Bedroom Suite Progress — The Grasscloth Wallpaper Is Finished!
The grasscloth wallpaper in the bedroom suite is finished!!! I still need to finish up some details, like covering light switch plates. And I still have to do the tiny trim inside the closet doorway where the wallpaper meets the trim on the closet side of the doorway. But the grasscloth is done.
I didn’t have time yet to lighten that one strip to the right of the closet doorway. I do still plan to do that, so hopefully, it’ll blend in a little better with the piece to the right of it when it’s done. But for now, I’m going to show you the whole area with very little commentary. I’ll start with the foyer and then head into the bedroom.

I will just say that I did have to use separate pieces for the top jamb of the doorway. That was the only way to keep the widths of the wallpaper consistent. But I think it turned out really well. If I didn’t point it out, I don’t think anyone would know that the pieces on the wall and the pieces that wrap around the top jamb are separate pieces.

Also, I keep forgetting that I need to finish the foyer ceiling where I had to repair it after moving the light fixture over. But that’s not important right now. This is all about the walls. And that’s all the explanation I have for this tour. I really am going to shut up and just let y’all look through the pictures without my commentary.

I’m so glad to have this huge project finished, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But I tried to take my time and get it as perfect as possible, especially since this was my first time installing grasscloth the correct way. And it had been over 10 years since I installed grasscloth the last time when I installed it the improper way. (I literally used spray adhesive the last time.)
So now I can move on to the other projects. I might actually start with reupholstery that bench. It should be a quick and easy project to get me started. And then I’ll move on to the draperies. But at this very moment, I feel like I need a nap. This grasscloth wallpaper project was much bigger and more time-consuming than I had anticipated, and I’m feeling pretty exhausted. I didn’t finish with the wallpaper and with clearing out all the mess from the room until 10:30 last night. And even then, you probably noticed that I still didn’t have time to actually vacuum and clean the floor in the foyer. I have a few spots of drywall mud that need to be cleaned off of the floor.
But for now, I need rest. And I may just lie down on the area rug in the bedroom so that I can admire the gorgeous grasscloth. I’m so excited about how it turned out!! It really did far exceed my expectations.
And by the way, I do intend to write a post with all of the tips and tricks that I learned while installing grasscloth. I was pretty intimidated by the project before I got started, but as I went along, I realized that it’s really not that difficult. I found it to be maybe just a little bit more challenging than installing standard wallpaper, but really, it’s not much different. So if you’ve been wanting to install grasscloth and feel intimidated by it, you shouldn’t, especially if you’ve installed wallpaper before. But I’ll have that post coming soon. I was way too tired to include that today, though. I really do need a nap. 😀

Kristi, you have definitely earned that nap, take Felicity with you, she will help. I cannot stop looking at your suite. I love it, it’s gorgeous with a capital “G”. What an incredible space to call it a day in. Take your well-earned “Victory Nap” and bask in this glorious space.
Cheers to you, Matt, and the Fur Inspectors, or Queen Felicity as she is probably known at your house.
I see the vision. It’s looking great! Bravo, Kristi!
Well done! It’s amazing and all those corners and doors….. rest up! and thanks in advance for sharing all your tips and tricks… it inspires a landing and hallways that will need something inspiring like this!
The only question I have is….how much grasscloth is left? You said it would be close! 😃 The room is going to be so beautiful when finished.
I have FOUR pieces left over!! I was so shocked! I was so sure that I’d make a mistake on a couple and have to redo them with new pieces, but I didn’t have to do that with even one piece. So I’m going to hold onto them and keep them safe just in case a piece gets messed up and needs to be replaced.
Be sure the extra grasscloth is covered well to block out any light, or it could develop a stripe of fade from the light! I would get a cardboard mailing tube to store it!
That was my question too!!
Well done, you! It’s so stunning. Your hard work and persistence have paid off.
Beautiful. Teal is one of my favorite colors.
Suggestion – install the router in the closet on top of a cabinet where it will be hidden but accessible.
I’m planning to put it in the storage closet (i.e., the bathroom) as soon as I can work on that room. I know it’s very distracting right now, but it’ll be hidden eventually.
I couldn’t remember where you were planning it to go. Thx!
