Studio Bathroom Progress (Things Are A Bit Messy Right Now)

But I’m finally at this stage where I have all of the 10 main colors plus about 3 of the mixed colors painted on the top and bottom rows, and now I have something close to every other color taped off.

The good news is that I’ve learned that the paint doesn’t actually require 24 hours to dry before I put the painters tape on top of it. I’m using tape for delicate surfaces, and it seems to do well as long as I give the paint a few hours to completely dry. I’ve only tried putting the tape on top of one of the colors after giving it just a few hours to dry, but I didn’t have any of the paint peel off when I removed the paint.

So if that holds true throughout, I can get these stripes painted this morning, leave them to dry for a few hours, and then come back this evening and tape off the rest and get those painted. My goal is to have all of these two rows painted by the time I go to bed tonight.

If I can actually do that and not get distracted (and I’ll admit, I’ve been very distracted this week), there’s a possibility that I can get all of the second row painted tomorrow, although I’m anticipating that I may have some touchups to do.

That doesn’t mean that the walls will be completely finished this weekend, though. I still have this portion of this one wall to deal with.

Someone asked me, “Wouldn’t it be better to fix that wall before you start painting?” And the answer, of course, is yes. But when have y’all ever known me to do projects in an order that actually makes sense. 😀 After my wallpaper catastrophe, I was really needing a pick-me-up, and I needed to see some color on these walls. It’s the fun stuff that keeps me going, so I very often do things in an order that doesn’t make sense to anyone but me. And yet, somehow, things always seem to work out just fine in the end.

The thing that’s driving me right now is that I want to get the mirror on the wall by the end of the weekend. I love this mirror, and I think seeing this on the bathroom wall, against those colorful stripes, will be a huge reward at the end of such a tedious project.

I really love this mirror. The frame is perfect, and I think it’ll look so nice against the stripes. It’s about an inch in depth, so it stands out without having a really heavy look to it like one of the other mirrors I considered.

I’m also very anxious to get this cute little ceiling light installed. I’m very pleased with this light. The material is a thick plastic, so I think it will hold up very well, especially since this is just a half bathroom. It won’t have to hold up against a lot of steam coming from a shower.

I really wanted to install it as soon as it arrived, but I’m holding off until the walls are done because I’m still undecided on painting the ceiling a color other than white.

At this point, without seeing the actual finished stripes on the walls, it’s hard to make a decision about the ceiling. I really need to see those stripes finished before I make a final decision on that, but in my mind, I can see a pink on the ceiling. I really need to get the whole vanity painted as well so that I can see the whole thing — vanity and walls — to see if a painted ceiling will be the icing on the cake, or if a painted ceiling would be way over the top.

So that’s the progress! I’m going to do my best to stay focused on this bathroom this weekend, and we’ll see just how far I can get.
