Ceiling Light Options For Our Bedroom Foyer
Last night, I started searching for lighting options for our bedroom foyer. One thing I noticed immediately is that I’m immediately drawn to three specific styles of lighting — sputnik lights, bubble lights, and capiz shell lights. Those are always the ones that catch my eye, but I already have all of those in our house and I don’t really want to repeat any of those in the bedroom foyer. So I tried to move beyond those and see if there was anything else that I really liked.
It’s challenging to find unique lighting when you have eight-foot ceilings and have to work within such a limited and defined height. But I was able to find a few that I found really interesting. I started with about 20 lighting options, but then narrowed them down to the following few.
First, let me remind you that this is going in the bedroom foyer. I don’t remember exactly how big that foyer is, but I think it measures about 9 feet by 8 feet or close to that. The lower walls are white wainscoting, and the upper walls will be teal grasscloth wallpaper. As of yesterday morning, this is what the foyer looked like, so you’ll have to imagine the upper walls being teal. And keep in mind that this picture was taken on a wide-angle setting, which makes the area look bigger than it really is.

The first one is this brass leaf dome semi-flush light from Wayfair (affiliate link) Obviously, I love this one because I love anything that uses one item in a repeated fashion, so a light with 100+ gold leaves is right up my alley.

Next up, I love this semi-flush light with the glass balls from Wayfair (affiliate link). Again, it’s a variation on that same theme of one item used 100+ times.

This next one is completely different and breaks from that theme. I love the shape of this semi-flush bowl light from Wayfair.

And then the final two are very similar with different shapes. I really like the bold look of this one, and I think it would look amazing with the teal upper walls. I also like how the shape would kind of echo the shape I have planned for the headboard in the bedroom. This light is from Home Depot (affiliate link).

And the final option is another variation on that theme, except that it’s all curves with no straight sides. This one is from Wayfair.

Those are the five options I’ve narrowed it down to. I do want a light that will make a statement since it’s the foyer to our entire bedroom suite. At the same time, I have limited space not only because I only have eight-foot ceilings, but I also have to work around the rather large intake duct for our HVAC, and that takes up quite a bit of space on the ceiling.
Right now, I really don’t have a favorite among those five, but I do wonder if the first one with the leaves might not be bright enough. Obviously, the leaves wouldn’t let the light filter through very well, but I think it would cast the light up and off of the white ceiling. I’m not sure if that would be enough, though. But as far as the style, I really love all five. I feel confident that I’ll choose one of these five lights, but I’m not quite ready to select the one.

# 3 or 4. I like #3 a bit better.
One and two will cast off strange light, if this is where your mirror is going to be, I think you want better lighting. The last one seems too juvenile to me.
Totally agree with everything that Lori said.
Diana
I love the leaves light. But not in here where you will need good lighting. I also love the crystal ball light. However, you have too much on your plate to worry about cleaning it. The last two do not have enough pizzazz. I like number 3. It looks good when looking from the music room and the eye goes from the lovely hand painted walls into the foyer. It also gives good light and the gold color will show of against the teal of the upper walls.