It is SPECTACULAR! I love grasscloth wallpaper. And the color is perfect.
Congratulations! I just love looking past the grasscloth and seeing into your walk-in closet — the interior blue complements the grasscloth color so well!
It will be exciting to see the bench reupholstered with the green patterned fabric to tie to the dresser.
Finally, I recall when you were deliberating which rug to choose and I am still very happy that you picked the one you did; if there is such a thing as a “muted bright” this rug reads that way and the coral color is just up my alley.
Well done, you deserve your rest!
I wouldn’t have thought of painting the bench legs to coordinate with the chest of drawers. Looking forward to seeing it!
Really, really beautiful!
Definitely take some time today to rest and enjoy. If you rush from project to project and don’t take time to reflect and rest, you’ve lost half the joy! You’ve done a beautiful job choosing and installing that elegant paper.
Very first of all, I cannot believe the difference between no curtains in the closet and curtains in the closet…it elevated the closet to another level. I will have to rethink how I feel about curtains…I was not a big fan and now I am! In the days gone by I used to have curtains, but I only put them in my home for blackout purposes or privacy, or because I had a sliding door. Now, I see how they elevate a space. With all that being said, I like all the curtains you’ve put in your condo and now your home. Now on to today’s post, I have hung grass cloth, cork and just normal everyday wallpaper. Cork was the hardest, but much like grass cloth it will never be precise with matching pattern and that is what I love about it! The wallpaper in your room gives it depth and character. Great job and I do hope you take that much deserved nap.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Beyond beautiful! You encourage me to get busy with a few of my own projects. Your talent and courage to just go for it is contagious. Love seeing your pictures. Enjoy your nap!
Absolutely stunning work!
Wow! You really see the fabulous SUITE aspect now with all of the walls a consistent finish. And your fabric and finishing choices!! I always think in the beginning…how is she going to pull this all together..and then like magic you make it beautiful!
Amazing and gorgeous!
Thank you for sharing.
Question about the ceiling spots that need attention:
Will you seal the spot in the b/r like you did in the foyer?
Question about the breaker box cover: will it be covered in grasscloth or will it be something else like a picture frame or mirror?
Your solutions are inspiring and help me solve stuff around home!
The one in the bedroom will remain the attic access, but I’ll be finishing it out soon. It’ll still be noticeable, but it won’t be nearly so noticeable as having a big dark hole in the ceiling.
I had originally planned to cover the breaker box cover in grasscloth, but I changed my mind. I’ll be painting it to match the grasscloth (as soon as I can find the right color spray paint), but it will be hidden behind artwork.
You deserve a restful weekend.
Room is gorgeous
So glad you finished and can have a nap!!! Although grasscloth is not my fave wall covering, I’m glad that you are happy with it, and it does add a lot to a room! Much better than just paint. I do wonder if you could have avoided the patches of grasscloth in the doorway to the closet if you had finished the opening like the other ones that have doors – as the one to the bathroom or music room. I think it needs the white wood framework, just without a door. The edges could be trimmed out with a narrow trim if needed, but I can see it without any trim also.
I agree with Marianne about trimming out the closet doorway. It appears unfinished. Doesn’t need a door, just white trim. The rest of this project is lovely, and I can’t wait to see it completed. I was disappointed not to see the bird fabric on the bed headboard, and I had hoped to see it as accents, such as lampshades, and a bolster pillow in the chair. It’s all good.
So beautiful! I love grass cloth, your rooms look so rich. Your vision, your labor, result in lovely spaces. Please rest and just curl up in the midst of this huge accomplishment and have a renewing nap. God bless you and Matt.
When the sun shines on the wallpaper, I’m able to see the teal really well, yay! I can’t say that for your closet though as it looks like a blue-gray color. How many feet did you gain by removing the wall from the master bedroom closet? Love that. Also, knowing that you’ll have to vacuum the wallpaper occasionally, that’s when you can vacuum your curtains. Will you be getting a new light for your bedroom also?
I gained three feet by removing the closet. So now, the room is close to 15′ square.
