Condo Bedroom Condo Breakfast Room

An Utterly Humiliating Realization (and a Desperate Need For Window Treatments)

Have you ever lived with a mess so long that you become accustomed to it? Perhaps an ever-growing stack of papers in the corner of your home office that you’ve promised yourself you’ll get to, but has now become a permanent fixture on the desk? Boxes that you stacked in the corner the day you moved into your new home, that you swore you would unpack the second you had a free moment, and now two years later, have taken up permanent residence in that corner?

Well, that’s exactly how I am with my tiny little condo. We’ve been remodeling and fixing up for so long, living with unfinished projects as we scrape together money to finish them one by one (and sadly, with almost nothing finished yet), that I’ve become accustomed to it. I have a “to do” list a mile long, and somewhere on the list (probably around number 40 or 45) is “gorgeous window treatments”.

But then yesterday happened. I was going about my normal routine, running errands, when I pulled up in my parking space, which is just outside our bedroom window, when suddenly, on that day, in that moment, reality hit me. It was as if I actually REALIZED what I’ve been looking at everyday (and sadly, what everyone else has been looking at). I really can’t even believe that I’m going to show you this. It’s absolutely humiliating!! But here it is:

Yes, that’s my bedroom window. And the office window, which is right next to the bedroom window, isn’t much better. Oh…my…gosh. HUMILIATING!!

Why am I just NOW realizing that people can see this?

Until yesterday, I had been living in some kind of delusion that our remodeling mess was hidden from the world–safely behind closed doors and windows. But now I realize that that’s far from the truth! It’s bad enough that I’m still living with metal (yes, METAL) blinds on three of my windows–bedroom, office, and dining area–but it’s even WORSE that my cats have completely destroyed them.

It’s clear that “window treatments” absolutely MUST be moved to the top of the “to do” list somewhere–at least around #3 or #4.

And while I would now like to crawl in a hole somewhere and hide my face in utter humiliation, I realize there is no time for that. I must press on. My condo needs me. And no doubt, my neighbors are anxious for this to be taken care of.

Okay, so I’ve confesssed. Now how about you? What are those messes and unfinished projects that you’ve become accustomed to, but really need some attention? Perhaps we should form a group and have some accountability. 🙂

Oh, and I do actually have plans for my windows! This is just a little preview–the fabric I’ve purchased for my living room windows.

We do get blind to what we "see" every day.

Can't wait to see the completed project – the fabric is gorgeous.

It could be worse. It could still be framed with last year's Christmas lighting. I see those once in a while.

At least you are spending time working on projects for clients. I don't have that excuse.

I have several such projects in the works STILL. I don't really think about them that much until someone comes in and I start seeing it through their eyes. They may not actually notice, but in my mind they are aghast that there are still no baseboards in the upstairs hallway, some of the crown molding hasn't been caulked and painted, etc. And still, I continue to start more projects…..

I'm totally with you, we've lived in our house for 10 months now – the other day a computer repair guy came over and asked if we had just moved in. Sad! BTW, love that fabric – mind sharing the design?

I feel your pain. Two years ago we had new interior doors installed. They were preprimed white. The woodwork in the house is white so I didn't feel rushed to get them painted. Well, two years later they are still not painted. I just realized recently that they are looking dirty and kind of discolored compared to the woodwork. I had thought I would paint them when I got caught up. I will never be caught up! Where did I put that paint?

Okay, y'all…it looks like it's time to get started on some projects!! Let's get out our tools, our paintbrushes, roll up our sleeves, and get strted!

Liz, I actually don't know the pattern name or company name for the fabric. It's actually not one of mine. (Yes, I have hundreds of fabric books, but I found this somewhere else.) 🙂 I'll be going to the fabric store where I purchased it either today or tomrrow, so I'll ask for you.

The fabric is divine and I'm sure anyone on the outside would just assume you have spunky kitties :). I'm sure it will look fab when you're done!

He he he 🙂 I have about 3 sets of blinds that look like that from my kitties. I just try to keep them pulled up a little.

I'm with Liz, would love to know about the fabric. I have a diaper bag made out of the fabric, and would love to have more for more projects. If you find out anything else about it. Let us know.

I think I found it! Braemore's Somerset in Jade – What do you think?

(It looked really similar to another Braemore fabric that I had – Apriana in Confetti – so I thought I'd give it a search).