I like #3 the best also. The crystal one would be a nightmare to clean.
I like #3 because you will get more light from top to bottom.
Mirror? In the hallway?
I like the way fair one because it gives off more light which I think will be important with the dark teal grass cloth. It’s also simpler which will let one focus on the interesting closet and lovely grass cloth.
I love three, it will repeat the white of the wainscoting. It’s going to be a beautiful bedroom foyer.
Def #3 it gives good light and there’s a lightness to it so to speak, since it’s not so close to the ceiling. It will also look pretty close to your new closet. The last one has a really heavy look with the gold frame around it.
I love the one with the leaves! The others all seem very similar to what you have elsewhere in the house or have picked and replaced before. The leaf one is definitely a statement piece that will look amazing!
I’m team leaves too!
I’d avoid the light with all the crystal balls. It will look great for a while, and then it will collect dust, dull, and be hard to clean. You are probably right about the one with the leaves not providing enough light. The other three are attactive and any one of them will look good in the space.
I actually really like four of the five but ultimately I would go with 4 or 1. I like #1 because of the uniqueness, that finish would be stunning against the teal wallpaper but agree with you that I’m not sure it would put out enough light. I’d read the reviews to see if that is addressed in any of them. I love #2 but those glass balls would throw prisms all over the walls and that would drive me personally bat crazy. #3 will put out the most light but to me it is too plain, just not unique enough. I love the shape and look of #4 which is why I finally landed on it after an lot of back and forth but I do have concerns about how much light it will put out. And I just don’t like the shape of #5 so that one was easy to eliminate for me. It will be fun to see what you choose, good luck. You are going to get a lot of opinions 🙂
When I saw the first one, I thought, I could see Kristi making something like this herself which would be neat. If I were to pick something for my own house, number 3 would be my choice. I love it.
Leafy #1 is stunning, ties in with the flower light in the closet, and will likely be too dim. How about adding a few strategically placed wall sconces?
I like the last two best, and the third one, with the “arms” is my second runner up. My first pick is the one from Home Depot (shaped like your headboard.) But I really don’t see anything wrong with the current one, except that you may be bored with it! I say save the money and keep what you have!
I too like the current one – it looks classy to me, has enough detail but not too much. However, I understand that it may be time for a new fixture.
I liked the leaf one (thinknit goes with the nature theme wall paper seen in the closet) goes for that moody look you mentioned, but as you said the point of putting a light in there was to add more light.
Then I like the last flower shaped, and the multi-globed (3rd from last?) next, as a nod to the closet wallpaper.
They’re all lovely, but I think #3 looks the most fitting for your space, both practically and style-wise.
Everything is looking beautiful!
It’s #three for me….. love the shadow it casts on the ceiling…..also… I feel it compliments your closet mirror frame and sconces…. Bob’s Gal
I love 3 and 4. I agree with you that the first one would probably not give you enough light, unless you put in that Sonotube skylight you’ve previously mentioned.
I love the one with glass balls. I think it would give you more light!😊😊😊
Please look for the dandelion light. I saw it at a resell mall in hot springs arkansas. It’s very chic and petite but lots of interest. I think you could make it. They sell it on Amazon.
Since this is going to be the area with your dressing mirror, you’re definitely going to want something that brightens the area. I agree with you that I don’t think the first option will allow much light. The last two look like the light is pretty diffused, too. Definitely the bubble one and the semi-bowl (capiz look) would get my vote, with the semi-bowl being my favorite.
I do like your current light fixture but understand you wanting something different. I love the first light fixture and how it would tie in with the chandelier in the closet. If you are still thinking about wall sconces, I wouldn’t worry about this fixture not giving off enough light. I think a darker, moodier feeling in the foyer would be great. The second bubble fixture is 15″ tall which I would not use with an 8′ high ceiling. The third fixture is very pretty. I don’t care for the shape of the fourth fixture. The fifth fixture seems too cutesy with the daisy shape. It will be fun finding out which fixture you select!
Number 4 ….the shape echoes the trim..the brass will look awesome against teal wallpaper…
Didn’t you make a light very similar to 4 for the music room at one point? 4 & 5 both seem dark to me. Like even in the photos they seem dark. 1 seems to repeat elements you have elsewhere in the house too much–the closet light, the studio light, your spoon pinwheel art piece. The shape seem repetitive to me. I like 2, but agree with the above commenter…I wouldn’t choose it just do to cleanability. I really like 3 though. It seems to fit your vibe to me and looks light and bright. It has 4 bulbs and is dimmable. Perfect for your foyer, light when you need it bright when checking an outfit, etc but can still be moody and cozy in the evening when wanted. I actually may buy that for my kitchen to replace the boob light I’ve been staring at for 5 years! LOL
Number 3 or 4 for me. Although I really like #1, I think it’s too similar in motif to the one you’ve made for your dressing room and would hate for something to detract from that.
Lights 1 & 3 are my favorites out of the 5 options. The first one with the leaves lit me up! Exciting to see this area coming together.
The pictures of the last two make the light diffuser panels look yellowish. I wonder if it really is? I didn’t like the way the light you have in there looks yellow around the bulb holders too but maybe it just looks that way in photos. I love the gold and white one if the shapes won’t throw off strange light around the room. The glass ball one is pretty but I agree with others that it will need dusting pretty often, altho most of the time a swish around all of it with a swiffer will be enough. Every now and then it will need to be taken down to handwash all the crystals. Do you feel like you’d want to do that? I know you work on ladders all the time right now but sometime in the future you won’t be wanting to get on ladders to clean lights very often as it gets more dangerous. I look forward to seeing what you find for this room because I too feel like this is a an entryway that deserves a pretty light.
