Studio Bathroom Progress — New Ceiling Light & Painted Vanity
Yesterday, I deleted one item off of my bathroom “to do” list and checked off two others. I decided to keep the ceiling white, so I went ahead and installed the new ceiling light and then I got the vanity painted.
First up, you’ll remember that I had been considering painting the ceiling in this bathroom pink. I did a couple of mockups of that when I only had two of the three rows of wall stripes painted.

The main reason I wanted a pink ceiling is because…well, I love color, and I especially love pink. But also, I thought that having the ceiling painted in a color like pink would make the new white ceiling light stand out more.
But then when I got the stripes all finished, I really loved how the walls looked surrounded by all white. Like I said yesterday, it almost gave the feeling that the walls were the artwork and the white surrounding the walls on the ceiling and trim at the top and the wainscoting at the bottom (which will be all white) created the “frame” for the artwork. I thought a pink ceiling might look like an afterthought and compete with the walls for attention.

So in the end, I stuck with the white ceiling. And that meant that I could go ahead and install this cute new ceiling light. This is the light that I bought (affiliate link), and I love it so much! I thought it was cute when I got it out of the box, but I loved it so much more once it was actually installed on the ceiling! And I really like the look of the white fixture against the white backdrop of the ceiling.

I wish I would have gotten a picture of it yesterday with the light off during the brightest part of the day. I took the picture above early this morning, and the sun doesn’t shine into this bathroom until the afternoon hours. I’ll make a point of getting better pictures once this bathroom is finished. But anyway, here’s a look at the fixture with the light turned on.

Again, that’s an early morning picture just as the sun was coming up, so the lighting isn’t great. But isn’t that a cute light? Of course I love it! It looks like a flower! 😀
But now for the decision we’ve all been waiting for me to make. What color did I decide on for the vanity? I really went back and forth on this. One moment, I would be 100% certain that I wanted green. The next moment, I’d start thinking that eggplant would be better to ground that wall design. I had both paint color on hand, and the paint color decision really was up in the air until the moment I picked up my paint brush and headed into the studio to paint the vanity. And at that moment, I grabbed the green.

Specifically, I went with this green from the wall stripes. This is Sherwin Williams Broccoflower.

Choosing the right green made all the difference in the world. Seeing that previous green, which was just slightly darker than the back entry wall color, against the striped walls almost soured me on the idea of having a green vanity altogether. That color was just too washed out and dull.

So using the right green really made a huge difference. And in the end, I think green was the right choice for me. I kept going back to a comment from one person who said a green vanity would make the room look like a garden, and the colorful stripes are like the flowers in the garden. That’s the comment that sealed the deal and made me stick with the green.
Here’s a look at the vanity color with a peek of the back entry walls. You can see that they’re different greens, but I think the look nice together. And I’m actually glad that the back entry walls and the vanity aren’t the same color. I like the variation.

Obviously, I’ll get better pictures of the whole area once I get everything cleaned up. And you can see that I have a whole lot of cleaning (and probably some paint touchups) to do on the floor. When I was painting the stripes on the walls, I spilled some paint on the floor. I’ve been absolutely amazed at how durable this floor paint is, and I’ve been able to get paint off of the floor in the past with a Magic Eraser. So my paint spill in here will really put it to the test. We’ll see if I’m able to scrub that off of the floor, or if I’ll have to add another coat of paint to the floor to cover it up.
Anyway, I’m pretty excited about the progress. Next up is the wainscoting. I can’t wait to see all of that brown wood trim painted in a clean white finish.

Love the vanity color n white ceiling.
I love the light fixture and how it appears to be glowing with the light on. I think the smaller, narrower fixture you had posted yesterday is a better choice than the original fixture for over the mirror. I like the white ceiling. It balances the white wainscotting and puts the focus on the stripes. I had been thinking a pink ceiling would make the wainscotting appear to have only been primed and not painted. Maybe that seems like a weird thought.
Love it!!
I didn’t see your vision, but you know what you’re doing! I love it
I love watching your process, even though I usually don’t love your color choices. Which is fine! I don’t mean that to be critical, as we are all just different. That said, I actually love the stripes, especially now with the white framing around them. This might be my favorite room I’ve seen you do, colors and all!
I love the stripes and the light fixture!
I kept hoping you’d make some of those tiles, like you did in the pantry but using some of the colors in the stripes. I envisioned them between the trim behind the sink. Tiles to protect from water splashing up is a good choice, but I don’t know what you plan to do in that area.
I do remember that they were a lot of work, but possibly think about it down the road.
For some reason I envision some “sparkly type gold glitter” on that light. Just a light touch. I think that would be a glorious surprise as you flipped that light switch on. This coming from a gal who loves sparkly things ☺️ Everything is looking beautiful. You never disappoint!
Love, love, love that flower light fixture! The white ceiling was the better choice.
I was hoping that eggplant would win for the vanity. if you’re happy, that what counts.
Nag, nag, nag: I know it is not your custom to protect surfaces before your enthusiasm overrides taking the time to cover horizontal areas, but doing that would prevent so much effort to clean up inevitable spills. Observation, not judgment.
We all work differently, I know, but it puzzles me.
It looks so AMAZING!!! What a great bathroom. I love the white ceiling and that light fixture is too cute. I agree with the green on the vanity, and it really does look like a lovely garden.
Cheers to you, Matt and the Fur Inspection Team!
I really think that is wonderful! Love that you are letting the walls take center stage, and painting the ceiling white. The light fixture is perfect, too!
What a FUN bathroom. I love all the color and that green cabinet is fantastic. Love the idea of a pink ceiling, too. You did good!~ Diana
I wondered what the trim might look like in gold. Its a small batheoom tho so might be too much. Lookin very pretty in there. That light is way prettier hanging up. I love it.
Looks awesome! Love that light!