I’m going to stick with the ceiling fan. I know it’s not pretty, but we’re in Texas, and ceiling fans in bedrooms in Texas are a must (for me). I like the way this one looks as far as the design, but I don’t love that it’s silver. I might paint it. But the decorative lighting will have to be table lamps, floor lamp, etc.
They have beautiful light fixtures now that have fans that are hidden when not in use, perhaps you could find one that strikes your fancy!
I’ve looked at so many of those, and have never found one that I like. I’m still open to the possibility if I can find one I like.
Absolutely gorgeous, as I knew it would be. 🙂 That green dresser is probably my favorite accent in the room. Just beautiful, Kristi!
Looks great! I think you did a fantastic job.🩷🩷 Can’t wait to see your progress begin…after you rest up a bit! Love from OK!
The room looks great! Wanted to let you know that your website is coming up completely wonky for me–oversized, huge Facebook, etc logos, slow to load. Not sure what’s up.
I gained three feet by removing the closet. So now, the room is close to 15′ square.
Wow, wow, wow, it looks absolutely gorgeous!! Just a thought, do you have enough wallpaper left to put on your electric box cover?
I do, but I probably won’t do that. At least not yet. When the electrician was here the last time, he told me that the city inspectors failed an inspection because they didn’t have the right screws holding the cover on. If they’re that picky about things, I don’t want to do anything that would cause problems until I know that I won’t need city inspectors in my house anymore. That won’t be until after the workshop and the addition are done.
Absolutely beautiful!
It is beautiful!!
I could not type as many ohhs and ahhs as I was uttering while scrolling through this beautiful area. Krist, I know you are tired, but girl, get that nap, then get your favorite meal and drink to celebrate. It won’t be long with the way you go; you will have this finished by Christmas, is my bet. I am so happy for you. Blessings to your household. Oh, I hope you gave the fur baby a treat for that final inspection.
*sigh* So utterly gorgeous!! Well worth the work. I can’t believe how much richer it looks than with just the painted teal walls. Now go take a nap!
Kristi, as usual you knocked it out of the park! Just gorgeous. Everything…that wallpaper/and color, the floor, the paint color for the dresser, the foyer light…just everything. You must be so pleased.
It looks absolutely beautiful. I really like the lighter floors with it, too. I think that is what makes it pop better. It looks really nice!
Of course it’s gorgeous! And the green looks exactly right, too.
Go take your Victory Nap! In fact, I could take one for you.
Oh my gosh! The grasscloth is over-the-top gorgeous, and the whole suite is so beautiful already. Take that nap, and when you are ready, we’ll be here to cheer you on for the next part. So exciting!
WOW!!! The walls look absolutely stunning with the grasscloth wallpaper. You have yet again totally impressed us all with your incredible skills Kristi. Your bedroom suite is already looking so beautiful. Awesome job!!!
Love it. Well done!
Looks GREAT. I’ve hung my share of wallpaper and have been considering just one wall of grasscloth in my bedroom. I’ve never hung grasscloth, so I’m looking forward to your tips.
Again, great job!!!!
The bedroom suite is looking so good! You did a professional job on the grasscloth, and it adds a depth to the room that paint just can’t do. How will you finish the ceiling repair without getting sheetrock dust all over the grasscloth? I’ve heard that there is a method that uses a damp sponge to smooth out the mud before painting. Do you know anything about that? I notice that Miss Felicity is enjoying the new wallpaper too!
I plan to use a wet sponge. It doesn’t work quite as well as sandpaper, but I just don’t have it in me to make more dust. Even if the grasscloth weren’t already up, I still wouldn’t want to make more dust. I’ve done the wet sponge (or wet rag) method before, and it works really well.
The whole area looks so elegant. Makes me want to do things in my whole house.
Absolutely stunning – as we knew it would be!
WE THE PEOPLE … WOULD LIKE TO VOTE! 😉
This may never be removed or changed – lol.
Well done darling and thanks for taking us along
for the ride. Love how it’s coming together. Cx
When you try to lighten that strip, you might also try to lighten the middle portion in the bedroom. It wouldn’t hurt to try. If it works, it
would be more the same color all over. Actually, I think it looks really good. I know you are glad to be done with that. Soon you will be
sleeping in your own bed in your own bedroom.
Have a good week.
