The Studio Bathroom Punch List
Now that I have the bulk of the wall design finished in the studio bathroom, I think the rest of this project will go pretty quickly and smoothly. Since I don’t have time to do any actual work on Wednesdays, I did take some time last night to assess where I am in this project, and to make a list of what still needs to be done to finish up. I think the bulk of these things on my to do list can get done by the end of the weekend.
One of the most obvious things I still need to finish is the wainscoting. Thankfully, most of it is already painted, so it just needs to be dusted off and cleaned. But I still need to caulk, prime, and paint the new trim that I added around the room. I also need to figure out how to finish the outlet. I have a plan, so hopefully, it’ll work out.

And then the whole fourth wall still needs to be finished. I was able to do the stripes on the upper and middle rows on this portion of the wall, although I still have a few to finish up.

But I ran into some problems on the bottom row. For some reason, the primer on this area formed some bubble-like areas that weren’t smooth (which would have shown when painted) and flaked off really easily. I have no idea what would have caused this. I’ve never had primer do this before. So I peeled off the loose parts, and now I have to repair those before I can finish those stripes. It’s a bit of a pain, but it should be an easy fix. And then my light switches need a switch plate. I’m still undecided on the switch plate. Should I just use white, or should I use a paintable switch plate and match it to the wall design? I’ll probably do the latter.

But this area of the wall is going to be my biggest challenge. There’s just no way to get this wallpaper off of the walls without it peeling off not only the primer underneath, but also peeling off some of the drywall mud that I had applied to smooth out the imperfections on this wall. *Sigh* It’s so frustrating that I’m going to have to start all over with drywall mud once I get this wallpaper off. And since I had wrapped the wallpaper around the corner a couple of inches, that whole corner is a mess and needs some attention before I can finish out the stripes to the corner.

I also need to figure out the light situation. Since this is such a tiny bathroom, you can see how close the two lights are to each other.

Again, this is the ceiling light that I bought to replace that very plain round light. This light is 12 inches high.

And then I had intended to simply use gold spray paint on the wall light that I already have and reinstall it.

But with the two lights being so close together, I don’t know what I want such a big, eye-catching light above the mirror to compete with my cute flower light on the ceiling. So now, I’m considering buying a more streamlined for the wall light. I’m envisioning something like this (affiiate link)…

I don’t know if you can envision those, but I think the simpler design of that wall light will go much better with the ceiling light that I’ve chosen.

I’m also still undecided on painting the ceiling. At this very moment, I’m leaning towards leaving it white because I just love how the stripes look with the white above and the white (wainscoting) below. I like the idea of keeping all of the color contained within that area, almost like a frame on a painting. But I also might make a last-minute decision to paint it pink. 😀
But that decision will also depend on how the vanity looks once I get it painted. I’m still in the “green” camp on the vanity, but it definitely won’t be the green that I tested on it. That green is way too muted to ground that colorful wall design.

In addition to all of those things, I need to:
- Hang the mirror,
- Add the apron trim to the window and get that caulked and painted,
- Clean the floor and possibly touch up the paint,
- Install the new faucet, and
- Replace the knobs and pulls on the vanity,
- Buy and install a new toilet paper holder and hand towel ring, and
- Make or buy a piece of artwork for the wall above the toilet.
I’m always amazed at the amount of work that goes into tiny rooms. It doesn’t really matter how small the room is, it still needs all of the same number of basic steps that a bigger room needs. Thankfully, since the room is tiny, the time to finish each step is less than it would take in a much larger bathroom. So I think I can get a whole lot of these things checked off of the list over the next four days, and then hopefully, I can get this bathroom finished up next week. We’ll see how it goes!

I vote to keep the ceiling white!
If there is any any any chance you’d be willing to turn the gfci outlet horizontal between the 2 new pieces of trim (b/c you are already doing extra drywall work), it would be so perfect there!
The bathroom is so beautiful.
I’m probably too late, but wanted to suggest for that last wall, that you use wallpaper liner to cover the stuff that won’t come down. It goes on just like wallpaper, and you can paint it once it’s dry. It will save you all the labor of skim coating and sanding. I LOVE the light you found for over the sink! Have you checked into the light bulbs though? I wonder if they would be hard to find or not. I also wonder if they would work for my bathroom, as I’m not thrilled with what we have. (Never have been happy with them!) Have fun painting the trim work! I would have done that before adding it, and I would have waited to put it in after the stripes were done.
Love the linear light for over the vanity. Time for mock ups of the vanity with the different colors used in the new painted walls.
I agree the white ceiling makes the walls pop.
