The Good News…
We finally moved into our house!!! Since our new mattress and our fridge had been delivered, we figured we had all of the bare essentials that we needed, so we loaded up the cats, the dog, and a few other essentials, and we headed over. After two months of waiting while I refinished the floors, and then we waited for things to be delivered, it’s been so good to finally be there.
The Bad News…
Our first night there, the temperature in Waco dipped into the 40s, and our house got COLD. I don’t think we’ve truly realized how good we had it at the condo. Our section of the building has six condos — three on bottom and three on top — and we’re the bottom middle condo. We seldom have to turn on our heat, even during the dead of winter, because we’re so well insulated by the other condos.
Now we’re in the house (and an old house at that!), and we don’t have heat yet. We have an ancient furnace that needs to be serviced before we can use it, so I guess we’ll need to get on that ASAP! In the meantime, my mom and sister have loaned us two portable heaters to use in the house on cold nights. And hopefully by next summer, we’ll have that furnace replaced with an updated HVAC system.
The Unbearable News…
We don’t have internet at the house, and we won’t for a week-and-a-half. *GASP* And when Matt told the Time Warner people that I’m a full-time blogger and website designer, and that I really needed internet NOW, they were completely unsympathetic. Can you believe that? 😀 We never quite realize how dependent we are on the internet until it’s gone.
So anyway, I hope to pop in here a couple of time between now and then while I’m over here at the condo, but I can’t promise anything. My time here is supposed to be spent getting this place ready to put on the market, so I probably shouldn’t be on my computer too much. But hopefully that will mean that I’ll have lots to share with y’all when we finally do get internet!

Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
I hope you’ll join me on my DIY and decorating journey! If you want to follow my projects and progress, you can subscribe below and have each new post delivered to your email inbox. That way you’ll never miss a thing!

October 22, 2013 at 11:08 amWhile both my PC and laptop were infected with a “flu” at the same time, I used the College Center computers and really enjoyed the challenge. It did make the realization of our dependence on them acute and the lag between having and not, caused me to slow down. It was a good thing. But then, my livelihood is only partially dependent on them. We’ll look forward to seeing you soon. Deep breaths!

October 22, 2013 at 12:24 pmTypical life dance, a few steps forward and a couple back. I am going through withdrawal symptoms just thinking about being disconnected for a week and a half! May you keep warm and enjoy this new home immensely.

October 22, 2013 at 12:32 pmNever a dull moment when moving. Take some time to settle into your new home. We will still be here when you get back. I hope the rest of your moving, selling and “House Warming”go smoothly.

October 22, 2013 at 12:58 pmOh, that sucks! So sorry that it’s soo cold, but congrats on getting moved in finally! You’d be surprised what those little heaters can do if you have enough or at least close the room off you are using it in.
Waiting for internet to get turned on is a right of passage for all newly moved families, so no big deal! Enjoy your time off!

October 22, 2013 at 1:48 pmKristi how in the world are you going to find a good company to service your furnace without internet? Just kidding, but when ours is down, even for a little while it is hard to conduct routine household business!

October 22, 2013 at 2:31 pmI feel ya! We’ve moved into a rental while our house is being built and we aren’t hooking up tv or internet! We haven’t even broken ground yet and are supposed to have flurries tomorrow. Yikes, whatever will I do?
Can’t wait to see how the house looks with all your belongings.

October 22, 2013 at 2:54 pmYay! Congratulations on your move.
Internet providers…..ugh!

October 29, 2013 at 2:58 pmWell…I guess I’m biased since my husband is an internet provider. But, really? Ugh?

October 22, 2013 at 3:09 pmSo many parallels Kristi. My condo too is sandwiched between other condos and my new old house which also has a ton of windows is about 13 degrees cooler!

October 22, 2013 at 4:17 pmCongrats on getting moved into your new home! May it become the home of your dreams and an inspiration to all of us.
Sorry you’re so cold. Hopefully, you can find a furnace guy quickly to come and get your heating unit blowing some nice warm air. (I’m shocked that you’re seeing such cool temps this early.)
Lastly, sorry about no internet connection. That stinks but doesn’t surprise me. There are only 2 companies that service our small community and getting either of them to do anything quickly seems impossible. It is frustrating and a pain! At least you might have a chance to finish painting and getting your condo set up to sell – just trying to look on the bright side. : )

October 22, 2013 at 4:45 pmHi
Glad you finally got moved in. You’ll be glad of the disconnect while getting everything set up and in place. It’ll be your blogging vacation. Lol. Can’t wait to see you set up with your belongings. Cheers

October 22, 2013 at 5:27 pmHappy to hear you moved! Since I’m very selfish and would miss reading your great posts, I’m suggesting to try the public library if there is one close by and you miss us to much as well :0). Most have free Wi-Fi. Hopefully you’ll have heat soon.

October 22, 2013 at 6:51 pmSo happy you got moved in. While I’m already in withdrawal, I’ll be very patient and will find your blog even more exciting when it comes again. You need a week and a half for concentrating on other things.

October 22, 2013 at 8:37 pmHave you tried using your cell phone as a wi-fi hot spot?

October 22, 2013 at 8:38 pmI can relate, our a/c went out a month after we bought the house, followed by our water heater. The a/c we knew was on it’s last leg but we thought we’d make it through the end of summer just fine. Surprise! Houston in September with no a/c…not so fun. Hopefully your portable heaters will take the worst of the chill of the house.
No internet, that should be a crime!!!

October 23, 2013 at 4:13 pmIf it makes you feel any better, TW was up the pole in front of the house last night……WELL after dark!!! Maybe they are trying to hurry…..
Blessings and congrats on getting moved in!

October 28, 2013 at 6:04 pmCongratulations on moving to your new home! Too bad your going to be out of the internet for so long, I am so addicted to my computer the thought of not have access to the internet can give me anxiety! Although, you’ll have enough things to distract you with the move. Good Luck!

October 28, 2013 at 9:07 pmI miss you….. : )

October 29, 2013 at 3:25 pmI’m sure we can all wait while those days fly by (drag!!) So take this non-distracting time and get the condo up and ready in record time, get it on the market (way before Christmas) and enjoy your new home. Good luck and why not get a log burner fitted into one room and get cosy and warm during this coming winter.

October 29, 2013 at 6:35 pmI spoke with my husband, a CEO of a small rural telecom. Since telecommunications companies do far more than hook up internet for new customers, generally they need a two week window to provide new service. It’s great to use your blog to help make consumers aware of how they can make moving much easier by contacting all utilities ahead of time.

October 30, 2013 at 4:31 pmSo sorry you can’t connect to the net from your house, but hopefully it won’t be long until they get it working for you! Glad you can pop in now and then from your condo. Hey, you’re making headway – you’ve moved! And that’s good news.
