https://www.wallpaperfromthe70s.com/wallpaper-mambo-pink?sPartner=g3&cur=USD&country=US&srsltid=AfmBOorShG4ipNQzWmii6xyXqblqgM9UYLmW0u8j7Q1KRDMG3U3wi34_Zyw
And it has BIRDS!!! I love it!
It also has navy and sage green colorways, in case you want to limit the pink to the flowers. 🙂
I use navy, coral, and teal in my house and it’s a beautiful look! Can’t wait to see what you come up with
You work so hard on your house and taking care of Matt. I’m glad you’re rewarding yourself with the closet of your dreams.
I’m not a fan of white anything either. But as a color analyst for clothing correct lighting for clothing is a must. Ever notice how the fluorescent lighting in stores changes the true color of items? Lucky us There are so many choices for light bulbs nowadays to help with that. But do remember the color of your cabinetry will also reflect and possibly change the colors you will be seeing in this room. Food for thought
This is a very good point. I hadn’t thought of it.
Wonderful plan! I follow an account on instagram, it’s called @thehousethatcolourbuilt, they have a new baby and the ceiling of the nursery is a dream.
Can’t wait to follow the progress of your suite!
I just looked it up. It’s amazing!
Kristi, go for it! We wallpapered our closet ceiling with a light blue floral and painted the walls light blue. I love walking in every day! I stayed a little restrained because my clothes are already rainbow colored.
That has been my one concern. I don’t only love color in my home, but I have lots of color in my wardrobe. And in my clothing and shoes, I branch out beyond the colors that I decorate with. I don’t want anything clashing. To me, navy blue is a neutral, but pink, not so much. That’s why I’m leaning more towards a light pink or light coral that might read more neutral. I think that will be less distracting against my colorful wardrobe than a more saturated pink or coral.
good ventilation needed for dryer so wallpaper doesn’t separate. But that will look REALLY COOL!
So technically, when he asked for no pink walls he meant no hot pink walls, as soft pink would be the equivalent of gray. 😉
Pretty much! Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that he couldn’t see light pink until after most of the main rooms were finished. I didn’t realize he couldn’t see the pink in the living room curtains until just about a year ago. He was so shocked when I mentioned the pink living room curtains! And I was shocked that HE was shocked! 😀 I could have been painting the whole house light pink all this time and he never would have known it! 😀
My first house I had a pink primary bedroom. It was the last room we painted before moving in and I was out of ideas. I was thinking a redish brown, and well that is actually pink. My ex was so done with painting, he said no re-painting and starting taking up the tape and paper. It turned out a dusty rose pink and I loved it. He was also color blind. As for wallpaper on my ceiling I just put some up in my hallway and just ordered some for the bedroom ceiling. Ended up getting fabric because it was less expensive. Enjoy designing that dream closet.
I cannot see the wallpaper 😭
Just that frowny face that means “it didn’t load” or whatever.
Love the one in the update. It screams, “Kristi!”
LOL my Grandmother painted ALL rooms in her Long Island New York house light pink back in the 60’s. My Grandfather apparently didn’t object. Matt is a one in a million!
You should check out Signed Blake’s closet. It’s pink and and the wallpaper even has birds.

I like the very last one with the light pink. It looks perfect. The ceiling too. Have you figured out where to put your electric box yet? Also, where will the water heater go once you tear down the sun room?
I just went down the rabbit hole of dressing room/ closet ideas and now I am dizzy. Such lovely ideas.
I saw one example of pink that was nice. “Lisa Dorn” is the name listed. I think even a paler pink then what she shows would be better so that it ‘reads’ neutral, given that you probably have a colorful selection of clothes. Leaning a tad toward coral? Lighting will be all important. Her example shows the interiors of some of the open shelves were painted a deeper pink. That added a little drama.
A fun papered ceiling? How delightful! That scaffold will earn its keep.
Make yours fun! (I’ll read all the other comments later.)
I adore the closet in the link you shared. I fell in love instantly and now have severe closet envy. Gorgeous!
As someone who is also a bit colorblind (red-green, rare for women), I am sensitive to Matt’s not perceiving pinks very well. It’s taken me years of looking at colors to figure out undertones, tints and shades. Some are easy (yellos-blue), others not so much. Good luck figuring out your color scheme. Such fun to see your progress!
Didn’t you buy a wallpaper mural from Anthropologie for this room?
Love the idea of the wallpaper on the ceiling, wish I had a space to try it! One thought about the removal of the fan in the closet/laundry, you might look for a pretty “fandelier”. I know here in GA in the summer it can get warm in the laundry room when the appliances are both running and it’s hot outside. There are many options out there and the fan is hidden unless you’re using it.
I love that last closet but agree that I wish it had a slightly darker shade of pink. It reminded me of this apartment where I think I looked at the pictures of her colorful furniture etc. multiple times before I realized the entry and living room walls were pale peachy pink.

One more pink closet, a little smaller and no fab ceiling but a great color and light fixture.

This one is pretty with the gold accents with the pink!

My favorite color is pink, and I absolutely LOVE that soft pink with the floral ceiling! Go for it, Kristi!
I love everything about this except getting rid of your ceiling fan in your closet/laundry room. I’m in Oklahoma and I desperately need a ceiling fan in the places where I’m gonna have a hot dryer and where I’ll be working with hot clothes right out of the dryer. Maybe you could find a fandelier? I have a fandelier in my bedroom and I have to admit, I LOVE it. Just a thought from a gal who lives in HOT Oklahoma. 🙂
I agree, I live in the “Valley of the Sun” in AZ and without a fan, it will be hot and even more humid! Find a fan you like and you will not be disappointed.
Think again about the ceiling fan if you have laundry you fold before you put away, air movement can be a blessing. Also, even while vented outside, dryers still do put off some heat while running that tends to warm up spaces.
To me, closets are SO FUN! However, I’ll add a caveat and an example… When we moved into our house, it was builder grade everything. All the walls and closets were painted with a light brown, roasted marshmallow type color. And since they contract out the painting, it was not great – ESPECIALLY in the closets. Every shelf and cubby had a rough, gritty feeling. YUCK!!! And to top it all off – a nice BROWN glass boob light. So brown walls and a brown light, I feel like I couldn’t get the true colors of my clothes! I was determined to redo my closet. I sanded everything down SMOOTH. Repainted everything white to reflect the light with a bright teal ceiling! And a sparkly crystal light fixture to bring some fun bling. I considered other colors, but I honestly thought any color, especially dark, would make it hard to see what color my clothes are.
I get that you just bought a new GE washer and dryer … but have you checked out the new GE Profile 4.8 cu ft ventless heat pump combo washer/dryer that came out in June 2024?
The reviews are outstanding (check out Yale Appliance Blog) and it’s energy efficient. This will eliminate the need for a dryer vent in the exterior wall (helping keep your house tight) and decrease the dustiness associated with a typical dryer (the combined water/air filter is located in the upper left front and ideally should be cleared with each use). It is a bit taller than normal (48.7”), so your cabinets will need to be designed around it. One downside is that it only comes in the color carbon graphite (but TVs are a neutral, right?).
Just think … you don’t need to stack your current washer and dryer, no standing on tip toes to reach into a drum, and you won’t need to transfer laundry from the washer to the dryer ever again! Oh, and they’re on sale right now. Does your mom need a newish navy blue washer and dryer?
P.S. I’m in love with the cloisonné ceiling wallpaper.