The one from Home Depot is my favorite as it is a statement piece that will not be the center of attention. I think it allows all the lovely elements that you are going to use also be statements that works all together without one of the features overpowering the rest. I like that light as it repeats the headboard design, it will be like a painting that catches the eye and then as you move closer you see all the elements that makes the painting. With all that said, you choose what makes your heart and eyes sing.
Which one gives the most light? This area doesn’t have any natural light, so the overhead light will need to be strong enough. I like the second and third choices. Those glass baubles on the one from Wayfair would reflect lots of light, imho. Can’t wait to see YOUR choice!
Ooh, I saved the last two to my lighting board – really like them! I agree the leaf one is probably not going to provide enough illumination and is more of an atmospheric lighting. I’d choose #4 for you if I had my druthers 🙂
Leaves!
Followed by #3.
I think anything but the first two would work well. The first one won’t cast enough light. The second is too glam for your style. The rest are transitional, which fits well with your style.
I absolutely love #1 but I think it might not be bright enough in the foyer and it is going to cast patterned shadows. It would be great over a dining table. #2 is a meh for me, #4 & 5 are kind of stodgy looking.
I think #3 is the best choice in this context, bright enough for the space and with enough details to be interesting.
#3
Personally, I like #3 the very best. 😁😁 But since it isnt going into my home, whatever you choose will be fabulous as usual.
First I thought number three, but then decided on number four because it would pick up the color of the floor better
First off, they are all perfect, so you are good to go there. I get the 8-foot ceilings, and I have that 6’8″ spouse that I don’t want him to hit his head, so I feel your pain. I have a favorite, and it is the one with the sparkly little balls. I may drive a tractor and mess with chickens for a living, but I still love glamour, can’t blame a girl for loving her bling. You’ll pick the right one as you always do, can’t wait to see what you go with.
Cheers to you, Matt, and the fur muffins!
Love ’em all, but 3 and 5 are my favorites.
No to #1 & 2
No to #4 &5
Yes to #3!! Gives out enough light for the foyer.
I think #3 will work best with the room.
I vote #2 and then #3. I agree that #1 may not be bright enough. Numbers 4 & 5 aren’t striking enough.
Mayfair #3
#4! Both #3 and #4 are different from all your other lights and really beautiful. I like them for different reasons but #4 against the teal grasscloth would be stunning.
My favorite is the semi-flush bowl light from Wayfair. My second choice is the ball one.
1 and 3 are my favorites, 4 and 5 are okay, and I really don’t like 2 … If you’re looking for votes. 😂
I love the one that’s sold out but I like them all; I agree with the leaves one. I need more light in my walk in closet . Currently it’s got the 1980s flush mount with about a candle’s worth of light🙃😬
We have a skylight in there but we use a blanket in the summer to keep the temperature down. Az is 🥵 in summer!!
Have you considered/looked at a stained-glass light fixture?
#3!!!
Definitely #3…very classy but also lower maintenance.
I love #3.
I like your choices! I agree that the first one might not be bright enough (I like lots of light.) I just wanted to mention that Possini Euro lighting might have something you’d like. I think that Lamps Plus carries the most Possini. I used some wire-cage bathroom lights that were awesome and have also bought ceiling lights and an island piece from Possini, and I have to say that everyone who looked at our last house when we sold it was struck by the lighting. The realtor said that she got lots of questions about them, their brand, etc. The awesome foyer piece I bought is no longer offered. However, when I took a quick look, there’s one on Lamps Plus right now that has a modern sort of star burst design in bronze flush against the ceiling with one globe hanging down that reminds me of you. Another one below it is also close to the ceiling in a half sphere shape covered with transluscent blossoms. Anyway, if for any reason none of your 5 ends up being just right, check out Possini.
Number 3 is perfect.
#3 hands down!
I absolutely love #3, because it mimics the flower theme. It will also give you the vest light. I don’t think number one will give enough light, #2 is beautiful but would need to get dusted constantly, the last two are nice, but don’t make enough of a statement as #3 does. The third one just looks like it was made especially for you, to go in that area.
I agree with you on the first one, so personally I’d go ahead and eliminate it from the selection. #2 will probably be gorgeous when lit, and reflect a lot of lot in what might be a dark area because of the teal wallpaper. Any of the four left are really beautiful but I think #2 and #3 are stand outs!
I am partial to #1 because I have owned this ceiling fixture fir mire than 10 years. Mine has three light bulbs and is used in my circular 8’ diameter foyer. We have it on a dimmer and it is very bright ambient light when on high and low light most nights as the powder room is also close.
I also love #4
It’s great to hear from someone who has this fixture installed in their home in a similar size room and can say how much light it gives off. It is my favorite of the 5 Kristi posted.
Once a every few months I walk around my house and dust my baseboards and to be honest the only time I “dust” the light is when I just look up and see a fine spider dust web. So this gets dusted less than the baseboards !
I like the third one. Very bright, beautiful shape and kinda hugs the ceiling. Four, and five have too much metal (or painted acrylic) and not enough light. The brass looks cheap to me since it appears to be a brushed brass, not a shiny finish. Actually, based on the product specifications, I’m not sure it is brass at all.The bottoms of them look like cheap plastic. Needs to be glass for the light to shine through. #3 is also plastic.
I love the “Elziabeth Glass Flush Mount” By Rosdorf Park. It is a flush mount and the white pieces are glass, not acrylic. Bonus: It’s cheaper! Not as big as the others but the smaller size in comparison to the foyer space would make the space larger visually. So would “Austwell Glass Flush Mount”. Both of these are at Wayfair.
One and two are cleaning nightmares. Neither are great functional light sources.
Four and five are meh to me. They seem visually heavy.
Number three is classy and will give the light you need. Easy to maintain.
#4 from Home Depot is my fav followed by #3 then #5.
I vote for #3
I love the matrix decor light from Home Depot. Very classic, with a smooth simple design.
My fav is the one from Home Depot. It’s classy and different.
Going for 3 as well it`s got the gold a fabulous shape giving good even light, and will look amazing against the Teal wallpaper,
